Who Doesn’t Love A Discount?
They say a penny saved is a penny earned. And who doesn’t love keeping some money in their wallet when the aforementioned discount is listed under a bodacious eighties-inspired title like “Discount-O-Rama.” Eh? Who’s with me? High five? Really, no one? Shaft would like it. (Sherry literally laughed in my face when she saw what I entitled our new sidebar feature, then rolled her eyes and said “we have to change that” and then slowly agreed to “leave it for now”- a veritable naming victory).
Okay, so you may have already noticed the newest addition to our sidebar (bearing that what-were-they-drinking title) when it popped up last week. But just in case you didn’t- or you get your fill of YHL on an aggregate site like Google Reader- here’s your official notice.

Since so many of our sponsors generously offer up some pretty sweet price breaks, we figured we’d make it easy on you to see where you can save dough (rather than having to scroll through old posts like our monthly sponsor shout-outs to hunt them down). So be sure to check out that ever-changing list on the regular. Who knows, you might just save some green. You dig?

Sweet!
Awesome! I was so excited to see this. Nothing is better than a one-stop-shop for discounts. The RetailMeNot of YHL savings. You get the drift. I’m stoked.
When I remove anything like outlet covers, lights, etc., I like to tape the screws to it. It USUALLY keeps everything together. But nothing is foolproof. :-)
Well, my comment about taping screws to things makes no sense at all here, since it was supposed to go with the previous post. D’oh!!!
I would have laughed at you too ;)
Thanks!
I think the name is fantastic! You should keep it that way. And thanks for creating that section, I’m sure we’ll all find it very helpful down the line. :)
i dig! :-)
great discount-o-rama…wait until you read beanette “Llama Llama mad at Mama”…they go to the Shop-o-rama…I read this to my daughter who was born on May 19 2005…isn’t this your due date??? good luck with your taurus…
Yup! That’s our exact due date but if she’s a few days late she falls in Gemini territory. Should be interesting! Off to check out your book recommendation. Sounds cute!

Spotted it earlier this week and was super excited… The Tile Shop and CabinetKnob.com will be helpful as we finish off our basement laundry room & bathroom! :) (Already found something I like at The Tile Shop… just need to decide if the extra cost for shipping it to Canada will be worth the money saved!)
I approve of this new feature. Very handy.
Y’all have made your website so user-friendly! I love it! Thanks for being so dedicated to producing such a quality site; you’ve really set the bar.
Awesome! Thank you :)
Saw this yesterday and was so excited! Thanks for making it even easier to love your blog!
You guys are like those fish market people with the good business strategy. “Make their day”. Anyone know what I’m talking about? Anyway, thanks a bunch!
Hey Amanda,
We’re off to google “fish market people” and “make their day” – too funny!

This is a great feature. Since I know your goal this year is to enhance the site, I thought this was a good time to give you some reader feedback. I may be speaking for myself, but I LOVE how you guys have the entire post visible on the home page of your site, and you don’t make us click to read the rest of the posts “after the jump” like so many blogs do. I can see why others might like that feature because they can skim more easily, but I hate waiting for a new window to load! Also, I think the FAQ’s and Source Lists are AWESOME and your site is so easy to navigate- something many other blogs lack. That’s just my 2 cents- keep up the fantastic work, I love this blog!
Amanda, I know exactly what you’re talking about!! Sherry, if you haven’t found it yet it’s Pike Place Market in Seattle, WA. They make throwing stinky dead fish around into something that will inspire you and make your day.
Just don’t ask them for a picture. They’ll make you hold the dead stinky fish.
Ooooh! We know that place! It was on the Real World. Isn’t it funny that’s our frame of reference? It looked really fun though!

OK – yall just continue to rock. Maybe make it so that when you click on the shop link it opens a new tab?
Awww…thanks guys! You are da best!
Thanks for the heads up.
I *do* read via GoogleReader so I wouldn’t have known about this if not for your post.

Other than Cabinetknob.com, do you have any other resources for cabinet hardware? I have a bedroom set of antique furniture that needs some sprucing up with new hardware, but of course 2-1/2 inch (also called 64mm) handles in brushed nickel are very difficult to find. Home Depot has one option only at $5 a pop… Ace Hardware has none.
Good question! We also like Anthropologie, Lowe’s, and even eBay- but you can’t go wrong flipping through the Yellow Pages to find a local hardware dealer (here in Richmond there’s a place called Pleasant’s Hardware where we got a lot of our kitchen knobs/pulls). Plus it ended up being cheaper than the stuff we liked at Home Depot! Hope it helps.

Great feature! Thanks.
No, no!! You must have the Bean on May 16!! That way she and I will share the same birthdate AND both be Taureans!!
I don’t know if you will read this, if you’ve seen this, or if you have these in your home… but I thought it important since it involves small children getting hurt. It is a massive recall of roman blinds and roll up blinds. (Strangulations)
Here is the information:
http://www.cpsc.gov/cpscpub/prerel/prhtml10/10077.html
Oh yes the big blind recall! We definitely encourage people to update their blinds so they’re child-safe (ours weren’t involved in the recall but anyone who was effected by it can usually pick up a piece of metal to help wrangle the cord so it’s not accessible to children who can get hurt). It’s so worth the time so everyone with similar blinds should make sure they have the safest set up in their house!
