Fab Freebie: Deco-rating Help
***This giveaway is no longer accepting entries – look below to see who won!***
The winner of the $300 gift card toward the MyDeco Boutique as selected by random.org is… Beth-BTW (who uses virtual mood boards sometimes, but usually flies by the seat of her pants when it comes to decor planning). Congrats!
This week’s prize comes from mydeco.com, a site that helps you design a space you’ll love in many ways. For starters, they catalog products from hundreds of retailers in one search-able spot. But they go above and beyond too: allowing you to create mood boards, collect your favorite items in online folders, and even virtually decorate your home in 3D using thousands of finishes and materials. Oh, and most importantly this week, they’re helping one of you with $300 (!!) to spend in the mydeco boutique – a hand-picked collection of designer items, like these below:
- PRIZE: A $300 gift card toward the MyDeco Boutique
- TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “THAT’S MY DECO!” and…
- BONUS QUESTION: … share what techniques you use when planning to decorate a space. Do you rely on some of these tools like mood boards, inspiration folders, or virtual room planners? Or do you fly by the seat of your pants a bit more? (Oh, and we’d love to know what you might spend that $300 on if you were to win too!)
- GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, March 9th at 8pm EST
- NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
- PRIZE SHIPS: The United States
- USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday morning for the announcement of our winners. Good luck…
Note: We weren’t paid or perk’d for hosting this giveaway, we just like rewarding our lovely readers! See our Giveaway FAQs page for more info. Pics from mydeco.com.

“THAT’S MY DECO!” I usually pick a color that I really like (I always try to go bold for shock value) and work around that. Right now I am in love with a turquoise blue with an orange sofa and dark wood shelves!
That’s my Deco!
I have a bunch of inspiration folders saved on my desktop, which is my favorite way to work on decorating. I also love amazon wish lists to keep track of online products that I love, but can’t buy right now.
That’s my deco!!
THAT’S MY DECO!
Since we are both students and rather poor, my husband and I usually use a combination of my random inspiration from blogs plus what we can find on craigslist, or inherit from family or find in the trash room after people in our building move out! Craigslist is key though ;)
THAT’S MY DECO!
THAT’S MY DECO! I shuck everything I like into a bookmark folder and then start sorting once I decide what direction I’m headed.
THAT’S MY DECO
That’s my deco!
Unfortunately apartment living has stifled my decorating.
But if I had a method, I’d start with a few key pieces which “speak” to me. And let them tell me how to finish the space :)
That’s My Deco!
I usually buy a couple of basic/key items then search the internet endlessly for accessories and decorative items.
THAT’S MY DECO! I use the “drag my husband to every possible store unti we can no longer walk” technique. Oh, and sometimes I use the art.com app for selecting art for my walls to measure how they’ll fit in the space.
That’s my deco! I like to rip out pictures from magazines or print them off of my favorite websites to get an idea and go from there.
We are moving soon so I would love to get some new lighting and throw pillows for our new place!
THAT’S MY DECO!
that’s my deco. i like to build my own furniture. i take designs i find online and tweak them to fit my small home. i love custom pieces.
THAT”S MY DECO!!!!
I’m a very “fly by the seat of my pants” kinda gal when it comes to decorating!
“THAT’S MY DECO!”
That’s my deco!
I usually fly by the seat of my pants, but I think that leads to a disjointed look. I’d like to work on making a plan so that is my goal for our next redecoration project-to create a mood board and see if that leads to more cohesiveness.
That’s my deco! I tend to try to find one piece or element of the room to inspire me!
THAT’S MY DECO!
When it comes to decorating, I usually fly by the seat of my pants!
THAT’S MY DECO!
i kind of wing it when i decorate, but i do it item by item. so i’ll add something, then envision the next piece i want to add, and so on.
i’m moving in a month and i have big plans to decorate the master bedroom! our duvet cover is a cool, relaxing aqua, and i am imagining pops of sunshine yellow around the room to brighten it up! i would use the $ for some fun yellow items!
THAT is most certainly MY DECO!
I am currently obsessed with owls and want a little ceramic owl for my den. I love that this allows you to sort by price! What a great website, thanks for sharing with us.

THAT’S MY DECO!
I’m an inspiration folder kind of gal – though my folders are mostly electronic and filled with images from the many incredible blogs I follow.
I am loving the Anchors cotton pillow!
That’s my deco! For inspiration we like to look to nature. We use a lot of neutral colors in our little place and LOTS of photos from places we’ve been and family. We don’t plan a lot of the stuff we have now since we have such a small space (and renting), so I’m loving the storage options from mydeco!
THAT’S MY DECO!
I like to put together inspiration rooms on photoshop – I simply don’t like to make decisions before doing so :)
THAT’S MY DECO!
I’m a big copy cat. I just find rooms I like and try my best to recreate in my space. :)
Lighting, lighting, lighting. I have great daylight. But my house really lacks good lighting at night.
THAT’S MY DECO!
I like a color scheme. It’s usually one small item that sets up the rest of the room’s theme for me!
THAT’S MY DECO!
I’ve always been a fly-by-the-seat-of-my-pants type of person, but I certainly wouldn’t say no to other methods. I’ll have to check out their tools and see what I can get out of them!
That’s my deco! I troll Craigslist for inspiration…and I read this blog :)
THAT’S MY DECO! I totally fly by the seat of my pants, it probably takes me longer to actually get a finished product, but I am always satisfied with the end result. And once I see something in a magazine that I like the room gets redecorated again to make it look like the magazine but with my stuff!
That’s my deco! I like to make old things new again with fabric/paint/etc.
THAT”S MY DECO!
I usually pick up weird or old things along my journey and then once I have the room to start decorating the color theme evolves from what I have and I embellish from there. I have a rug that sort of matches my old 1930′s Victorian type couch and between the two it makes for really awesome curtains and pillows and stuff.
That’s my deco!
I get my inspiration from blogs and HGTV – and whatever is at TJ Maxx, Marshall’s, etc.
THAT’S MY DECO!
Pretty much just wing it – and add new pieces as the budget allows!
That’s my deco! i love bold bright colors with neutral furniture and fun accents. i also have a small animal figurine problem. i paint them silver. it’s an army…
That’s my Deco! Internet, magazines and BLOGS!!!! Looking for some flooring options and organizational materials!
Thank you, Teresa T.
THAT’S MY DECO! I like finding a certain color or item and then developing the room from there… kind of the same route you have taken with the colorful napkin inspiring the rest of your home!
that’s my deco! I read a lot of design blogs and magazines and then I fly by the seat of my pants. I have an overall vision and then I just go from there. I am not sure what I would spend the money on–either storage ottomans for my family room or new bedding for my bedroom or big girl bedding for my toddler or a rug or…
That’s my DECO!
I use pictures, colors and the web! :) I need to finish decorating our “living room/most busy area of our apartment” since is in much need of love, we have high ceilings and we can’t decide how to populate them lol
THAT’S MY DECO!
I fly by the seat of my pants, but our current place reflects that. I’m looking forward to having a more cohesive design for our new house!
THAT’S MY DECO – I sort of fly by the seat of my pants, but I also use virtual mood boards and some hard-copy photos to direct purchases.
THATS MY DECO! I usually find one piece (pillow, curtain, plate, etc.) and base the whole room off of that.
That’s My Deco!!
I get inspiration from things I see online and create a type of moodboard.
That’s my deco!! I usually fly by the seat of my pants… with a little help from some inspirational blogs. :)
That’s My Deco!
When I’m designing a space, I usually start with something small. With my first child, to plan his nursery, it was a swatch of fabric (much like the inspiration of Sue the Napkin.) From that piece of fabric, his walls and artwork grew from there.
For our whole house renovation it’s more of a natural-materials vibe: wood, concrete counters, live plants, metal,… (not that our demolition reflects any of that!)
That’s my deco!
I usually fixate on something first, be it a color, furniture, or accent piece. Then I draw out the room and start putting pieces in until it all looks right…the end product may not look like my drawing…but it tends to get the general feeling through. ^.^
My husband and I really need new desk chairs, so that is probably what I’d look for first!
THAT’S MY DECO!
I really enjoy this site for ideas! Seriously! I call it comfy minimalism. :)
That’s my deco! I’m an inspiration image folder kind of gal. I collect and collect, then review. I usually start with a favorite piece I love in a room (ex: a painting) and build from there
“THAT’S MY DECO!”
I’m still figuring out my style, but write down what I like when I see it online, in store, or in a catalog.
If I won, it would probably go towards some end tables, lighting, or wall decor!
“THAT’S MY DECO!”
I am really bad at decorating I think! The resources I use are magazines and blogs and houses of people I know. I wish I knew my style….it’s a mix of eclectic, farmhouse-ish, slightly boho with a love for some things retro. In other words….I have no clue and totally suck at it! I would love to take a look at their site and if I won the money would surely use it for fun things like pillows and other linen type things.
THAT’S MY DECO! I’m a bit fly by the seat of my pants as well as a careful planner. I look at what we already have, use inspiration from all over the place, and then go from there. Sometimes I buy all sorts of things and return what doesn’t work. Other times I’ll wait until I find that perfect item. We’re in the early stages of the home buying process, so this would definitely help with the decorating budget!
That’s my deco! I usually start with one piece I love and build from there!
