This bathroom from Lonny…

… is now officially the inspiration for our hall bathroom.

You might not see it now, but the white tile on the walls of our bathroom is actually pretty visually similar to the beadboard in the Lonny bathroom above (although ours has a black border, so we’ll have to see how that goes). The crazy thing is that we posted this description about The Napkin (aka Sue Sylvester) and mentioned how the swatch on the bottom (Benjamin Moore’s Teal Ocean) might be something that we use in our hall bath. Then we saw the Lonny bathroom above and were totally.frickin.convinced. Bring it on.
The walls in the inspiration image are Calypso Blue by Benjamin Moore, but we’re still leaning towards our original choice of Benjamin Moore’s Teal Ocean (seen here in the bottom swatch on Sue The Napkin), which seems to read better in our room. When we tape it up on the wall in there it looks rich and dimensional, just like the wall in the bathroom above. For some reason Calypso Blue was almost reading navy in our space, which is why we definitely still subscribe to the “hold it up and see how it looks in your lighting situation” method (as opposed to the “see a room you like and blindly paint your room that color” approach).

Pics to come just as soon as we can tackle it. Until then we’ll be staring at this photo and drooling. Napkin please.

The house we purchased a year ago has a completely white main bathroom – they painted the tiles on the bottom half, and not sure if I can strip it to figure out what the original tile colour was or just leave it be and paint it again! I like the colour you’ve selected, but I’m worried about the effect on lighting in the bathroom (where you need it most). Any thoughts?
We figure it’s only paint so we’re gonna go for it! It’s a hall bath that we imagine our kids using (it’s where Clara takes baths) but we have a master bath and our guest room has a guest bath, so it’s not like it needs to have great light for make-up application or anything. At least until Clara’s 18 or something. Haha.

LOVE-LOVE-LOVE that inspiration picture. I cannot wait to see the finished product. And I just might steal that same pic for future inspiration. :)
I love the bathroom inspiration and the colors you chose. I don’t usually like dark colors for a small room but I think it’s going to look great with the white fixtures.
I saw this post and nearly died laughing because I’ve just finished redoing my downstairs guest bath in teal/white with pops of chocolate and lime. The colour is just so uplifting, especially here in the UK where dreary skies are the norm.
I’m sooo excited to see how your makeover comes out!!
To be honest the only thing I like about the inspiration room is the paint colour. I’m not a fan of the “gallary” art at all.
I really hope you swing it better than Loppy has.
Oops, I mean Lonny …
I just love that corner sink!:) Excited to see the finished product:)
I’ve been dying to paint our dining room that color. Can’t wait to see how it turns out!!
Could you remove just the black border tiles? Then add a deep picture-ledge moulding like in the inspiration photo? Maybe fit it over the top?
It might be a pain, but you’d gain display/storage space without heavy furnishings.
That’s definitely one approach! Who knows where we’ll end up…

Our bathroom has the exact same tiles on the walls and floor! We ended up painting it white (you can see it on my new blog if you’re interested!) because I wanted to go bold with the fixtures and art, but I love love love the turquoise look!
Did you have to replace any of the floor tiles? Around the heating grate in ours, there are a few tiles missing and I’ve been having trouble finding a source for the rectangular white ones and little square black ones.
Our floor is luckily in great shape, but we’ve seen black & white basketweave tile like it at Home Depot and at places like The Tile Shop. Hope it helps!

I’m obsessed with this color and cant wait to see it!! <3
I love my teal mosaic by behr bathroom – good luck!!
Oh, I got so excited when I saw the inspiration pic that I was desperately hoping there would already be an “After” shot of your bathroom following. I can’t wait to see the finished product!!!
Sherry, you just rocked my world posting this!! I walked into our hallway bathroom yesterday and pondered to myself what a corner sink would look like….while I know you didn’t really read my mind I’m sooooo excited to see your colors in action…..I’ll be looking for a corner sink cabinet myself!!
Now that, my friends, is one swell bathroom.
I painted (part of) my kitchen a similar color and love the result! I feel happy every time I walk in the kitchen now. :) Can’t wait to see what you guys do with the bathroom!
Yes! Go bold! We went bold greenish teal in our masterbath, and it is such a fun >pop< to have against our soft gray bedroom walls. we always get a nice "ooo" and "ahhh" from people that have seen it! Excited for you!
Oooh I can’t wait to see your take on this room!! :)
Love the inspiration look, however the dark blue is truly very dark. But I love your color swatches. More on the brighter side :) Cant wait for the transformation!
Man, I totally agree about the importance of looking at paint in real life, under actual lights. I’ve been buying a slew of Benjamin Moore samples, only to get them home and see how different they look under my hallway lights. In particular, the pale dusty golds I’ve been eyeing have a noticeble greenish tinge under my lights, sort of a (dare I say it?) mucous color!! LOL. So, hooboy, back to the drawing board.
On another note: do you two know your blog is far and away leading the pack in people’s votes for Favorite Home Design Blog on ApartmentTherapy? You can see the results to date here :) >>>

I am so in love with that bathroom! It is now also officially my inspiration for my family room. The blue (THAT blue!) and the white is so crisp. LOVE!
Oh that color! I can’t stand it, I love it so much. Really, really good choice, Guys. And the painting on the left wall is to die for too — the ocean scene. (I’ve ogled over it many a time on the Lonny site.) Do you think you’ll add a an antique/vintagey gallery wall look to the bathroom too?
We’re definitely feeling inspired by the gallery effect along with the wall color and the window treatment. It’ll be fun to see where we end up!

Okay, would you kinda want to take a stab at how to deal with a bathroom (ours) that looks like yours, but with pink tile where your white tile is. Not exactly great, except for valentines day. Yes, of course “someday” I will RIM (RedoItMyself, I crack myself up, you know you smile Sherry!) but for now, how do I play down that bubble gum pinkness??
You could probably get it all professionally reglazed to look white for around $150 bucks. Then it would match anything and you could have a lot more freedom! That’s probably what we’d do, but some people love pink and embrace it by accenting it with chocolate and cream (think neopolitan ice cream- haha) so that’s cute too!

The wall color in the inspiration picture is closer to navy than the last swatch, and definitely closer to the second swatch on the napkin than the last. I think you should go a little darker – I made the same mistake between two blues and chose the lighter one thinking it would produce a different effect in my room, and I was so wrong. blues are tricky.
Hey Maria,
Every monitor reads differently and those chips certainly look different on the bathroom wall (in that lighting and on that plane) than they do on the napkin. Not to worry!

this is really funny, but do y’all “know” (not for real, but through the web) Lauren Liess from Pure Style Home? She’s a pretty well known blogger and interior designer, here in Virginia. She just posted on her blog the other day about a VERY SIMILAR seascape that she’s planning to “get rid of” because although she likes it, she’s changing the style of that part of the house. I think she said she got it at a flea market. If you look on her site, she has it downstairs in her “den” area. It looks uncannily like the one by the sink in the Lonny mag pic. It would be kinda fun if y’all were able to buy/barter it from her or something!
That’s too funny! We’ll have to check out her blog- I don’t know how we haven’t heard of her, but it sounds like fun!

I totally swooned over that corner sink and bathroom when the issue launched! Great inspiration!
Awesome inspiration photo! I love the unexpected pop of red from the flowers against the Calypso Blue walls. Yummy!
I love that sink! Do you know where to get it?

Sadly we have no idea. Lonny is fancy so it might be a custom job…

Ok, so I was watching a re-run of Modern Family patiently awaiting the new episode of Cougar Town (!!) and it was a scene at Cam and Mitchell’s house with their daughter Lily in their bathroom. It was a total OMG moment! Their bathroom essentially has THIS design color scheme (color on the walls were a turquoise-y blue) AND (get ready for it!) the SAME white tiling with the top black tiling as yours! It looked fantastic! Just thought I’d share so maybe you can catch the episode online at abc.com and take a look for yourselves. (The episode is “Dance Dance Revelation”.) Enjoy!
WAHOO! That’s so exciting. Can’t wait to tackle it!

I particularly love the use of a ton of artwork that may not be usually found in a bathroom. Do you plan on dressing up the bathroom walls in a similar unexpected fashion?
We live the gallery frame look along with the window treatment. It’ll be interesting to see where we end up!

You can always glue beadboard onto the tile. No messy tile removal, and that great beadboard look.
OoOoh! Can’t wait to see it! PS~Olympic Zero VOC is on sale this week @ Lowe’s! xox!
Awesome tip! Thanks so much!

I found something similar to the light for $68 http://store.dejavujewelry.com/roy-rlpe10231cb.html
Did you know that you can get your tiles (and tub) reglazed? It really cleans them up and it’ll get rid of any color you despise. And its pretty cheap when you compare it to the cost of ripping out tile and putting in new tile.
Here is a link to photos of my bathroom. You can see it when from really ugly salmon to a nice crisp white in half a day.

Yes, we love reglazing! We had our tub reglazed at our last house and loved it! We’re thinking we’ll try to work with the black border before we jump to reglazing though- but it’s always nice to know it’s an option!

So glad you linked the inspiration to Lonny, I had never heard of it. Lately I’ve been spending my spare time searing for new ideas, and I love your blog! So glad to see others as obsessed with design and decor as I’ve become. No one around me seems to get why I can’t stop talking about curtains lately :)
Can’t wait to see the finished pics! I painted our bathroom a similar teal a few years ago and we get compliments on the color all the time. Plus it’s just a peppy happy color, totally works!
Um…. get out of my head! haha
I have been envisioning that exact paint scheme for my future craft room that I am working on!!! I am desperate for some board and batten in my house and I figured the craft room would be an excellent place to try it out since I want to use a darkish turquoise/teal on the upper half. I think that dark of a color over the entire wall would make the room feel too dark, but with the bright white bottom, OH SO LOVELY!!
Also, I painted a bookshelf YHL style the otherday, making the back of it dark teal. And I have to admit, I totally thought that you (Sherry) just had an awesomly steady hand for cutting in, but I picked up one of those little short handled paint brushes tha you brag on all the time and I was AMAZED!! Cutting in was SUPER easy!!
See?! I totally swear by that thing!

love, love, LOVE the teal. I’m considering it for our den, but can’t get the hubs to bite on that much teal. . .I’m thinking breezy white curtains, white glossy furniture and light wood with lighten it up. I’m a long time reader, first time commenter, you guys are so inspirational!
So, my SIL just found out she and her hubby are having a girl and we were discussing paint colors. Then it occurred to me. Caponata would look b.e.a.utiful in Clara’s room. Eggplant with pink and lime green, yes please! Just a thought…
Mmm, we love that color! Delicious.

Love everything about it..BUT WHERE CAN WE FIND THAT LIGHT!!!!
I’ve seen something similar on google or sites like nextag.com by searching “moravian star” I think!
