Reader Redesign: Board Member
When Christy over at Simply Dwell sent us pictures of her jewelry organization system it was too good not to share. Here’s her letter:
As a daily reader, I loved how Sherry posted her solution to organizing her jewelry. I am a fan of all things large and in charge when it comes to my baubles, so here is my way of putting them all in their place:
1. Take a store bought cork message board.
2. Sand then paint the trim dark brown.
3. Find a cute fabric and cut to size, then hot glue in place.
4. Buy coordinating ribbon and cut to size horizontally.
5. Pin ribbon in place with thumbtacks.
6. Screw cup hooks at the bottom for necklaces.
7. Attach a ribbon loop to hang from and ta-da!!
So far it is working very well. All of my earrings are out for me to survey every morning and my necklaces are clump free! Thanks for all the inspiration, and keep it up! -Christy
Isn’t that super chic and functional? We love that everything’s out in plain sight and it looks like pure art. Oh and that artichoke fabric is really fun, isn’t it? Thanks so much for sending your mini makeover our way Christy!

Since I have cats that love to steal jewlery for toys, hung shadowboxes on the wall – that way all the enticing “cat toys” are behind glass doors! This post couldn’t have come at a better time! I’ve been scoping out ideas on how to reorganize my jewelry (it’s all shoved in a drawer right now), and this idea totally fits the bill. I see a DIY project in my near future!

I actually looked at it last night and thought of you guys. It is a great project and let’s be honest. This makes it easy to keep up with jewelry because we know you cannot keep a jewelry drawer/box clean!

I do love that fabric! What a great system… I’ve been hanging my necklaces on hooks for a while and it has been great.
I recently bought a beautiful white pyrex mini-loaf pan at a thrift store, and it is the perfect size to store my bangles and bracelets. Now I just need to find more: I have too large of a collection!
I’m drooling at her earring collection- and what an easy to way to store them (no clumping)!

I love, love, love Christy’s jewelry system! For years, my jewelry has been jammed into a tiny jewelry box where it has become tangled and a mess. I am definitely adding this to my to do list!

Ooh la la! I love this idea and I love Christy’s fabric choice! Just this morning, I spent a good 10 minutes untangling one of my necklaces I was deteremined I was going to wear. If only I had something like this instead of a decorative wooden box from World Market to keep my necklaces and earrings clump and clutter free!
I’m so doing this! I’m tired of everything being lumped together in one huge ball of mess in my drawer! Thanks for the idea.

I LOVE THIS IDEA!!! sorry for yelling, I am just super excited about it, and it actually looks super easy! I am sick of rooting through my jewellery box to find everything a tangled mess. No more! Although this might tempt me to buy even more fun jewellery! :)

You know, I had a corkboard covered in fabric from my college days that I just threw out a month ago. I am totally kicking myself now because I need a better place to hang my jewlery.

Good idea. And I know I am late to comment but I was amazed at the magazine not to be named’s recent letter to you all and your resultant change in name. How stupid of them! I had actually recently bought their magazine only and solely because reading your blog made me think of them after not thinking of them for years. Silly, silly. They will live to regret it.
Great idea. When I find the time to recreate it, I think I’ll turn the board landscape so there is more room at the bottom to hang necklaces and bangles (I have more of these than earrings!).

Man, if my hubby hadn’t recently bought me a lovely, giant jewelry box I’d be all over this. Love the idea of being able to see all your accessories – I end up wearing the same stuff over and over cuz I can’t see everything I have!

Also, I just got engaged a few months ago and my ring has left my finger just once for a cleaning. It already feels like part of me!

Too cute! I’ve been wanting a nice jewelry armoire for a long time, but this looks like a fun project to tackle.
Amy at RI….good idea about turning it landscape for more necklace hooks. I even have a blank wall in my closet.
My daughter just moved to the city to a great 3 bedroom (shared)apartment-but her room is pretty small. This will be nice wall art and functional because of the very litle surface area!

I actually did the same thing for our placecards for our wedding reception. The venue had this great easel so I put everyone’s cards on corkboard covered with extra table runner material (paper source wrapping paper) tacked some ribbon on there and hung the cards up. Little crowded but people thought it was clever.
Great if the placecard table is near doors where a breeze could knock them over.

Great idea Christy! I was hoping to do something similar to display some cool vintage jewelry I have but don’t ever wear- only I was going to put it in a shadow box so that I can hang it in my baby girl’s nursery and nothing can come off and be a choking hazard. I was thinking scrapbooking paper with ribbon but the fabric you found is so cute!
Love it! You can also use window shutters and put tons of hooks on there. You can do the front and back and attach the shutter so it actually swings in your closet! I have that and I love it!!

I think I will definetely do one for myself. I like crossed ribbons on fabric but the earrings might fall off like this. By the way, there’s not any way to hang/put little earrings on this board right?

These are a life saver- I have made something similar for friends and myself. Just head to AC Moore or similar craft store- most have these sturdy plastic mesh place-mat sized things (in a variety of colors!) and pick up an unfinished wood frame. Paint or stain the frame any color, cut the mat to fit inside and hot glue it in.. TA DA! You can also add the necklace hooks to the bottom for more versatility. I hang mine up like any piece of art in my bedroom.

Sevi, maybe you could use ribbon that’s not too tightly woven for one of the horizontals, don’t pin it completely flush to the board, and then you could push small studs etc through that and you’d have room to pop the backs on them to keep them in place..?
Excellent idea, I have hooks on the insides of my wardrobe doors which does me fine for bracelets & necklaces (& even belts) but this is very pretty, and a fab way to keep those earrings in view too!

I love this!!! I made mine yesterday and it is beautiful.. now I can show off my pride and joy which is my jewelry.. especially now that I am getting into beading. It looks like art on the wall now instead of a tangled mess :)
