i love the punches of colors. Especially in the last photo - the color punch from the flowers tied the entire room in. That was a great shot.

Wow, thanks for your kind comments, everyone.

Lacey - I'm glad you like the bookshelves.
In fact, we have two whole walls of the living
room covered in bookshelves. We love books and
although the room is tiny, we love how cosy it is.

Kari - the house was built in the 1920s, as a
little holiday house by the bay. The water's
edge is just down the end of our street.

Sherry - We have 4 of the red chairs. They are
in fact new chairs produced by a local company
who will spray paint chairs to any colour you
want. We picked this upright design because the
chairs have multiple uses. They are used as
dining chairs as well as living room chairs.
When it's just us, we have two in the living
room and two at the dining table. When we
have visitors, the two from the living room get
used around the dining table.

Kim S - the plant in the basket is an orchid, but
I'm ashamed to say I don't know what kind cos
I've been bad at keeping records. Living in
the sub-tropics, we are able to grow orchids
year-round, in the shade of a tree in our garden.
The ones that are in pots are brought into the
house as they flower.

Mary - the tiles are not painted. They are
ceramic in that colour. The walls were painted
before the tiles were found.

Anne - the wall colour is Dulux "Middle Blue".
As usual, it really looks different on the
colour chart.

Dusa - I think you are talking about the
transome above the door to the bedroom. These
are standard in old Australian houses in the
tropics - lets the air flow through. They are
carved wood. However, the existing one over that
door was in such bad shape, my husband had a
new version laser-cut to replace the old one.

Thank you all again for your kind comments.
I do get cross occasionally about the lack of
space, but it is a special little place and we
love it.

Inquiring minds want to know if that is fabric or paper over the door (in the pic of the red chair). It appears to be in the 'before' pic, but really stands out once the teal is on the walls.

I'm wondering (in a rather chicken and egg sort of fashion) if she matched her colors to the tile stove surround or vice versa! At any rate - a FIRST rate job. I'm very drawn to this room, even though I'm not normally a fan of teal!

I love how the ceramic tiles are painted to look brick-red behind the built in fireplace. How clever.
