Fab Freebie: Delight Box
***This giveaway is no longer accepting entries***
Sherry and I always love browsing through those quirky little gift stores that every town seems to have (Richmonders, think Mongrel in Carytown). We’re always bound to come across an eclectic assortment of smartly designed trinkets that inevitably make us think “Oh, this would be a perfect gift for XXXX.” Well, Delight.com is pretty much the online version of that fun shopping experience and we’re thrilled to have them sponsoring this week’s giveaway!
We loved that Delight.com organizes their products by theme (“Luxe!“), occasion (“Engagement and Wedding“) and even type of recipient (“The Traveler“). They even have a special focus on eco-friendly products, which always scores major points with us. And in case you’re the type who just likes to learn about fresh new swag, they highlight a fun, new product every day (and even throw in a special 24-hour discount). So in that generous spirit, they’re giving away two of these modern metal toolboxes from Alice Supply Co. (available in a slew of different colors and patterns) to two lucky Young House Love readers. How’s that for DIYing in style?

- TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “DELIGHT ME” and…

DELIGHT ME!
One of the quirkiest wedding gifts we got was a handmade wooden bread bowl. At first I thought it was ugly but now I like it … it makes the best fruit bowl!
delight me!
DELIGHT ME!
my BFF once gave me a graphic tee that had red sparkly shoes and the words ‘shoes to die for’ on it. quirky for sure.
p.s.
these toolboxes ARE to die for!
DELIGHT ME
The best, unexpected gift, was from my best friend’s Mom in high school. Her Mom made us sewing kits complete with everything from threat to needles to seam rippers. Little did I know that thing would come in handy for YEARS.
Delight me please!!
DELIGHT ME!
A co-worker gave me a banana guard this year. It’s kind of pornographic.
Delight Me!
Oddest gift I ever received was a book theorizing on the murders of Tupac and Biggie. Not only do I not listen to rap music, but it was kinda creepy!
DELIGHT ME!
Quirkiest gift? Crotched dish rags. At least I think they were dish rags. Maybe pot holders? Not sure.
Delight me! The quirkiest gift I got was a huge, angry looking frog paperweight. To this day, I can’t throw him away (b/c the gift-giver is dear to me) but can’t figure out what to do with him! :)

Strangest gift was a large plastic rock from my sister for my 12th birthday. Still have it!

DELIGHT ME
Strange gift – “Pilates for Weight Loss” from a sister in law. I had not said I wanted it, nor that I was looking to loose weight. I still don’t know what to make of it.
DELIGHT ME.
The quirkiest gift I ever received was a giant wooden spoon from the ’70s. It has now become a roving White Elephant gift :-)

DELIGHT ME!
The strangest ‘gift’ I’ve ever received was … at our wedding, a friend from New York flew out to celebrate with us – which was amazing – but as a “surprise” they also flew out their friend. Who we (the bride and groom) had never met. So this stranger could celebrate our wedding with us. Because our friends thought we’d really like said stranger.
Still not sure what made that sound like a good idea!
DELIGHT ME!
Went to fiance’s mom’s side-of-the-family for Christmas in Sweden and his quirky aunt gave us kama sutra massage oils…which we opened in front of everyone.
AWKWARD.
DELIGHT ME!
Hmm, quirkiest gift… I don’t know! I am usually very un-subtle about giving hints, so I usually get something I’ve mentioned before!

Delight me! YAY!
For my birthday a few years ago, I received a handmade, ceramic depiction of the ressurection of Jesus. His eyes follow you, wherever you go. And he lights up. It was a very thoughtful and well-meaning gift – definitely made with love…but definitely NOT something I will keep on display in my house!

DELIGHT ME!!!
The strangest gift I ever received was from my aunt. When I was young I liked Winnie the Pooh and I guess she never realized that as I got older, I might change my likes and dislikes. I got a Winnie the Pooh lamp for my 16th birthday.
DELIGHT ME!! I want, I want! The gift that most surprised me was a gift certificate to a men’s shoe store from my boyfriend (now husband!). He thought it was the place that I got my shoes, but obviously he wasn’t paying attention :) I was able to return the gift card because the manager said it gave him a good laugh!

DELIGHT ME!
My dad gave me University of Texas memorabilia for Christmas a few years back. My husband and I were living in Tennessee at the time and I was in grad school, and he said he thought we needed some things to remember our home state by. However, neither of us actually WENT to the University of Texas, and the stuff he gave me was likely bought at a garage sale and consisted of women’s golf shoes with a longhorn embroidered on them and a UT koozie with a HUGE “Hook ‘em” shaped hand protruding off it.
Needless to say, we no longer have this stuff around. Sorry, Dad. :)
Delight me!
My grandma gave me a denim overall dress in high school. I cried and then made her return it and buy me Abercrombie sweater instead (which was what she gave everyone else!) Can you say black sheep of the family?
Delight me! The strangest gift I’ve ever gotten was an ENORMOUS Micky Mouse t-shirt when I was 18.
DELIGHT ME! The quirkiest gift I’ve ever received was shampoo and conditioner (his and hers) for a wedding gift with a note that read “Here’s to a lifetime of great hair” from our friend, a daughter of a hair stylest.
DELIGHT ME

DELIGHT ME!
The weirdest gift I ever got was one of those pasta-cooker-cylinder things. I thought it magically used conduction or something to boil the water, but nope, you add the boiling water to it…therefore messy-ing 2 vessels instead of one. Yeah, never used it.
Delight Me!
DELIGHT ME!
for my college graduation, my sis & bro-in-law got me a wooden box purse with a hand painted teal cat on it that’s labeled Glamourpuss in sleek cursive. i LOVE it!
Delight me!! One year my dad gave me a 4-10 shotgun for Christmas… I had asked for a stereo and I don’t hunt or shoot things.
It would really really really DELIGHT ME to win this toolbox!! I am new to home renovation and have begun a small collection of household tools of my own which would look lovely in one of these. Can’t say I’ve ever gotten a bad gift. I must be lucky!
DELIGHT ME!!
For Christmas a few years ago, before I lived in a place that allowed dogs, I was talking how much I wanted a pug. Well, my dad went out and bought be one of those robotic, sleeping dogs. It looks like a pug sleeping and just lays there but you can see it “breathing.” It’s so creepy. I had no idea what to say.
DELIGHT ME! I couldn’t think of a really quirky gift given to me – but my great aunt gave large print Reader’s Digest issues as gifts, which was pretty funny.
Delight me!
I received a chocolate wax ring..yes the wax rings used to set toilets. It was made of chocolate, marshmallow and peanut butter and shaped exactly like a wax ring. Odd? Yes
Delicious? Definitely
Delight me!
My grandma once found a very large white ceramic elephant at the dump that had a broken ear and she took it home fixed it and painted and then gave it to me. I actually grew to love it and now it is in my little girls nursery.
Delight me! I once received a book about sharks as a birthday gift when I was in college. I had no interest (nor had I ever expressed remote interest) in sharks.
Delight me!
The oddest gift I can think of was a kitchen gadget my husband and I got at our wedding shower. The gift was an “egg beheader”. It looks like some sort of torture device – it’s a ring with sharp teeth that pop out when you close the scissor-like handles together. My understanding is that they’re much more common in Europe, and used to take the top off of soft-boiled eggs – but my husband and I were really confused when we opened the gift (in front of everyone, of course, as part of the wedding shower entertainment).
Delight me!
DELIGHT ME!
The infamous ‘Tater Twister’ has to be the strangest gift we’ve ever received.
DELIGHT ME
We got a large 20 x 30 picture of Elvis on black velvet!
Delight Me!!!
Delight Me!!
I will say that the oddest gift that I have ever received was stamps. Not like a collectible kind or anything… just plan stamps. Got to love grandmothers friends!
Delight Me…. Pretty Please?!
Delight me!
I’ve never recieved an oddball gift, but I HAVE to tell you about the one my friend got a couple of months ago. Her mother-in-law is a very staid, conservative woman, so we were all shocked when she opened up a gift box from her which contained a modern sculpture of a man and woman in an X-rated position! No one knew what to say, or if the giver even knew what it was. A very uncomfortable few moments followed, but worse it that my friend is sure her mother-in-law expects it to be displayed!
PLEASE DELIGHT ME!
