OOoo is it the metal roof you’ve been dreaming of?
I’m just waiting for a hail storm to come through so we can get ours replaced, haha.
Nothing to do with the roof but can I just saw how much I love her sweet little face and those big eyes! He is just talking away and her expression never changed. So cute!
That’s exciting! It would probably be music to our ears too, but our house got a new roof shortly before we bought it (which we can officially say was a year ago, now: http://hernandohouse.wordpress.com/2010/09/15/housiversary/)

Miss Clara is adorable – and never blinked once!
She looks sooooo excited about the new roof! If only I had that kind of “curb your enthusiasm” strength when I got really excited…
YAY! Congrats, you guys. How exciting!!! We have a tile roof which is pink and gray… VERY difficult colors to work with… I wonder if we could paint it? Ever heard of painting roof tiles? Anyways, I must say, CLARA IS A-DOR-A-BLE!!!!
Hmm, we’ve never heard of painting shingles (sometimes you can paint metal roofing though). Maybe there’s a bleaching or a staining process? We’ve never heard of that either but perhaps you can ask around at your local home improvement center?

It makes such a huge difference to our curb appeal which is great motivation to keep us updating our exterior.
Yea for a new roof!!! My husband (with the help of me and some family and friends) install a new dimensional shingle roof just about one year ago. We have a red brick house very similar to yours. We went with the dark gray (GAF shingles in pewter) and I’ve been happy with the choice. Talk about the ultimate DIY project – that was torture for my hubby, but I am so proud of him for what he accomplished (we did lots of research online and watched a lot of online videos whenever we had questions along the way). It’s awesome that you guys have the funds to have someone else do the work – I look forward to seeing the finished result!

Seeing as you’re getting exterior upgrades right now, I thought I’d post an exterior-related question. We are getting our windows replaced in a 1930′s brick (brown with orange/tan tints) 2 story. We want to do colored exterior and white interior, as all our trim inside is white, but don’t think white really matches the tone of our bricks for the outside. We also want to have grids in keeping with the age/style of the house. However, the company we are going through doesn’t offer two tone grids. So, finally to the question…do you think a dark brown or even a medium brown would work with white grids on the outside? It’s cheapest to get them between the glass and therefore we’d probably do white to match the inside trim. Another option might be to go with a metal (pewter or brass) grid, so it doesn’t look like we’re trying to exact match either. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks…love your blog

Maybe you can Photoshop it to see what it will look like? Or print a photo of your house and cut out grids from other pieces of paper and lay them over the picture to see how they look? Good luck.

Boy, I remember that sound. My little man was about 6 months old when we replaced ours and he wasn’t phased by it at all. My husband will be jealous that y’all hired someone…he replaced ours with a group of friends. It was hard work but it paid off in the end.

On a different note, is there some sort of banner on your fireplace? Is it the one that used to be over the couch in the office/guest room? I could only see a tinsy bit of it.

Good eye, that’s exactly what it is. We think it’s happy and playful so we hung it there just for fun. It’ll probably do a little tour of our house like a lot of other things. We like to change things up!

Clara is adorable (you might have already noticed that ;) ).
I’m really interested how the roof is/will be done. I’ve been in the US last summer, and the roofs really made me curious. Most roofs seem to be made of some kind of tar paper or asphalt shingles? I have literally no idea. In Europe, (mostly clay or slate) roof tiles are much more common.
I.am.so.jealous. As I was typing in the url to come visit your blog I was thinking about the need to do something about our roof. It started raining this week and it feels serious this time. Our nine-month rainy season is about to begin and we never fixed the roof during our five minutes of summer sunshine. I repeat: I.am.so.jealous.
Had to throw in an extra comment and say that Clara is a cutie! I’m not sure she even blinked once that entire video! Have you noticed that babies don’t blink much? I noticed that my daughter (almost 2) could beat anyone in a staring contest every. single. time.
It’s true! She loves staring us down. She and Burger give each other a run for their money though- he hardly ever blinks either!

Yay for a new roof! Ok, I watched the clip twice just to make sure, but Clara didn’t blink once during the whole thing. So funny! Also, I love that John is doing the whole baby sway thing even though Clara is perfectly content. When my little guy was a baby I found myself swaying at random times even with no baby in my arms. LOL

Sounds wonderful, but wait… why isn’t John doing the hammering? I would think he would love to tackle a roofing job or at least be a part of it? Inside instead, playing with Clara? Ok, I can justify that.
My Dad replaced our roof for us so I woke up to the pounding at 7am :) It was kind of fun though to climb up the ladder and chat with him while enjoying my breakfast on the roof.
