Fab Freebie: Artist’s Block
***This giveaway is no longer accepting entries***
This next giveaway came to us as a nursery-themed giveaway, but personally we think Numsi‘s uniquely mod art is suitable for walls of any age. Their contemporary patterns (or custom text) is printed on canvas and then mounted on a 2″ deep birch museum frame to give it some modern dimension and bring some pop to you art collection.
Plus, since the deep birch plywood cradle makes these blocks of art so sturdy, they can hang on the wall, sit on a shelf or anchor your latest mantlescape. So have some fun browsing their collection of animals and vehicles or patterns and text, because one of you is taking away a $100 credit towards anything on Numsi’s site this week (and the rest of you are taking away a sweet discount).
Here’s how to enter this week:
- PRIZE: $100 towards anything from Numsi.
- TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “BLOCK ME” and…
- BONUS QUESTION: … since we’re referencing writer’s block, why not share a tip that you use to overcome any creativity or productivity block. Do you go someplace special to help you focus? Got an mental exercise to get your juice flowing again? Or do just go do something else and hope the motivation finds you again later.
- GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, May 19th at 8pm EST

BLOCK ME!
I jump up and down, seriously… nothing gets my creative juices flowing better than good old jumping. (It drives the dogs crazy)
BLOCK ME!
I always take a walk when a creative block hits.
Block me!
If I have the luxury of time, I always step away from it for a while.
BLOCK ME!!
Shopping always gets my creative juices flowing again!
BLOCK ME … and I just start writing knowing that editing it later will bring it all together.
Block me!
My creative juices start flowing as soon as I try to shut my mind off and fall asleep!
BLOCK ME
I love to take brisk walks when I have writer’s block… then I’ve exercised, and cleared my mind!
BLOCK ME!
a quick power nap usually does it for me. it’s like hitting the reset button. :)
BLOCK ME!! I go running… it usually works!
BLOCK ME!!
I turn up the music to get me going!
Block ME”…super cool Art…
BLOCK ME!
I would just sit down and not let myself leave my office until I had started writing at least a page. I found if I could get a page done I could write a dozen more no problem. My problem was just making myself start.
BLOCK ME…
As a professional writer, I can’t afford not to work. I build rewards into my day. Like, if I write two pages, I can read Young House Love. : ) It works!
BLOCK ME!
I usually just go and do something else to clear my mind for a little bit and then come back to what I was doing.
“BLOCK ME” when I need to get inspired I will read my Bible. I love to go sit outside in the garden and just listen to the birds and the breeze in the trees.
Block me :D
The best advice I’ve received is to start something else and return to your project when the mood strikes.
Block Me!! I’ve got nothing:-( sorry
block me!
BLOCK ME!
I have no chance of overcoming writer’s block (or any kind of productivity block) if my “area”–my den, house, whatever–isn’t picked up. Picking up my space usually unblocks me, but if I still feel blocked, then I set the timer and just work for a specified amount of time. For instance, if I’m writing, then I just write, anything, without thinking about whether it is good or anything, until time is up. Or if I’m sewing, then I just start sorting fabric, washing it, practicing some of the hard stitches or techniques on scraps until time is up. This way, I got started, and the next time I sit down to work on the project I have something to start from. And no matter how bad the start is, it’s always better an more inspiring than nothing.
BLOCK ME. I usually get up and do anything else to clear my mind. Frequently just a walk with some fresh air does the trick, or even some house cleaning to make me feel productive.
BLOCK ME! I love perusing the aisles of used books at a fabulous local bookstore–Powell’s in Portland–the well-loved editions and busy coffee shop full of aspiring writers do wonders.
BLOCK ME
(please!)
“Block me”! A drive around town…
BLOCK ME!
I’m lucky to live in an ecletic, historic old neighbourhood – I just go for a walk, and there’s always something new and inspiring to see!
BLOCK ME!
I have to do something else and come back to whatever it is that was challenging me. Usually I have new perspective and am able to get through!
BLOCK ME!
Getting some exercise (yoga, swimming) and listening to music :)
BLOCK ME!
I turn on John Denver tunes. Weird, huh? I grew up listening to him with my dad, and somehow that was the only music I could listen to while cranking out college homework in the middle of the night. Still works whenever I have writer’s block!
Block Me! Inspiration usually comes when I put it aside and do something else.
Block me!
When I have a creativity block, as a writer, I force myself to work through it. Even if I create something I don’t love, I feel like at least I worked at it rather than giving in. =)
BLOCK ME!
For inspiration, I check out all of my favorite blogs! I find them to be very inspiring!
Block me!
Since I’m currently writing my doctoral comprehensive exams, writer’s block has been a bit of a problem. I usually take a break for a hot shower, which helps, and promise myself rewards for later in the date, like a latte or fat glass of wine.
BLOCK ME!!!
If I am in need for a little inspiration, I just pull out a piece of cardboard and some paint and just start filling in space with random colors…. after only a few brush strokes something comes. I am left with a great piece of “art” and ideas for several other things. Plus it gets me in an artistic mood :)
BLOCK ME!
I usually turn on Pandora or some other form of music and that gets me out of a funk.
BLOCK ME
I usually clean. Writers Block is frustrating and cleaning helps me deal with the frustration!
BLOCK ME
To clear a creative block, I usually have to take the advice from the movie Finding Forrester and start copying another artist or piece of work until I can unleash my creativity and start making something of my own. It’s so eye-opening, too, when you imitate someone’s style or process because I learn new ways to do things and that always affects my own work.
Block Me!
I have to have everything quiet, which can be hard with a 2 year old and 4 year old running around. I usually go in my room, lock the door, and put some ear plugs in.
BLOCK ME
Exercising and stepping away from something for a bit always helps me get productive again!
BLOCK ME!
If I’m having trouble coming up with something, I’ll leave it for a bit. Also, I noticed that working out or even just being outside gets my creative juices flowing again.
BLOCK ME!
I just have to leave and come back later and then it always goes better when I come back!
BLOCK ME!
I go for a jog …
BLOCK ME!
I just do something different. Take a break from whatever I was doing
BLOCK ME!
I’ve found that cleaning my house helps me focus and be more productive.
BLOCK ME!
BLOCK ME…
I go running!
BLOCK ME!!
Usually when I have writers block, I take a break — do yoga and try to do a headstand. It must be something about going upside down that helps you get things clear again!
BLOCK ME!
If I’m in need of inspiration–I just close my eyes and take a nap. My dreams will take over and some crazy ideas will emerge!
BLOCK ME!!
I definitely take a step back for as much time as I need if I hit a wall. Doing something that takes my mind off of the task at hand usually helps!
BLOCK ME
music and nature inspire me:)
BLOCK ME
If I ever get stuck or need inspiration, I usually head to the beach
BLOCK ME!
Yay! Lack of inspiration means I need to get down on the floor and play with my baby. That always works.
