Mmmm, Mood Boards
Ladies and gents, we’ve dreamed of this day. The day that our midnight coding tantrums and accidental hunger strikes would come to an end. That’s right, we fiiiiinally figured out how to create a simple mood board gallery that you guys can browse by color or by room. Just check out the new Mood Board tab up near our blog header:
We rounded up every last mood board that we’ve made in the last three years – which adds up to nearly 150 of them! – and whipped up (well, if you can call 50+ hours spent wrestling with code) a fun little browsing system for your perusal. Now you can find inspiration for your own home when it comes to color schemes, furniture placement, or just have some accessorizing fun. Even if the furniture, accents, or art that we’ve chosen are no longer available, they’re still useful guides for hunting down (or DIYing) something similar- and hopefully they’re just the spark that you need to get excited about your next home makeover. And of course we’d love to see before & after pics along with a link to the mood board that inspired the transformation should that occur!
And this idea gallery will always be growing since we’ll be sure to add more mood boards to the mix as we continue to whip them up (the newest boards will always be displayed first). So go forth and search mood boards to your heart’s content, either by color or by room. Or you can choose to view every last one of them if you’ve got some time on your hands. We hope you have as much fun looking around as we had coding it celebrating its completion!
Just follow this link (or visit the new Mood Boards tab under our header) and remember that you can click any mood board thumbnail for a bigger image and a link to the full source list. While it’s not the most technologically advanced gallery, we hope it does the trick of making it a bit easier to digest all of those furniture and accessory riddled mood boards.
And we’re planning something similar to wrangle all of the inspirational “afters” that we’ve featured thanks to readers and people that we’ve house crashed over the years too (just picture one big database of Reader Redesigns, Design Dilemmas that have been solved, and House Crashings arranged by room and color for you to sift through). But for now we’re just trying to muster the energy to look at all of that HTML again. So stay tuned!

What do you use to whip up moodboards? Is it all photoshop or one of the moodboard specific programmes? (It it’s photoshop, have you tried out any of the others?)

We use Adobe Photoshop but have heard good things about polyvore and mydeco (which are both free sites). Hope it helps!

This is a great little feature that I’m sure a lot (if not all) of your readers will use and become obsessed with using. I just wanted to take the time to thank you for putting all that time (50+ hours, WOW!) into such a great “program”. You two are great!

Sweet! We’ve been super stuck on a color scheme for our living room now that we got new couches. They’re a dark gray with a hint of deep purple and a turquoise chair (pictures at http://www.athomealterations.com/2010/09/labor-day-weekend-at-allen-abode-work.html)

I spent some time late last week staring at all the mood boards through the old link you had. It was a smidge overwhelming. SO pumped that you have a new, much easier way to showcase all your fantastic work. And, the new site looks fantastic! I really like the MB page header.

I did want to point out that there are some link issues. For example I wanted to see Hannahs mood board, and YHL was dead set on me looking at Crystals. Just wanted to keep you in the know!

I can’t even tell you, how much I love this site! I’m pretty sure I hit it more than I even hit facebook, and that was formerly the first place I went… I recently got a new MacBook Pro (which I love Love LOVE) and I love how I all I have to do it press the “y” and enter, and poof, there you are!!!

I love your mod boards. They are so inspiring and I really like that you pick things that are affordable. I don’t know if you’ve ever thought about doing this, but I would love it if you guys did who house mod boards. Not necessarily room by room but just a general theme with paint colors that would go well together and transition from room to room. I’ve had a hard time getting my house to feel like the rooms belong together and you guys have done a wonderful job with yours.

I love it! Currently I have mostly neutrals (tan/brown) with pops of reds in my living room and dining room, but lately it’s been feeling flat, and I’ve been meaning to incorporate some blue for ages, but I had trouble picturing how it would look. I was able to peruse all your mood boards with red and blue in them in less then 5 minutes = instant inspiration!

Seriously you have rocked ALL our houses with this one! Thanks a bajillion for all your hard work.
You saved me from a big design booboo yesterday when I realized that painting our stairs white (risers) and dark brown (treads) was going to be a big mistake. A lower contrast white and tan (much like your blog colors – I knew I’d seen it somewhere!) are going to be the ticket!
I read through a LOT of design sites yesterday and yours is still the best match for our style. :)
