Fab Freebie: Deco-rating Help
***This giveaway is no longer accepting entries – look below to see who won!***
The winner of the $300 gift card toward the MyDeco Boutique as selected by random.org is… Beth-BTW (who uses virtual mood boards sometimes, but usually flies by the seat of her pants when it comes to decor planning). Congrats!
This week’s prize comes from mydeco.com, a site that helps you design a space you’ll love in many ways. For starters, they catalog products from hundreds of retailers in one search-able spot. But they go above and beyond too: allowing you to create mood boards, collect your favorite items in online folders, and even virtually decorate your home in 3D using thousands of finishes and materials. Oh, and most importantly this week, they’re helping one of you with $300 (!!) to spend in the mydeco boutique – a hand-picked collection of designer items, like these below:
- PRIZE: A $300 gift card toward the MyDeco Boutique
- TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “THAT’S MY DECO!” and…
- BONUS QUESTION: … share what techniques you use when planning to decorate a space. Do you rely on some of these tools like mood boards, inspiration folders, or virtual room planners? Or do you fly by the seat of your pants a bit more? (Oh, and we’d love to know what you might spend that $300 on if you were to win too!)
- GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, March 9th at 8pm EST
- NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
- PRIZE SHIPS: The United States
- USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday morning for the announcement of our winners. Good luck…

THAT’S MY DECO!
I like looking at inspiring pictures to gather ideas.
THAT’S MY DECO!! I’m more of a fly by the seat of my pants sort of girl.
That’s my deco!! I’m all about stealing other’s tried and true ideas! Magazines, internet, restaurants, friends houses… the list goes on.
THAT’S MY DECO! I just scan photos on the internet..though that tends to get overwhelming and means I can never decide on anything.
That’s my deco! I don’t have a technique, when I get the urge to change things around I just do it!
That’s my deco!!!
I normally find a piece that speaks to me…like a pillow, with my ‘idea colors’ in it and I work from there. Amazing how one tiny swatch of fabric can transform a room!
That’s my deco!
I am new to this whole design thing. I am kind of the I think of something now I shall do it type of person. Like when I decided it would be a goo ide to paint a brown accent wall behind my couch in our den. My poor husband had no idea what he was coming home to. Now that we have a little girl on the way I am loving picking out fabrics and designs for her room. I have enver really been very fashionable when it came to clothes or decorating, but I feel like I am turning a corner and realizing I might have a few good dies in me. Now I want to redecorate our bathroom and our hallway. Who knows I might even redo the acent wall another color.
Fun!
THAT’S MY DECO!
I get most of my ideas from blogs online and in magazines. But when it comes to putting things into action, it’s usually a fly-by-the-seat-of-my-pants, depending on what I find in stores :)
My husband and I just moved into our first home over Christmas and we are in DESPeRATE need for bookshelves and lamps! Some of our rooms are so dark still.
THAT’S MY DECO! I am very anti-modern, I am very traditional. I love STUFF, not bare walls. So anything I like I buy and it all just flows together!
That’s my deco! I usually start with one inspiration piece, like a piece of vintage furniture, a set of curtains, or a piece of art, and build the room around it. I love that you used a napkin as a source of inspiration, because that’s something I would totally do! I would love to use this gift card towards something for my new office/studio.
That’s my deco! :)
I love to make lists; I also love the idea of mood boards, but I haven’t made any since I was an inspiration-board-making fiend while planning my wedding!
We’re hoping to conceive a baby this summer, so I’m sure that we’d try to find some great art or cool furniture to make our one-bedroom apartment doable for us and for our (maybe, possibly, hopefully) little one!
That’s my deco!
I just try to implement the visions that are in my head, and sometimes just “wing” it.
Hey, that’s my deco! I usually begin with a piece of furniture or art, or a general feeling that I want the room to evoke, and then I fly from there.
THAT’S MY DECO!
I usually store pictures of things that I love for inspiration, and then kind of make baby steps & wing it as I go…
That’s my deco!
I usually just wing it and try to focus on upgrades.
That’s my deco!
I have a whole inspiration folder on my desktop filled with photos of rooms and beautiful furniture, some of which I’ve found here!
That’s MY DECO!
I’m a total “fly by the seat of my pants” type of gal myself. It usually starts with one unique piece of furniture or inspirational item and evolves from there!
That’s my deco!
I usually just pick a color scheme and go from there…adding what I can find here and there.
That’s my deco! I usually comb through magazines, catalogs and blogs to find inspiration. Once in awhile I have a plan, but usually I gravitate towards design elements that “speak” to me, and complete a room over time. If I’m lucky enough to win, I’d definitely be using the prize to accessorize my living room! Curtains, throws, pillow, art…
That’s My Deco!!
THAT’S MY DECO!
My husband I are moving soon, and we could really use some of this stuff!
THAT’S MY DECO
I usually buy things slowly and cross my fingers…
That’s my deco!
I would get my little boy a poster for his room with his birth announcement! I love them!!
Irene
That’s My Deco!!
I always start with a color or two that I want to use in the room. Then I go from there. I have never been very strategic. I’d probably spend the $300 on some more small accents. We just don’t have enough, or the stuff we have is not really right for the space.
THAT’S MY DECO!
i usually create a tumblr with all my inspiration for a room – it’s an easy way to see how it all plays together. and, not really a tool, but my go-to tip (from house beautiful): pick the rug before you choose the wall color!
THAT’S MY DECO! I fly by the seat of my pants…but I am trying to plan more in advance!
THAT’S MY DECO!
I use the internet to find ideas and then fly by the seat of my pants.
That’s My Deco! I go with basic color inspiration, what color do I want the space to feel, then go from there.
that’s my deco! I like to plan everything out ahead of time using boards, pictues and cut outs. If I won, I’d buy lots of new accessories!
That’s my Deco!
I love the magazines, House Beautiful, BH&G, Domino (RIP), Martha Stewart, and Lucky…BUT mostly your blog! I also wing it a little bit :) Is it bad that I am re-using the design from my wedding as inspiration for our new place??
“THAT’S MY DECO!”
I can’t decide what to spend it on at this moment, I’ll just have to think about it when I get chosen tomorrow! :D
THATS MY DECO!! I usually save inspiration picks and then find one thing I am crazy about and use it for colors and style, but usually it changes often :-).
THAT’S MY DECO! I like the fly by the seat of my pants. I pick a color and go from there!
That’s my deco! I have my colour swatches with me and fly by that:)
That’s my deco!
I tend to draw it out on paper first, but in the end it seldom looks like what I had planned! This old house needs everything– but definitely a few lighting fixtures!
THAT’S MY DECO!
That’s my deco! I usually create a mini mood board, but wing it for a good chunk. I also tend to have one piece that a whole room will get created around. As for how I’d spend it, well I am moving in with my fiance this month, so there are several ‘updates’ to be made!
THAT’S MY DECO!
I have no clue when decorating.. it’s usually a hodge podge or randomness that I can find on sale!
I’m loving the bloom table runner and coasters, which would be perfect in the home we’re moving into in just 2 weeks!
That’s my DECO!!
THATS MY DECO!
and i’m too add to have a system :)
THAT”S MY DECO!! I using check our my favorite blogs for ideas. When I find one item I love it usually sets the tone for the rest of the room. If I won the giveaway I don’t think I could resist snatching up a beautiful throw pillow.
That’s my deco!
I usually use one piece as a center piece to work around even if it’s really small. Then I pull in complementing pieces, etc.
THAT’S MY DECO! I love to look through magazines for inspiration. I tear out the pages I love and stack them in my giant notebook! I would love to use the money to buy some new pillows!
“THAT’S MY DECO!” I am a fly by the seat of my pants and also try to use what I’ve learned from The Youngsters!
THAT’S MY DECO! is fabulous. Their mood boards are the best, I definitely use them for decor inspiration.
I’m in the market for new lighting for our place. Sconces, chandeliers, we need them all.
Thanks for the great giveaway!
THAT’S MY DECO! I keep an updated list at Pinterest of all the home-y things I love.
My mom’s moving into her first solo apartment (!) and I’d love to give her a head start for deco-rating. :)
THAT’S MY DECO
I usually try things out and if I like it great….. if not I rely on great blogs like yours to guide me another way.
If I win I will be purchasing some things for my home I have yet to decorate after being here almost a year.
That’s my deco! I’m a fly by the seat of my pants kind of girl. Thankfully so far it’s worked out well. I’d use the gift card to buy some accents for our freshly painted kitchen and some throw pillows for the living room.
Than’s my deco!
I fly by the seat of my pants. Like to look at lots of pictures, get ideas, vignettes, etc. then try it out using things I already have.
That’s my deco! I’m pretty much a fly-by-the-seat-of-my-pants type, with mixed success…
