Hello, My Name is FARTYG
If you’re not already reading How About Orange you should probably start. Why? For one, because Jess always finds fun things like this Swedish Furniture Name generator (i.e. what kind of Ikea furniture are you?) from Blogadilla. Just enter your first name and presto-change-o you’ve got yourself a vowel and umlaut-riddled nickname complete with a corresponding furniture illustration. Here are ours:
And if you’re wondering about the post title, neither of us were blessed with the name FARTYG (which, no joke, is the name of a real light sold at Ikea). But that won’t stop either of us from picturing a flatulent rap star who goes by that name. Oh Ikea, you crack us up.

And if you’re like me and take the time to wonder what would happen if you put in the name “Billy” (which already happens to be the name of an Ikea bookcase) it still generates an even more Swede-tacular name:

So what’d you guys get? Are you a bed? A chair? An end table?
PS: For more Ikea fun, you might enjoy “Easy To Assemble.” This Ikea-approved web series features real actors, including faux training videos like Jeff Goldblum, providing useful Swedish phrases.

my name is Mantii, and I am the same piece of furniture as John. :)
I spent a year in Sweden. “Fartyg” is “ship” in Swedish. Even better, the Swedish word for “speed” is “fart”. Took me a while to get used to.
This is so funny! I can’t even pronounce my IKEA name! great marketing trick! thanks for sharing!
super disappointed. apparently my ikea name is… wait for it… sarah. seriously.
I case someone wonders: FARTYG is the swedish word for ship. :-)
HAHAHA! This cracks me up! I’m a chair called Stjesvany. Hilarious :)
LOL! I love it. Mine is a bed called SFRISTIND.
My name wasn’t anything too wild: Ellenby. Oh well!
im a chair called JÅKKWYELENN
Hello, my name is KARENBY and I’m a chair.
OK…I got one of those wall mounted double-sided make-up mirrors at IKEA. One side is super-magnified. It is called the Frack, as if you look at your face magnified and say “Oh Frack.” ;-) OH MY!!!
I’m INNES and I’m a desk!!!
ahahahah!
I’m the Hetørd chair
My furniture name is KÅT and I’m a bed!
Sarah, I feel your pain. My Ikea name is Mellisa.
I remember seeing this on How About Orange a while back… However, I couldn’t remember what my name was, so I went back and did it again.
My Ikea name is STJEFFÄNNI and I’m a chair. How fun :)
*sigh* Ikea is calling me names.
SKÅRYÅN
Does anyone else read that as “Scary ann”?!? Yeah, my first name is Karianne.
And I’m a nightstand looking contraption.
This is why I choose to go by Kari most of the time–it leaves less to the imagination.
LOL OMG…I’m cracking up. I would be a cute little end table. :)
I think my favorite IKEA name has to be Dombas. I mean, really, I can’t make this stuff up!
My Ikea name is Savsi. Sounds kinda… Sassy, no?
I’m a chair with a low, angled back which has big square hole through it.
Um… Tasteful.
:/
ELYZÅBET and I’m a bed… or SLYZ (for Liz) and chair. I’m not sure if that’s like “slys” or “sleaz”. I prefer slys, of course
A little fun IKEA tidbit- like on the Easy to Assemble series, the training videos are kinda funny. A few feature a Yoda puppet in a yellow IKEA polo who fights Darth Wal-Mart. Yep.
Oh, and my Swedish name is ÄDDRÄIN. A drain. Really? :P
hahahah this is great!! i am GINN and i am a bed. I suppose those two might go hand in hand… drinking Gin would make anyone fall asleep I’m sure!
I’m very jealous because I am Swedish so I’m completely missing out on all the funny jokes people have about the names! To me they are just… names! Like “fartyg” for example… it took me until further down in the post to get it! I guess when I read swedish, i’m in my swedish and not thinking about what it would mean or sound like in english.
Wow, I’m immature. I keep reading the name as “farty G.” :P
My Swedish name is SFERI and I would be the same thing as BJILLII.
Well my name ended up being SKERRII (is that scary???) no surprise it’s almost identical to Sherry’s… but i was the same desk/table thingy as John. Go figure…
Aha! Fartyg is ship! Good to know – that definitely clears up the sign “Til Fartyget” that made me giggle like a 7 year old boy. “To the ship”!
The Scando countries are fun for those of us with puerile senses of humour. “Fart Kontrol” (speed control) signs on the highway, a button on an elevator that says “i fart”, “max 4 knob” (4 knots) speed sign for watercraft, “slutspurt” all over shops indicating the sale is about to end…
Haha, I think Kate’s comment somewhere above is by far the funniest. “KÅT” actually means horny in Swedish and she’s a bed…
Excuuuuuze me, take your FARTYG elsewhere pls?
I am GRÄSS but no such equivalent on IKEA.com. The visual shown was a table but apparently if you keep refreshing it, the graphic changes!

This is pretty funny! Thanks!
SFRYSVTENN is one good looking chair, haha, too funny!
I’m BJRITTÅNII, a chair at one moment and then it changes and I’m BJRYTTÅNNII a side table or even a dresser by the name of BRITTANII.
DÄNNA – I’m a chair.
GÅBJRÄILL and I am also a side table :) why cant mine be FartyG??
Put in my name Abri… I guess it’s weird enough- my IKEA name is ÄBRI :)
KANTASS is in da house!! *dances*
Us Sarah’s are just sarah!! haha
I’m a cute little chair, but sadly my name didn’t get very Swede-fied. I went from Jenna to Jena. That was fun though!
If you keep pressing “Enter” you get more name possibilities
Well, I’m MÄRIGEN and I’m also the same piece of furniture as John. Awesome. :)
my results page flickered (?) between KÅTY and SKÅTI, both a bed. =)
No surprise…
Britta is still Britta (but a bed). Got to love that Swedish heritage.
I am Slarenra.
My fiance Derek is Derek!
If you type in “fartyg,” it’ll even further Swedify that…and then if you type that in,….
How funny! I’m a bed, by the way, and my name was spelled Kristl!
I’m a Sara with out an H… My name is Sarke an I’m a bed.
Mine’s SKERRII, and I’m an endtable.
