Pop Quiz: Ethan Allen
It’s been a while since we’ve enjoyed a fun little online “Find Your Style” quiz (like these ones from Sproost, Ikea and Creative Youniverse) so I went on a Googling spree this week and found a similar quiz from Ethan Allen, which you can take right here.
Like others before it, it uses your photo selections to calculate your “style type” and then dish up some appropriate inspiration photos. The spin on this one is that it plays like a fast word association game, but instead of words it’s a “pick the picture that grabs you first” kind of thing. It took us each a whopping 45 seconds to complete. Nice.
I was told my style is “Loft,” which is energetic, fashion-driven and practical. One look in my closet can tell you how off that middle descriptor is. But I do agree with appreciating functionality and industrial materials. And by “exploring” my style more (don’t forget to keep clicking to get to photos of rooms they think you’ll like) I got six “style portfolios” that fall under the Loft category – like the feminine Marzipan (thumbs down for me) or the clean West Side portfolio (thumbs up). Overall, it was definitely fun and many of the images and descriptions they pinned as “my style” were spot on.
Sherry, on the other hand, got “Global” which initially felt totally off (just look at her bare passport)…
But the notes about tropical touches (she does love a botanical) along with wood tones and natural fibers seem a bit more in line (plus the little thumbnails shown on the bottom of the screen grab above really did appeal to Sherry, so that was super accurate). And actually the room portfolios were pretty darn close as well. The most interesting part to me? Her secondary style was “Loft.” I guess Ethan Allen thinks we’re a good match.
Here’s that link again to take Ethan Allen’s What’s Your Style quiz. And as usual, we’d love to hear about your results and how accurate or off-base they may be. Have fun!

That was fun! I was Estate with Country House as my second. I think that’s fairly accurate, but I must saw that I really liked Villa too!
My style was Glamour and Villa. I hated glamour, but I do like demask. Villa was an improvement, but was a little too french country for my taste. I hoped I would find something I really like; my house really needs some help right now.
I live in a 130 year old Victorian cottage, with large, sparkly stain glass windows. It is a very small house, but charming. I only have room for practical, functional furniture. I have a preference for light, bring colors and painted wood.
So, I played…the first time I was global with glamour as second choice. The next time it was metro, with glamour, much more me.
Um, no. I took the quiz over and over – got estate 3 times and villa the 4th. Not a single one fits me and the inspiration they suggested after the quiz? All the rooms made me gag a little. Better luck next time, Ethan Allen.
Well, THIS is interesting. I came up “Villa” – which made me cringe, because I immediately thought of that totally overdone HGTV version of the “Tuscan” look. But…
This is what it said: “The verdict is in—your style is Villa. Villa is romance reinvented. A high-end “decorator” look. Refined without fuss. Serene yet strong. Pedigreed while also modern. Inspired by French and Scandinavian design. A mingling of carved woods. handcrafted artisanship, and the dressmaker detail.”
What did my daddy always say? Something like, “Honey, you’ve got champagne tastes on a beer budget” :) The part I think is really interesting, though, is that the Sproost quiz consistently pinned me down as “French Eclectic” and “Classic”. Over the last few months I’ve kind of started to refine it into an eclectic, Euro-inspired classic look. Anyway – funny that the Euro thing came out again.
Fun quiz!!! Thanks for the random entertainment :)

Well THAT was a surprise – Metro!!
Then again…I could live with that. :)
(Blogged about it here: http://aimeewrites.wordpress.com/2009/11/03/a-little-bit-metro/)
This was fun!
Metro fits me perfectly. “Chic, comfortable, clean and fearless blending of metal, woods, leathers, and wovens; minus the superfluous.”
I don’t like a lot of stuff– on one hand it really makes a house a home, on the other hand I see it and think it looks cluttered. Call me crazy, it’s all in my head.
Anyway, I love my leather club chair with a woven throw and a pillow that I got in Belgium. I also have a leather ottoman/coffee table that I love. I have a some metal mixed around the house and I love wood furniture, but I don’t have too much of it.
Gotta love a quiz!! :-) I got Loft, too. My second was Villa. I think they were both pretty accurate, but I’m so ecclectic (depending on the room and my mood) that they’d probably all work. I particularly like that both styles are fuss-free but leave a nice impact.
Thanks, as always, guys!!
I came up global and that suits me just fine! I have touches of Pompeii, Italy, Morocco, some Victorian, some traditional antiques, a bit of country, all with a Texas twist! It is all very livable, very lovable, and I wouldn’t have it any other way!
I got “Villa” which is “romance reinvented” with “carved woods, handcrafted artisanship, and the dressmaker detail.” I have no idea what a dressmaker detail is, but the rest of it sounds pretty ME. That’s cool because other style quizzes I’ve taken haven’t been very accurate. The subcategories are Verdigris and oh my gosh yeah, that’s me. I like clean and subtle but I’m not super sleek and modern. Blue and green botanical hues – HOW DID THEY KNOW? Those are my favs! Parfait – no, that’s not me. Too country-ish and slightly floofy. French Vanilla isn’t as good a fit as Verdigris but I like it too.
Thanks for the link! That was fun.
I think I have a problem! Each time I look at the picture I’m instructed to choose one that jumps at me. Each picture I see I think, “which one would Sherry pick?”
You would have thought that I got the same as her, but instead I got metro…gross! I guess I need to study up more carefully!
Hey Maggie,
No worries! We’ve actually learned that every time you take the quiz it serves up some completely different images so maybe your quiz was just a series of photos that I didn’t even get to choose from (which makes it no surprise that even if you played “what would Sherry pick” you wouldn’t necessarily get the same result that I got when I took it). Hope it helps!

The quiz is fun, but it seems incredibly random. Different image choices each time. The first time I took it, I got “Metro.” The second time I took it I got “Estate.”
Fun quiz, but the site’s navigation needs work after the quiz results. And how much does all this furniture cost?
I give Ethan Allen credit for apparently trying to spice up their image, though. I’m probably not alone in having a certain stodgy image of their product line, but they’ve apparently moved forward.
Fun link, though. Thanks for posting!
And I actually did see a floor lamp that was affordable – LOL.
I’m METRO and LOFT at second… Both fits, but I think a lot of other types would fit too. My style is mixing styles.
I love tests like this.
My results were country. I hated what they offered. Everything was gold and gaudy. Metro was my second. I did the quiz over and over (different pictures would pop up-interesting) and country kept popping up. Metro popped up the last time with country as my second choice. I just found the quiz interesting in how different pictures continually showed up and the results were the same.
My results were amazingly spot-on. My first style is Metro, which is totally me. I love clean lines, dark wood, contemporary pieces, platform furniture, etc. But my second style was glamour, which is also incredibly accurate! I love a good tufted headboard, mirrored table or bold damask just to make things interesting. Too bad none of Ethan Allen’s furniture is FSC certified or otherwise green. If it were, I might actually consider shopping there :|
It’s hard to take a quiz like that when neither of the choices they offer you are things you like. They told me I was “Loft” but I’m not, I’m antique country(my catagory, not theirs)all the way..
I get a different result every time I take it! LOL. Guess that explains why I usually call my style modern eclectic- I have touches of what they call metro, villa, and global in my place. :)

My style was Estate (hrmm….) and Glamour….wow! I didn’t see those comin’, but I was happy about it. I wonder how many different choices there are?
