Fab Freebie: Canvas The Area
***This giveaway is no longer accepting entries***
Are you looking to kick off your art collection? Do you want to add a bit of gallery-eque feel to that blank wall? Or do you just love winning something pretty? Well this week’s prize from Rachel Halsey Photography is right up you’re alley then.
Rachel’s a portrait-photographer-for-hire from Greenville, SC who’s making the move into selling her vintage-inspired images. So now her sometimes-sweet, sometimes-industrial work is available on canvas in two styles: gallery wraps (where the canvas is wrapped around 1.5″ piece of wood) or float wraps (which are similar, but give the added dimension of “floating” off the wall a bit). Either way you look at it, it’s a sophisticated twist on your traditional framed art wall or leaning mantlescape (bonus: each canvas is ready to hang, so there’s no need to hunt down a frame).
Here’s the breakdown about how you can snag one for yourself (oh and stay tuned for a YHL discount on Thursday):
- PRIZE: Any image in Rachel Halsey’s shop, in either a 11 x 14 gallery wrap or a 16 x 20 float wrap
- TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “CANVAS ME” and…
- BONUS QUESTION: … since this week is about giving your art a gallery feel, we’d love to hear if you have a favorite art gallery or museum of another variety. Are you a MoMA guy or gal? Or maybe you’d rather find yourself in your city’s science or history museums?
- GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, March 31th at 8pm EST
- NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
- PRIZE SHIPS: To all Americans and Canadians alike
- USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday. Good luck!

I love any art that is nature-inspired.
CANVAS ME!!!!!!!! My hubby and I just spent our anniversary in IKEA (it’s true.) and were drooling over so many of the canvas prints in there, just not wanting to pay the price. We’d LOVE to win this.
Canvas me!! I love going into a Vladimir Kush or Richard Macdonald gallery. They are brilliant!
CANVAS ME!!!!
I like museums and art galleries of all kinds, but my favorite kinds are interactive ones….there’s a working 18th and 19th century farms museum in Littleton, CO (Littleton Historical Museum). It’s a blast to walk through and actually talk to the staff, who are in costume and character. And another one in Colorado Springs (Rockledge Ranch) where we actually participated in an 19th century Christmas, plum pudding and all.

Here in Grand Rapids, MI we have the “GRAM” – Grand Rapids Art Museum which is housed in a really great modern building in our downtown area.

Last weekend, my husband and I were in Vegas (I had a training course for work), and we stumbled upon a Chihuly gallery in the new City Center complex. I had seen a huge Chihuly exhibit in SF at the DeYoung, and I was so excited to see some more pieces! His glasswork is amazing.

I live in DC, so I have so many museums to choose from it is not easy. But I think I still love the natural History Museum. It is just so fun. My second choice would be the contemporary side of the smithsonian art museum…I think it is the east museum. So much cool and unusual art.
CANVAS ME!
I’m a traditional art kind of gal. Unfortunatly, there aren’t many museums in my neck of the woods.

Some artist friends of mine from church started the Van DeLeer Art Society and we had our first swanky art show in a small, 1920′s “mansion” on my street. I live in a college town so we enjoy art on the Quad, downtown, in church, and at the campus galleries.
CANVAS ME…
You have to check out zozoville…I stumbled upon this gallery while roaming the streets of Berlin. They have the most adorable (and sometimes irreverent) monster paintings. I put three of them up in my son’s room and just about everyone that sees them inquires where I bought them.

Love museums – only one really where I live, but it’s nice for the area. I love natural history museums, but visiting Chicago’s Museum of Industry last summer was a great experience with my former bf (now fiance).

My favorite art gallery is actually the brand new Art Gallery of Alberta. They did a whole rebuild of it and it looks stunning and adds some needed texture to downtown Edmonton.
CANVAS ME!
I am more of a natural history museum or sometimes a little jewelry exhibit at a local museum. Even the kids’ museums are a lot of fun. More hands on for the kids and adults alike!

There’s a little gallery in Providence, RI that I love called 17 Peck. But more than galleries, I love small art/creative festivals like the South End Open Market in Boston.

I love the Getty in LA – but handmade art is my favorite. A collage of b&w photos, a painting by my mother-in-law, a collection of plates on the wall from vintage shops and passed down by my grandmother… you can’t beat the memories!

As a photographer I love all kinds of art. I could spend days in almost any museum but especially any musuem that focuses on photography! St. Louis has some great musuems (and the zoo) in Forest Park all of which are FREE! Free is good.

the NC Museum of Art is great, but i also like to use my own artwork and photography to make my own collages. i have also painted right onto the wall before for a very unique piece then found an old frame, spray painted it silver, and hung it directly onto the wall “framing” my masterpiece! I can always paint over it or change it up, whatever keeps things fresh!

I LOVE all the museums in DC. So many choices and all free.
