Life Out Of A Magazine
We always love looking to home decor catalogs for inspiration and ideas. But the writer of this new blog, Catalog Living, is all about finding irony and humor instead. She basically takes an overly-styled room in a catalog and imagines what strange conversations must surround each beautiful but not-so-logical scene. For example…
The site is barely a week old but you may have already heard about it (@kmgoergen tipped us off on Twitter yesterday – thanks Kelly!) since it’s already full of things that have everyone LOLing (as the kids say).
And as a bonus game for everyone with a love of all things home decor, it’s definitely fun to play NAME THAT CATALOG! Pottery Barn? West Elm? Restoration Hardware? Some are easier than others.
The woman behind Catalog Living is actress and comedian Molly Erdman, whose sarcasm you might recognize from Sonic commercials like these:
But now you can enjoy her particular brand of humor without developing cravings for ice cream. Though I guess cravings for home decor items are always a possible side effect…

This is hilarious! I have to admit, I often wonder who in the hell is coming up with some of these prop arrangements in catalogs. Old-timey buoys by a swimming pool? Near a canoe on a lake, I can understand, but really? A pool??
I love those commercials and love that there were so many for a while, with such funny dialogs. My favorite were the ones that they showed on MTV during The Hills show, since the dialog talked about characters on the show. Great blog that she created!
This is funny, but it is very similar to a popular blog here in Canada called the Mogg Blog. Check it out!

Those are SO funny! I was almost crying by the time I got done…my kids were wondering what was wrong with me.
She notices things that I never thought of before.
I’ve definitly added it to my favorites.
THANX guys!

… wonder if she found the pic in the new summer sale Pottery Barn catalog – the table that’s missing a leg? THAT could make for some funny captions! ;)
So fun! That really takes me back. My Mom and I would always look through the PB catalog and laugh at the improbable scenes. Like a giant vase of flowers next to the bed and the alarm clock. We all know how that would go in real life. -sigh-, thanks for the laugh.
Thank you for adding another hilarious blog to my list of hilarious blogs I follow. Partly genuine and partly sarcastic, because seriously, I need to get away from this time-sucking contraption called my laptop!
Very clever, who would of thought comments about catalog pics would be so funny.

Tee hee. I just love this. My shoes never look as good as the “haphazardly” placed ones by the door in magazines.
