Giving Thanks A Bit Early
Thanksgiving is still a few weeks away, but we’re breaking out the gratitude early for our monthly thankyouverymuch to all of our wonderful sponsors. After all, they’re the folks that keep YHL (and us Petersiks) up and running, so we’re quite appreciative of their support. And they’re great resources for a lot of super fun stuff, so we hope that you have fun poking around. Here they are in no particular order…
Oliver Fabrics is an amazing source for scoring high-end fabrics usually only available to designers and architects (they’re luxe and oh so drool-inducing). Explore their fabric samples, get inspiration from their blog or fall in love with their pillows. We might be especially guilty of the last one…
Z Gallerie has been a favorite of ours for a while – popping up in our house, a slew of mood boards, and even in giveaways – so you can imagine how thrilled we are to have them popping up on our sidebar. We’re already dreaming of a white, ceramic Christmas…
Shades of Light always provides us with great inspiration for lighting (and even rugs and other accessories!) thanks to their wide variety of delicious merch. Richmonders can even drop in and check ‘em out in person, and everyone else can order easily online with their fun interactive catalog.
The Glass Mosiac Outlet (aka Design for Less) is just pure eye candy. Especially if your tasty treat of choice is beautiful glass tile. Mmmm. We’d love for some of their mouthwatering goods to end up in our future bathroom update, that is if we can decide which ones to pick…
Garnish is perfect for those who believe that the right packaging is just as important as the right gift (it really does make all the difference). On their site you’ll find great ideas for gift baskets, party favors or entertaining – plus all the supplies you’ll need to present everything beautifully.
Frame the Date is another giveaway-turned-sponsor and we’re so happy they stuck around. Don’t forget to use the code YOUNGHOUSE to get 15% off any order (might we suggest a finely-framed anniversary, birthday or otherwise special date?). We just love personalized treasures like these!
WallQuotes.com needs no introduction. Score pre-designed (or custom!) vinyl wall decals to put your favorite saying somewhere that it can be enjoyed everyday… or where it’ll serve as a friendly reminder to your spouse, like below.
Lisa Leonard Designs offers beautiful, custom designed necklaces and bracelets that are each made from hand-cut, hammered, antiqued and polished sterling silver. She also offers a slew of great gifts for the impending holiday season, new moms and even that special man in your life.
Blend Creations creates the most original and modern stainless steel jewelry that we’ve seen in a while (I adore the mother of pearl earrings). You’ll find stylish necklaces, bold rings and even whimsical monster pendants like the one below (which benefits UNICEF, btw).
Quirk Gallery is one of our favorite spots for gift inspiration right here in Richmond. Whether it’s art, decor, jewelry, and loads of other fun stuff, they’ve rounded up quite an amazing collection of fabulous pieces at any price. And don’t forget that this is the last month to catch them as part of Antiques of Broad every other Saturday (both tomorrow and Nov 21).
Century Finds always gets us giddy because their fun vintage finds never cease to charm the pants off of us. This month we’re totally enamored with this Modern Design A – Z deck of prints. How posh would your little one be if he or she learned the alphabet along with a bevy of iconic designers?
Cardboard Safari doesn’t stop at just animals and skulls, they’ve also got plenty of festive cardboard creations for the holiday season. Celebrate fall with an autumn leaf wreath (you can even customize it with copper or bronze spray paint- wouldn’t that be amazing?) or get into the Christmas spirit with trees & snowflake wreaths (that you can glitter-fy or paint to your heart’s content).
Thanking all of the sponsors has been tiring, so thank goodness The Natural Sleep Store has organic bedding – like the mattress we’ve got in our bedroom – to help you sleep comfortably and eco-friendily (is that a word?). They teamed up with us after we boasted about how much we loved our new mattress, and we’re so glad they did!
So there you have our monthly roundup of the amazing companies and products that put food on the table and smiles on our faces (we love that they range from mom & pop business to nationally run companies and from local start-ups to pretty universally known names). We have so much to be thankful for, and we hope you guys enjoy getting to know our sponsors as much as we do! Especially with all that holiday shopping that we foresee in your future…

Hey Chelsea,
Isn’t Quirk so much fun? So glad to hear you’ve dropped in a few times! Katie is so nice, and she has such good taste (I always look at what jewelry she’s wearing because it’s usually for sale right at Quirk). And we’re so glad to hear that you already had fun shopping at Lisa Leonard Designs, Frame The Date and Z Gallerie. Isn’t picking out the perfect gift even more rewarding than unwrapping things sometimes?

Love the websites……..just managed to purchase a wall quote for the bedroom for $29 which includes shipping to Scotland……….wooohoooo.
Thanks for all the Links. I just sent my boyfriend a “wishlist” from Lisa Leonard. With birthday, holidays and even Valentine’s day looming out there, maybe I’ll get lucky!
Since your post about an eco friendly bed I am dropping hints to the hubby about getting a bed from The Natural Sleep Store. A customizable bed that’s good for the earth, yes please!
Since we’re giving thanks…I’d like to send a huge hug of appreciation to you two. It is so generous of you to share your creative ideas which I’m shamelessly copying and making my own. I’m new to your site but so far have added a magazine monogram, terrarium, lots of white on white frames and Mrs Meyers cleaners to my home – all thanks to you!
I’m seriously drooling over pretty much everything at Z Gallerie. We are getting our $8,000 first time home owener credit this month and I think I might just have the check forwarded there…lol
My mom and I just hit our local Z Gallerie yesterday. We drooled and made wish lists! I ended up with a beautiful white ceramic elephant that is very ‘modern’ looking (hubby is a big University of Alabama fan, thus the elephants). She ended up with two ceramic pheasants for the Thanksgiving table. They are having a great sale and we each got an iron and glass tray on sale for $15!!! Score! I’ll head back this weekend to pick up a pretty clock for her for Christmas. Love that store, and it truly does have something for everyone.
So glad to hear everyone is having fun dropping in on our sponsors! There’s just something about November that makes us want to go gift hunting all the time!

I can’t believe I just discovered Z Gallerie. I had always avoided going in because everything looks so expensive! But my BFF took me in there the other day, and I ended up with new white ceramic tray and cherry blossom sprig for around $20. I am sold! Can’t wait to go back and get a few Christmas decor items.
Ditto to Lesley! I shamelessly copy you guys as well sometimes. And can I just say that I LOVE that monster pendant? It makes me want to have a monster-themed room in my house! (Okay that might be an exaggeration.)
Do you think thos tiles could be used on the “floor” in front of a fireplace? I’m in the process of painting our fireplace white and I would like to do a simple tile project on the fireplace hearth to cover up the old 60’s looking faux stone that is currently residing in that space. Yuck!
Also, is that the tile that has the mesh on the back so all your have to do is basically cut the mesh to size and grout it?
Thanks in advance!
Hey Heather,
Just check if the tiles you have your eye on are labeled as “floor tile” or just “wall tile” (some tiles can’t stand up to foot traffic, but others can). If that info isn’t readily available definitely ask customer service along with inquiring about whether they’re mesh-backed (the site should also give you that info). They’d definitely look amazing with your fireplace so we’re hoping they’re perfect. Good luck!

I will absolutely check out all of your advertisers (I spend a great deal of time already at the glass tile outlet because I very desperately want a beautiful beach glass-inspired backsplash in my kitchen). Being in the publishing industry I know how important advertisers/sponsors are, and I love to see them see results, so I’m off to start clickin’!

Hey Ana!
Thanks so much! I’ll be in touch once I finish painting this pesky fireplace so I can match the tiles better! I have to go buy more paint this morning– brick sucks up paint like I’ve never seen!
Thanks!
Heather
Hi- I have checked out the Natural Sleep Store site since I am finally in the position to consider a mattress purchase.
Can you PLEASE give another specific update on what you love, would change, surprises you about your latex mattress purchase. Has the firmness changed at all…have you switched layer positioning.
Thanks very very much!
Haley
Hey Haley,
We did publish an update about a month into owning our mattress and we still feel exactly the same way. We love it. Wouldn’t change a thing. It’s actually one of our favorite purchases this year. Nothing has changed so it’s still the same supportive yet reasonably soft mattress that we got from the get go. We haven’t changed the order of the layers or anything like that, and nothing ever shifts around so it’s really low maintenance- just like a regular one-piece mattress.
Our only tip, which we mentioned in the follow up post, was that we suggest going with softer layers than you think you want because Dunlop rubber is naturally very firm, so even though we love a firm mattress, choosing two layers of medium and one layer of soft was the right mix for us. Definitely call to talk with a specialist before picking yours too, just to get that custom fit. Hope it helps!

Wow, thanks for the quick response. I am leaning towards 2 medium and one soft and a great night’s sleep. I spent $$$$$ money on a king “60% latex” mattress about 2 years ago from a local mattress store and it is now wayyyyy to soft. You donlt always get what you pay for!
BTW- I just LOVE your blog and the inspiration it provides! I often think what you guys when I am shopping for home items!
THANKS!
Hey Haley,
If you love a FIRM mattress then two mediums plus soft will be perfect, but since Dunlop latex never softens over time (not even a little) if you’re looking for something that’s medium firmness go for medium, soft, soft. Our bed is perfect for us but too firm for most people (we’re weird, what can we say?). Hope it helps!

I love your sponsors! I have been a visitor of Quirk Gallery several times (plus I house crash her house on occasion -thanks you you guys too!), I just recently clicked over to Lisa Leonard Designs and did some Christmas shopping. I wanted to win the Frame The Date giveaway, but instead I got a few gift ideas from there. And of course who doesn’t love Z Gallerie? Thanks for sharing!
