The Season For Thanks
You guys know that we like to take a moment each month to thank our sponsors (you know, the people who help keep our site up and running… and make the other 40+ posts possible). But over the last two months we’ve been channeling Dwight Schrute from The Office (and listing things that we’re loving, like “bears, beets, Battlestar Galactica”). So instead of just doing a sponsor roll call, we’re giving you a snapshot of one thing that we’re digging from each of them (in a quick thumbnail & bullet breakdown). Call it getting a bit more personal if you will. And doing a little virtual window shopping, which you know we’re always up for.
Oh and at the very bottom of this post we’ve also collected all of the discounts they’re offering into one quick spot, so you can scroll down to save some moolah:
- Wintery wooden collectibles like trees, bears, and caribou (oh my!) from Paige Russell.
- Le Papier Studios‘s stunning collection of personalized silhouette gifts.
- Custom portraits from Limited Sketch as part of her month long “artist’s experiment.”

- The colorful work and charming story behind Painting Pony‘s equine-created art.

- The array of fonts in WallQuotes‘ custom design tool. One’s called “Whackadoo” – ha!
- 2 words: Wet saw. 3 more words: The Tile Shop. 2 final words: Please Santa (Sherry)
- Graphic and bold drum shades spotted on Shades of Light‘s homepage. Amazing.
- This ceramic turkey from Z Gallerie that says Thanksgiving in Sherry’s language.
- This print from Vol. 25 that celebrates love, kitchen-style. Yum.
- Spotting items for nearly 50% off on BULX, like these bentwood dining chairs.
- Personalized whimsical canvasses like these bubble trees from Trendy Peas.
- Finding items to repurpose on Ruby Plaza (like this enamel pitcher = shabby chic vase)
- Letterpress holiday cards from Smock Paper. Eco-friendly, colorful, & full of cheer.
- Freshline‘s assortment of customizable monogrammed prints and pillows.
- The fact that Heart & Stone Jewelry is just as earth-friendly as it is beautiful.
- This graphic twist on the traditional portrait from Hoot Design Co.
- This necklace from Lisa Leonard Designs (because we call Clara “little lady”).

Any advice you could offer a new blogger on how to get sponsors on your blog? Its 100% the most rewarding thing ever to me… but I’m going broke thing holiday season and would love to feature brands/products/sites that I love versus just throwing on some generic ads.
Any help would rock my socks! Thanks guys!

Hey Jenn,
You can read all about how our blog baby grew here (let’s just say we blogged to no one & had zero sponsors for years), and about how we run the bid-ness behind the scenes here (it’s definitely a nice snapshot of “real life” as a blogger). To any new bloggers we just suggest following your passion (corny, but true) and writing about what you love! The rest will come with time. We don’t approach sponsors, they (amazingly) come to us. And we’re happy to work with those that we feel are a good fit for our readers (which we also think is important). In short, we believe that anyone who is new at blogging just has one job: to blog with all of their heart. The rest will happen organically (passionate bloggers who work hard gain readers, and readers attract the attention of advertisers). But it’s definitely not a get rich quick sort of thing. Heck, we’re still not living very high on the hog. But it helps to remind people that we have about 200 posts with zero comments on them in the back of our archives. And 500 more with just a few readers chiming in. These things take time. Just stick with it and love what you do and things will happen for you- maybe not tomorrow, but someday!

Hi Sherry and John! Thank you so much for the link to the Limited Sketch page. I just ordered one and am trying to decide on a picture and a recipient…my mom recently turned 60 and I am thinking of giving it to her as a late birthday present. Have a great weekend!
I love that Heart and Stone jewelry!
Sherry- I purchased the white ceramic turkey (that you posted from Z Gallerie) at Ross about 2 weeks ago for $4.99. I knew you would be proud so I had to share!
I’m having trouble with your Amazon store this morning…is it just me? thanks — k
Hmm, it seems to be down for us too. Hopefully they’ll get it up and running again later today? Maybe they’re just performing maintenance or something.

Love the ceramic turkey. See, I’m not always against ceramic animals!
Haha, glad to hear that a select few have their place.

I recently saw a link to Sarah and Abraham on one of your posts and even saw a discount code for a brief period of time. I was all set to order some personalized water bottles and then the code vanished. I don’t see them on this post, either – are they no longer one of your sponsors?
Hey Lisa,
They were sponsors of ours last month, so you can follow this link to see that write up. Unfortunately they don’t appear to have offered a discount code (it would have been listed at the bottom of that post). Hope it helps!

The cardboard safari link is broken when I click on it :/ Just FYI!
Thanks! All fixed!

Which of your sponsor’s does the silhouette prints where you can email them a picture and select your colors? I think they’re $17ish…
Maybe Le Papier Studios? They’re included in this roundup, but here’s the link: http://lepapierstudio.com/personalized-art-prints-c-72
Hope it helps!

Hi Sherry & John,
Thanks for the post! Love this new format! It’s wonderful :)
Thanks,
Colleen
I love the brentwood dining chairs! Unfortunately I see they are all sold out. Any ideas where I could find similar chairs? Thanks!!
Oh no! Maybe they’ll restock and sell them again! Or you could try ebay or even westelm.com for something similar (but maybe not as deeply discounted).

Thanks for these! Just ordered a cute monogrammed pillow as a wedding gift from Freshlinen! Can’t wait to see it. And as I type this I realized I didn’t remember to even use the coupon code….Oh well!
Quick! Maybe you can email them and they’ll credit the discount back to you!

She actually did on her own. Freshline has been great to work with! Can’t wait to see the pillow!
So glad!

I like the glass tiles and have been thinking about including them in my bathroom re-do. My only apprehension is the word “glass.” Do you guys know how glass tiles hold up compared to ceramic or stone? I have kids and dogs and worry about how glass tile would take that abuse.
I think glass tiles are best when used on the wall (like as a tub surround for example) since I don’t recall ever seeing them on the floor. I imagine they hold up just as well as stone or ceramic since you don’t stomp around on the wall (they’re used in backsplashes a lot and there’s lots of action on a kitchen counter but they seem to do well there). Maybe you can call a tile shop and ask them for more details? Hope it helps!

Love your website and all your ideas! Thanks for collecting snapshots from your sponsors along with discounts. You’ve made shopping easy! You know if you made and sold your ‘Thanks’ jar I would buy many to give as gifts! I don’t always have time for doing projects myself! Can’t wait for the next post!
Hi Sherry and John,
i’m sorry if you already answered this. My husband and i are going to be doing our kitchen backsplash, and i would love to go to the tileshop b/c they have such a great selection. I see that you have a 10% discount to the tileshop using your code YHL10, does that work IN the store too? not just online?? i hope sooo!!
thanx!
We would assume so. Maybe try calling ahead of time to be sure? A lot of their sales are in store so we think it should definitely work. Good luck!

I just wanted to thank you for an amazing blog and all your diy projects. I love getting ideas (although my boyfriend thinks i’m nuts always changing stuff around) and its nice to know i’m not the only one! I also wanted to say I’m freaking out because I found a west elm desk look alike on overstock for $170 with discounts. I needed to share with someone who would appreciate it! haha. thanks!
Amazing! We’re freaking out for you. Sweet score!
