Wedding Week III: Bedroom Va-va-voom
In honor of wedding week we whipped up a romantic bedroom mood board just for fun. So if you and your other half are looking to spice things up in the bedroom (er, in the decorating sense of the term) just check out a few of these charming and wallet friendly items.

1. Colors like light and dark plum, brown, mocha, soft teal, and hammered gold make for a romantic and welcoming boudoir. And when it comes to a wall color that we’re imagining for this space, anything from a soft lavender (Benjamin Moore’s Violet Mist 1437) to the warm sand color shown behind the headboard above (Benjamin Moore’s Dellwood Sand 1019) would look lovely.
2. Necklaces and earrings never look more ooh la la than when they’re dangling on a wall mounted jewelry holder- especially when it’s shaped like a sweet little bird cage (and costs just $28 beans).
3. A personalized $30 Etsy print with you and your honey’s name (and even those of your children if you’ve got ‘em) can add more customized whimsy and charm. Plus those blue-green leaves tie in perfectly with this room’s color palette.
4. Matching end tables flanking the bed with these babies hanging above each of them will frame out the bed and make for some super romantic ambiance. And at $48 a pop they’re cheaper than nearly all other chandeliers we’ve seen.
5. This luxe tufted headboard (originally $600 but now on clearance for $269) has sexy curves and detailed button tufting that adds a soft and enveloping vibe to the space, especially when paired with the patterned bedding we dug up.
6. This large champagne colored mirror will add a bit more glitz to the space without stepping into Donald Trump territory. And mirrors always bounce light around for a soft come-hither ambiance that bright overhead lights just can’t provide.
7. Nothing whispers kiss me like a paisley loveseat, right? This one pairs perfectly with everything from the tufted semi-formal headboard to the plum patterned bedding- and it looks like a nice place to sit and smooch for a spell. Plus a seating area in the bedroom always feels kind of indulgent if you can squeeze it in.
8. This organic plum patterned duvet (on clearance!) is geometric enough to please most males without stepping into the dreaded “floral” category of textiles that has most guys exercising their right to veto. And adding some breezy white curtains (Ikea’s Vivan panels are $6.50 a pop and oh so sweet) along with a plush 8 x 10 rug (anything mocha, chocolate, or even cream would work) will complete the look with style to spare.
So there you have a romance-inspired bedroom in a box (well, a board) for anyone who’s looking to feather their love nest. And speaking of romantic touches, what do you guys associate with love when it comes to home decor? Scented candles or a flickering fireplace? Pink tones and ruffled textiles? Plush flokati rugs and velvet curtains? Framed photos and other personalized memorabilia? Do tell.

Ooo la la! I hope someone does this room. Sometimes I wish my husband was color blind so I could sneak more pink into our decor.
That light is AMAZING! I’m seriously considering it now – LOVE it! Great job Sherry!
I love that light! So pretty!
I am in LOVE LOVE LOVE with the chandelier and the tufted headboard! I want both NOW!
Very pretty room. Unfortunately my husband would not go for the color scheme at all. It would be a fun challenge to design a romantic room without red or pink though… I should get on that. :)
Subbing out the plum tones for silver or platinum gray would be totally gender neutral (and those tones with the same teal accent color would be awesome). Hope it helps!

I’m patting myself on the back right now because this is the very bedding ensemble that I picked out for the master bedroom in our new house! Clearly the “soak up YHL decorating skillz” plan is working. Unfortunately, my husband vetoed it…the plum color felt “girly” to him, and the awesome crinkled texture of the coverlet just looked wrinkly to him.
I tend to get my decorating way with most things, but for the bedroom I really want him to love the look…so it’s back to the drawing board! I’m thinking about going for beige and platinum and saving the plum/mauve tones for accessories.
I LOVE this room! Great job guys, that headboard is so cute. Were actually painting our room a silvery gray this weekend and I think that white headboard would look super luxe.
It’s super romantic… I love it!!
I’m just smitten by the birdcage jewelry holder. It’s the perfect blend of form and function.
You guys surprise me every time with your mood boards. I love everything about this one! Two of my fave colors working together ;D
Love the chandelier. I need to get into the chandlier making business I think. I’m obsessed with them but never ever buy them cause I’m a cheeeaaap OH!
Gorgeous! This might be my favorite room you’ve ever come up with. I love the curves, especially the upholstered headboard!
What a lovely mood board!! I love what you picked out!
I LOVE the tufted headboard. I sell a print that is similar to the one shown: http://ourhumbleabowed.wordpress.com/2010/07/07/gimme-a-giveaway-our-humble-abowed/
I love the tree stump drawing. Etsy has so many great treasures but to go though them all is impossible. I think this would be a great gift as well for grandparents.
I am loving the colors in this mood board. It seems pretty gender neutral to me – and as long as I use the word “plum” instead of purple, the hubs will think so as well. :)
Okay…that is the cutest Etsy print. I think one has our name on it. New to your blog…the house is precious. Julie
This is a beautiful mood board – your creativity and style never ceases to amaze me. This bedroom is a wonderful finale to a great wedding week!
Loved the headboard so much that I just ordered it in the kiwi color…thanks for the deal alert! :)
I am in love with the loveseat! We have a small round dining room table and I want to use it as a banquette. I think it is just traditional enough to balance out our modern furniture. I saw it last fall, but funds are tight so I’m just waitng.
I’m trying to go for the same thing in our bedroom – a romantic retreat. I love the global look so we have done an Indian/Moroccan inspired bedspread in rich, vibrant colors paired with dark furniture. I’d like to add some modern elements eventually like glass lamps and the Dolce slipper chair for a little reading nook.
I LOVE that etsy print. It’s so cute! Thanks for the link!
cute ideas! Our room is ok, but I think an update in curtains and bedding would be nice.
good design hits here. We’re painting our master bedroom and master bath Gray Screen Sherwin Williams (unless I switch to SW North Star!) next week. I have a mere 10 paint swatches on the walls now — spent as much on trial cans as a whole gallon might cost! well not quite. We have the greens/blues goin on for bedding and West Elm’s bi-color panels in platinum and darker grey border. That chandelier could be a sweet addition! love that mirror too, may check out Pier I this weekend. Thank you for all your good ideas and for sharing your lives with all of us.
I just love your blog! I purchased the West Elm duvet cover a couple months ago and just love it. Now I have inspiration to finish the rest of the masterbedroom.
Thanks you guys! Because of you I now own two of those amazing chandeliers, picked up at my local UO. However, I can’t redo my whole bedroom. I’ve got pale yellow walls and a white duvet with embroidered yellow dots on it from Pottery Barn. Any other ideas for what colors to add in there? I’d even be willing to repaint! Thanks a million!
Awesome! We’d love to see photos of those amazing chandeliers in your room (don’t forget to snap before pictures!). They’ll look lovely with pale yellow walls and a white and yellow duvet. We would just add one or two more accent colors for some layered interest (anything from platinum gray and silver to soft aqua or pear would look gorgeous). Hope it helps!

Beth–
I second that request — post some before/after pics of your new lighting in place. I will have to order one. Would like to know how easy they are to hang.
I came across your website today and have fallen absolutely in love with it. You have such amazing ideas and helpful info on here, I don’t think I have seen anything quite like it! Although, I must say I’m raging jealous of your mad design skills, I unfortunately fall into the “matchy matchy” category. I’m in the process of redoing my living room and bedroom, and I loved this post. I think I’m seriously going to copy it (if I can). The plum bedding is all sold out though. Any idea where I could try and get it or something in that “platinum gray” you were talking about? thanks again. Sorry this comment is ridiculously long.
Hey Becca,
So glad you found our blog! We’d suggest googling around for “dwell bedding” since they have some great geometric patterns or even try cb2, crate & barrel or other duvets from westelm.com. Oh and overstock! And ebay- heck ebay might even have the original duvet! Happy hunting…

I’m quite obsessed with upholstered headboards. What a beautiful one!!
I used this moodboard as a jumping off point to decorating the bedroom in our first house. I made a few tweeks, but here it is…
