I’m Sensing A Theme…
We promised to share some of the things that we dropped into our Thanksgiving inspired “thanks jar” over the last month, which we finally got to read after a month of blindly writing without knowing what the other person was jotting down each day.
Here are a few highlights:
- For finally figuring out what the heck to do with this thrift store glass jar. – John
- That Clara’s birth was a miracle and she’s a healthy & happy little girl. -Sherry
- That we sold our house & found a new one that we love (fingers crossed for a smooth closing).- Sherry
- That Clara finds Burger as hilarious as we do. She just cracked up watching him.- John
- That John has an amazing family. I love my in-laws. – Sherry
- That when sick, Sherry’s far more fun to be around than I’d be. -John
- That Clara is in the 90th percentile for height. My tall girl! So proud. – Sherry
- For only having 1,500 sq ft of stuff to move and not 2,500 of it… this time. -John
- That this time six months ago, Clara was born. -Sherry
- That Clara gifted us with another 11 hours of uninterrupted sleep last night. -John
Clara, Clara, and more Clara. Apparently we’re obsessed with the girl, as well as being mindnumbingly predictable when it comes to listing things like each other, our pooch, our current house, our new house, our family and friends, and our life in general. Oh yeah and did we mention our baby girl?
But there were a few wild card mentions that we tossed in there just to keep things interesting (I seem to be thankful for a lot of edible items):
- For feta cheese. – Sherry
- For Burger’s preference for my lap. Haha. He loves me more. -Sherry
- That Clara seems to enjoy music videos as much as her Daddy does. -John
- For Dexter. Best show ever. -John
- That Einstein Bagels’ Mushroom Asparagus Thin Sandwich is so good. -Sherry
- For Google. -Sherry
- For thick socks on cold floors. -John
- For spellcheck. -John
- For the funny videos that come up when you search “chihuahua” on YouTube. -Sherry
- For Oprah. -Sherry
- For Tina Fey. -John
Any random people or things that you guys are thankful for? Any fellow feta cheese lovers? Or Tina Fey fans? And I know Oprah isn’t everyone’s cup of tea but I love her. Also have to agree with John about spellcheck. Can’t live without it. All of our posts would be spelt likee dis.

I found it interesting that John was thankful for thick socks, b/c I was just noticing that he seems to be barefoot in a lot of your pictures/videos. Hmmm.
The guy has a foot problem. They’re so high maintenance. He either complains that his toes are too hot or too cold (hence all the barefoot shots in the summer). So funny.

Love them!
I’m thankful for Einstein’s vanilla coffee, and that we have a mostly-working CJ-7 adorning our yard (instead of spending ANOTHER weekend in the shop). I think the latter part of this makes me weird.

My unexpected “overwhelmingly grateful” for item this Thanksgiving is Skype. It makes a world of difference to military families like ours dealing with deployments. Someone should give the inventors an award, and a card signed by everyone who gets to see their spouse’s face despite thousands of miles and many months separation.
Would I get bonus points if I said I’m thankful for Young House Love? Because I love me some bonus points.

I’m thankful for cheese of all kinds! But feta is super tasty.
Love this post! What a fun idea! I love Tina Fey for sure. And not watching Dexter is one of my biggest regrets. I have tried to catch up because I only hear amazing things but I can’t watch too many episodes in a day. Too disturbing.
Dexter rocks! And little know factoid about moi… Tina Fey sung at my first wedding (I was acquainted with her at UVA because she was pals with my roommate, and they both sang at my wedding). Weird, huh?

I’m thankful for Tina Fey as well. I could not get through the last presidential election without her.
Diet Mt. Dew, internet shopping, IKEA, my dog Jack, good health, my family, the Florida Gators (win or lose), hockey fights (as long as no one gets hurt), animated Disney movies on Blu Ray, niblet corn, radio stations that play 24/7 Christmas music, and Florida SUNSHINE in the winter!

I am convinced that just about all dishes can benefit from feta, especially the fancy sheep’s milk feta at Trader Joe’s!
Inspired by your jar, the bf and I just started doing 25 days of Christmas texts about the little things why we’re grateful for each other. He’s out of town this week (and a lot lately for work), so it helps to have an inbox full of our texts back and forth where ever I am!

Haha, busted. Ok, so in our house the space behind your knee when you’re sitting with your legs up on the sofa is called a crock. Not sure how it got that name, but it stuck!

I have kept a gratitude journal for a long time, and now do a gratitude post every Friday on my blog. Oprah has made the list a couple times ;). I <3 her, I don't care what anyone says lol. I seriously cried the day she announced this was her last season… my husband came home from work and there I was a crying mess, he thought someone died :s.
I’m a feta lover too. Our big dollar store just started carrying COLD CASE groceries, and they have TUBS of feta for $1!!!!! Can you say Halle-freaking-lujah??!!!
Never take that sleeping baby for granted. I had a non-sleeper. She is an only child because of it….I could not risk going through that again!
In the last week or so I’ve become overwhelmingly thankful to have a long torso. (Hehe!) Because it allows my 28 1/2 week inside baby to have room to move without wedging her feet in under my ribs… yet that is. I know it’s coming. I just get to be comfortable for a few weeks longer than some of my unfortunately short-waisted friends did. I had to giggle when I read this post because I had been laughing all day over my unconventional thankful list this year.
haha yes, def thankful for FETA =) And a zillion other things. Right now i’m thankful I’m curled up on a comfy couch and not trying to survive in the woods like my G.I.Joe husband… but to be fair, i’ll be even more thankful when his butt is on this couch next to me! <3

Being a parent is life’s greatest joy! I am thankful for it everyday.
Our floors didn’t always match. The previous homeowner painted the hardwood in the two bedrooms and hallway white. We stripped the paint (a huge pain, but worth it), refinished all the hardwood in the house and now they are beautiful. The only room that doesn’t match is the bathroom…we installed 1″ white ceramic hex tile and it’s beautiful against our black claw-foot tub.
SUCH a great idea and my hubs and I LOVE Dexter. We’re a season behind so we’re dying to watch the latest episodes!!!
I’m more a Wensleydale girl. There’s a sudden rash of availability of the stuff lately, so I’m eating as much as I can. Definitely thankful for that!
Oddly enough, I’m actually thankful my husband lost his job. Don’t get me wrong, it’s been super stressful on our little family with another one on the way and I’m looking forward to the day he lands something new. But, it’s been wonderful in so many ways too. We’ve been utterly surprised with people’s generosity. We’ve come to appreciate our families even more (if it was even possible because we already considered ourselves super lucky to truly adore our own and each others families). My husband can now fully appreciate all the extra domestic stuff I did when I only worked part-time because it now falls on him. He’s gotten to spend tons of one-on-one time with our son. And, we’ve been able to re-evaluate goals, dreams, needs, wants, etc. We’ve had lots of challenging, but wonderful talks. So, as strange as it may seem for me to be thankful for this loss, I am.
Feta, Ikea, Ikea, Ikea, discovering yhl (and a lot of other people through), all the healthy-happy-adored babies born this year (and before this year), feta, my oven where I bake bread and pizza, Ikea, ikea, ikea, yhl, yhl, yhl, feta…
Agree that Dexter is in fact, the BEST.SHOW.EVER.

I’m thankful to be part of such a wonderful community of bloggers and for all the folks I have met in blogdom…..I can’t believe I feel so close with ppl I’ve never actually met. The internet gets a bad rap sometimes and I say that it really does provide a place for great things to happen….thankful for blog bffs, my adorable pooch Leon, life in the sweet south, and dark chocolate!
My husband would join you in being thankful for Tina Fey. Especially because she went to UVA when he did. He’s proud of the fact that he and she appear in the same yearbook. John and I are younger Wahoos, obviously!

Dude. That was a great lesson. We tore down two walls before we moved into our house and were left with mismatched parquet and linoleum. There’s nothing wrong with the parquet, we like it and were lucky to find just enough on clearance to replace the gross linoleum. Major, major improvement.
I’m not North American, so Thanksgiving isn’t on my holiday calendar, but it seems like a good habitat to get into – once a year, or every day. I stumbled across your blog having googled for natural cleaning products for mildew – down here in the tropics, the fungi fiesta is a bit overwhelming! So aside being thankful for hydrogen peroxide … I am thankful you’re in the blogosphere! You do great writing and your new little family restores faith in the goodness of people.
