I love the natural look in the nursery, well done. It is classic and soothing, just what a new little addition needs.

I love, love, love The Little Prince -- the French version is one of my favorite stories.

In terms of the room design, I think the mobile is my favorite part. It's charming but simple and gender neutral (which I'm a big fan of). And the mural -- I can't believe it's hand painted...! I recently did some birds in this room, http://tearinguphouses.blogspot.com/2010/01/before-after-historic-house-by-water.html -- initially on a whim -- and ended up loving them. Fun stuff...

I agree on the SIDS info! It's so helpful to be informed. Claire slept in a bumper-free pack 'n play during the highest SIDS risk period in her parents' room with a fan on, as well as other precautions.

Joan, the desk was purchased either at Crate and Barrel or Pottery Barn years ago on clearance. It's since been moved to the master bedroom.

Also, I compiled a blog post showing the process, etc. for the nursery if anyone is interested:

Hey Robyn,

You're definitely right that anything involving children's safety can get a bit touchy! It's certainly a personal decision, but we're all about greening up our nursery and have already purchased a completely organic crib mattress (with fire retardant wool instead of any chemicals) and have also hunted down a solid wood crib without any offgassing glues or finishes (more details to come as we spill more nursery beans!). Again, things like cosleeping, crib bumpers and organic mattresses are definitely personal decisions so we're not judging anyone else or telling them how to live but we're certainly aware of the arguments for and against many areas of baby safety and we certainly don't take things like SIDS lightly! It's always great to be informed. Thanks for your concern and for the link.

Hey guys, not to get preachy about such a scary subject as SIDS, but there is a very compelling argument outside of the United States that the reason why so many factors, such as crib bumpers, rooms without ceiling fans, sleeping in the parents bed, teenage mothers and some ethnic groups (poverty), 2nd and 3rd born children, fevers and vaccinations play into the SIDS risk is because of reusing the baby mattress or sleeping on an older mattress with mom and dad. Fire retardant chemicals + spit up and sweat = toxic nerve gas. Not to start a debate on a do-it-yourself site, but it is a very compelling argument and I love to spread the word when I have the chance.

If you can afford it, buy a Naturepedic organic mattress that doesn't contain fire-retardant chemicals. If you can't afford it, the $30 solution is to wrap your mattress. New Zealand families started doing this years ago and they haven't had a baby die on a properly wrapped mattress, ever. Instructions are in the link below.

I'm a new mama too, and SIDS scared me so much that I couldn't sleep at night. I compiled a lot of information and put it into an article, though I don't know if links are allowed on this site.

It's calicoblonde (dot) wordpress (dot) com

I'll put it into the URL for my name, too.
