Pop Quiz: HomeGoods
Since we had so much fun a few weeks ago with this quiz from Ethan Allen, we thought we’d try another one on for size this week. This “StyleScope” quiz from HomeGoods (yes Sherry squealed when I revealed that it was created by her favorite accessory store) was actually shared by Stefanie on Twitter so we have her to thank for the fun.
But be sure to save some thanks for Deborah Needleman too. She created the quiz and you may recognize her as the founding editor-in-chief of Domino magazine (RIP). So you can imagine how high our hopes were for this analysis…
Unfortunately, I’d have to say it’s one of the more off-base results we’ve been given in a while. I was pegged as: Elegant Classic, which makes me picture someone serving tea in an evening gown (I can honestly say I’ve never experienced that, nor do I plan to). Some of the descriptions make a bit more sense (liking order, symmetry and timeless appeal) but most don’t sound very familiar at all (natural sense of drama, appreciation for family heirlooms – um, have you seen how much Ikea/Target/HomeGoods we own?). Maybe I got thrown off by all of the questions about entertaining (since that’s not something that we do a lot of- we’re too busy being blog nerds on nights and weekends).

Surprisingly (or perhaps not so surprisingly) Sherry also got the same Elegant Classic result. And she had the same initial hesitation that I did about the title. But her slightly altered description showed a bit more accuracy: valuing serenity, harmonious color palettes and respect for the environment. Her results continued to be different in some places (my design challenge: maximize; her challenge: organize) and exactly the same in others (we had the same “Happy Home” colors, which are somewhere near the neutral family that we both gravitate towards for the most part).

But enough about our results. Head over and take the HomeGoods StyleScope quiz yourself and let us know what you think of your results. Our fingers are crossed that they’re right on for you because we love HomeGoods a little too much around Casa Petersik and we’re hoping they nail it for someone, even if that lucky someone can’t be us (did I just hear Sherry sniffle from the other room?). Oh HomeGoods why have you forsaken mislabeled us?
Psst- Wanna take more fun (and possibly semi-accurate) decorating style quizzes? Here are a few oldie but goodies: Sproost, Ikea, Creative Youniverse.

These are so fun! I got “Earthy Casual.” I’m sure my husband will get the polar opposite of that, though :).
Hmm pretty accurate, actually. I got Country Classic, which is fitting. Also, my goal is Unify, which is tooootally what I need to do. I liked the quiz!
Mine is actually right on. It says I’m “Earthy Casual,” which to me was wrong until I read the description.
Earthy Casual – You’re interested in creating a welcoming home where people feel comfortable and happiness flourishes. You appreciate the warmth and individuality of natural materials and handcrafted things and are inspired by colors and forms from nature.
It’s all correct!
I got Glamourous Classic. Definitely do not agree! Maybe I’m down with the classic, but with a toddler who gets into EVERYTHING, I’m definitely not glamourous! :)
Well,I got “bohemian classic”, which sounds awesome but is a mislabel for me, too…I’m not nearly that cool. It did say that my challenge was experimenting, though, so that was true enough!
Heather, you are an Earthy Casual
You’re interested in creating a welcoming home where people feel comfortable and happiness flourishes. You appreciate the warmth and individuality of natural materials and handcrafted things and are inspired by colors and forms from nature. You love mixing up different textures and are sensitive to the tactile qualities of objects. Your style is grounded and solid, not flighty or frilly. And you are never taken in by the trend of the moment.
You value order. You feel happiest if your home is well organized. You understand that when your house is in order, your mind feels clearer. Rather than a lot of meaningless objects or overly-designed items, you are happier with a few well-placed things. Your home is your respite from a busy life. Try to avoid letting things into your home that you don’t really love.
SPOT ON!! except for the Happy home colors which were an array of reds/pinks/lavander.
My home is decorated in Blues, Greens, Tans, and Greys.
I am Bohemian Casual… pretty accurate for me! Our home is cozy and a bit ecclectic!
“You are interested in creating a place where people feel relaxed. You have a variety of interests and influences and so appreciate different styles, cultures, and objects. Your home is cozy, with comfy chairs, throw pillows and places to set a drink or a book. But it also feels creative and visually intriguing, because you have an artist’s eye that allows you to find objects that appeal to you in a unique and personal way—whether from your travels or from a local shop. This gives your home a feeling of being laid-back, and maybe even a bit quirky with its mix of pieces—some of which are classic, some handmade, some ethnic, and some just rich in meaning to you.
You value serenity. While there are probably a lot of interesting things in your home, they are joined by your taste or a certain palette that keeps them in harmony. You appreciate the beauty in simple forms. Whether fancy or plain, you appreciate things that are well made and function as well as they look. You also have a strong respect for the environment and craftsmanship. You care about how things are made, and how they are used.”
I just took the quiz, and it was pretty right on – D R A M A T I C M O D E R N.
Sometimes the questions didn’t have an answer that was appropriate, so I had to pick one that made the most sense
Country Casual girl here which seems right on target. I’ve come a long way from just plain country. I’ve spent the past few years ‘undecorating’ and simplifying, heading towards a more calm atmosphere.
I’m interested in seeing how a baby will affect your decorating style.
I was pegged as “Earthy Modern”. That sounds right to me!
You value comfort. Your home is a warm and open friendly place, and you feel happiest when everyone is cared for and relaxed in your space.
I just took the IKEA style quiz and it also said I was “Modern.”
Thanks for posting the quizzes.
I got the exact same colors as you! As for the style, I think they got it pretty right:
you are a COUNTRY CASUAL
Your home expresses your open, easygoing approach to life. You love unique finds, and can turn a few mismatched garden chairs or floral teacups into a charming arrangement. You appreciate a pretty mix of relaxed pieces, like painted wood or weathered furniture, lovely florals and other patterns, lots of throws and pillows, mementos and bunches of fresh flowers that give your home a unique sense of breeziness and charm.
You value comfort. Your home is a warm and open friendly place, and you feel happiest when everyone is cared for and relaxed in your space. Elements like pillows, throws, overstuffed furniture, and good lighting set the mood. You may also enjoy layering different fabrics or mixing patterns to create a cozy effect.
I got “Earthy Casual” too, very fitting

Mine was perfect! I got “Country Classic” and I need to work on organizing – which my hubby would TOTALLY agree with. I thought this was definitely one of the better quizzes out there ;)
Earthy Casual-I think it fits!
This is the first quiz that got me spot on! “Global Modern” I like a modern base with a lot of interesting accessories each with its own good story behind it.
Lots of fun for a Monday morning!
you guys should make your own quiz. those quizes are usually a little off for me too.
My result is Glamorous Classic, which is closer to want I’d like to be than to what I actually am.
Anyway it’s quite accurate.
My goal are you asking? Obviously Organize.
Great quiz. I think mine is me and our house. :-)

And I LOVE Home Goods. Most of our house is Home Goods, Target, IKEA and JCPenny. Love it all. :-D
I also was pegged as “Elegant Classic” and have a house full of West Elm, Ikea and Z Gallerie. =) The happy color palette was pretty right on with the oranges. I accented the entire main level in burnt oranges and coppers.
I got Earthy Casual and it fits pretty well although I’m curious how different Earthy Modern is . . . that seems like it would fit too! Thanks for the quiz!
I posted this quiz on my blog back in August! I was an Earthy Casual – pretty spot on for me.
Mine was right on with Earthly Casual!

Mine is so spot on, it’s not funny!
You value order. You feel happiest if your home is well organized. You understand that when your house is in order, your mind feels clearer. I thought this was a fun quiz. I got “Country Classic” and I do think it rather fits me. I like timeless heirlooms and lots of pillows, which seems to be what the quiz said I would like!
it also gave some good tips for organizing knick-knacks which I have to admit is pretty helpful. I’m the kind of person who buys lots of little do-dads and then has no idea how to display them all together without them looking like a flea market on a shelf. So i did appreciate the tip about organizing the mish-mash.
thanks!!
Kinda shocked by my results, too…bohemian casual. The description sounds good, though!
Earthy Modern! It was right on point. My design challenge was Organize which is so true in our house…..
Earthy Modern :)
“You love mixing up different textures and are sensitive to the tactile qualities of objects.” YES!
“You value order. You feel happiest if your home is well organized. You understand that when your house is in order, your mind feels clearer.” Yes, yes yes!
Thanks for posting this, it was a lot of fun and now I am feeling inspired a bit to go decor and paint shopping. I just moved into a new place and am starting with not much. Everything so far is garage sale and Goodwill finds along with some hand me downs. Now I need to tie it all together with some paint, throw pillows, art and a chotchkie or two….I am READY~!! Wish my pockets were….
Christa, you are an Earthy Casual

mine was right on!! It said I was organized and country classic. It says I am willing to take risks, for instance my dining room is bright lime green! I enjoyed my results! I thought they fit me perfectly! Thanks for the test!

I also was tagged as an Elegant Classic and I think some of it is pretty spot on. While I’m not into having a formal layout or house in general, I do want it to feel calming and not too trendy. My value was serenity which I think more or less is right. And my design challenge was organize, which is so true! There’s just certain spots in our house that I can’t keep under control, grrr!
My happy colors were definately spot on…blue, greens and purples.
Earthy casual… We would never want our home to be overly glamorous. We like comfortable, yet chic.
This was perfect timing because I’m looking for a new sofa for my living room and having some dilemmas about what color and style will be most “me” and work best with what I already have.
I was Bohemian Eclectic. Not a title I would pick for myself, but the description is pretty much spot on. And the color palette was all yummy purply and greenish-blue – totally my colors.
I actually made my first venture into HomeGoods yesterday while I was out looking at sofa possibilities. I could do some serious damage to my bank account in that place!
I am BOHEMIAN ECLECTIC – totally true.
Same experience- I was labeled ‘Country Classic’, which seems off, but much of the descriptions in the results paragraph were fitting.
I love Home Goods! I can literally spend hours there. I took the quiz and got “earthy casual” which seems to fit me quite well. :)
I’m an EARTHY CASUAL, which looking around our home is very fitting!
I really thought the description sounded a lot like you guys too!
Earth causal…description fits me quite well but the title is a bit off. Casual yes earthy not so much
I LOVE these interactive quizzes! I’m such a visual person, so I hate the quizzes that are just straight questions with no “pick your favorite” options. I’m Elegant Classic as well! If only my house would reflect that…
My result was Bohemian Classic, and fits me and my house perfectly! The color scheme of the reds also matches my house as well – red is definitely the color I gravitate to throughout my house.
I enjoyed the quiz and reading my results – thanks for sharing!
I got Elegant Casual, too! I loved the suggestions. I don’t know that I’ve ever been to Home Goods, but I’m going to check it out!
I got earthy casual which seems accurate. The only thing that didn’t seem right was their happy color choices – lots of warm tones like gold and rust. I tend to like happy blues and greens.
Earthy Casual…EXACTLY!!!
This quiz seemed to get it all right…my style, value, challenge, happy place. And the colors they gave are what I’ve been planning for my new home…soft blues & neutrals.
Thanks for sharing; I needed bit of fun on this Monday morning!
My result was fitting, but like you, I was unnerved by the title of it. Anything with the word “country” doesn’t really appeal to me. But I was Country Casual. The best part of my description said, “You value comfort. Your home is a warm and open friendly place, and you feel happiest when everyone is cared for and relaxed in your space.”
Yes, please!
Earthy Casual. I think it’s pretty accurate.
I got Elegant Classic too, which is so totally NOT my style. Some of the others, like Earthy Modern or Bohemian Modern definitely fit more accurately. I love a combination of modern furniture and accessories with clean lines and vintage items with character and fun details. So elegant classic? Totally off.
This is the second time I have taken the Home Goods quiz. The first time I was labled Country Classic and the only part of Country Classic that I relate to is a welcome feeling. This time, the quiz labled me Earthy Casual, and the description was for the most part accurate, especially the parts about not following trends, handmade goods and encouraging people to relax and put their feet up. It also had good tips this time.
I got ‘Bohemian Eclectic’ too.
Which fits me perfectly. My apartment is a little dark and moody, filled with cheap thrift store finds, free and up-cycled furniture. (As much as I enjoy this blog, my style is about as far from ‘light airy beachy modern’ as you can get) The yellow orange colors they provided however, are kinda icky… Almost to neutral for my taste.
‘You have wide-ranging interests and influences and so appreciate a mix of styles, cultures, periods, and objects. You would never use a matching suite of furniture or want a home that seemed cookie-cutter. You have an artist’s eye that enables you to mix the old or the unusual with the new and modern. When traveling, you seek out unique objects that reflect what you love, and you use them in a sophisticated way. Your home is visually intriguing and comfortable, with a delightful mix of cozy chairs, ethnic fabrics, elegant pieces, hand-made items, even a little touch of quirk or humor, all of which gives your place a laid-back, Bohemian feel.
You value creativity. You are stylish and fun loving, and can be an inspiration to others. You have a natural sense of drama, and you know you have to be willing to take risks—whether with colors, finishes, furniture choices, or ideas—for your home to stand out. Your home can be happy and lively and the place all of your friends want to be.’
Color me “elegant classic” as well.
For someone who just decorated her family room in orange and turquoise: including an Ikea Unni Rand rug, pillows in Dewberry Tile (white octagons on orange…), 60s crocheted afghan (with orange, turquoise, white, and avocado squares…) and indigo denim slip-covered Ektorp couch and chairs, “elegant classic” is a bit puzzling… :D
I got Elegant Classic, too. I think its pretty fitting for me. :) Or should I say, its what I like, but not always what happens in my house. I’m more Child-Safe Classic. ;)
I’m Country Eclectic – which means I can’t make up my mind.
One friend says the quote that best suits me is “To decide or not to decide—That is the question!” So, I guess it fits. Or it at least fits my mood for the moment. Ah, crap—I’ve done it again!
