Window Shopping: Target Rocks My Socks
Ever since we photographed our way around Target’s Home Design Event back in January, we couldn’t wait to break out the camera again when the moment was right. Well last night we couldn’t help but declare that it was time for another photo sesh. Here’s what we’re loving…
First we have these awesome fabric covered canvases with gold printed feathers on them. Not New-Jersey-Circa-1991 gold (I would know, I was rocking it back then) but more like a soft hammered metallic golden tone that’s slightly distressed and oh so lovely. And your eyes don’t deceive you. They’re just $14.99 each and come in two serene subtly different bottom-of-the-sea hues.

And right next door there were these glittering turquoise candle holders (both extra large for $9.99 and itty bitty for around $2) that would add another splash of saturation to any space. Just imagine them with a flickering candle inside…

Then we came across this amazing woven mirror. At $59.99 it’s no drop in the bucket but just picture this hanging in a beachy bathroom or leaning above a whitewashed fireplace mantel. It has make-the-entire-room potential. I seriously have it bad for this thing.

This fun oversized brown and white giraffe pillow ($24.99) also caught our attention, especially paired with the yellow and white accessories above it. Love that color scheme and the fresh summery feeling it would add to any space.

And then there were these sweet little new-grass-green and sunshine-yellow votive holders (which would also look delightful with brown and white accents). And at $2.99 it’s easy to snatch up a slew of them to line the center of a dining table or even pop one in every windowsill for the summer- wouldn’t that be sweet?

But wait, there’s more green and yellow goodness and this display actually took us back to our lemon and lime riddled backyard wedding (complete with recycled green glass wine bottles that we repurposed to serve beverages). Concidently, that awesome oversized green bowl that you see below is actually made from recycled glass (as are the amazing hurricanes on the shelf above it) and at $29 for the giant statement making bowl (how sweet would it be filled with lemons or even clementines?) it’s an easy way to dress up a coffee table, dining table or even your kitchen counter in one fell swoop.

We also noticed these $9.99 frames and couldn’t help but think how cute they’d look in any kids room (I could see a combination of pink, yellow and green ones lined up on the ledge in Olivia’s room).

These $19.99 storage ottomans (that price isn’t a typo) would definitely add interest and a pop of hue anywhere from a kids room or a dorm to an upscale living room (two of the turquoise ones could be slipped next to each other under a console table for storage and style to spare).

And one of these little bird friends ($12.99) would look so cute as an all-weather centerpiece on an outdoor patio table or even next to a planter by the front door for a bit of asymmetrical interest.

We even slipped through the baby aisle (don’t get any ideas, two of John’s sisters are preggers) and couldn’t help but admire Dwell’s line of bedding, towels and other textiles- so cute for a boy (blue elephants!) a girl (pink birds!) or an I-don’t-know-yet (green and yellow polka dots!).

And for the slightly older crowd, these “chalk dots” ($29.99) were a pretty fun concept. They can be slapped on any wall over and over again (they’re peel and stick but they can be removed without damage and reused in another spot) to create instant round chalk boards for messages, love notes, and spontaneous wall doodling. The beauty of the clean round shape is that they’d work just as well in a kids room as a pantry door in a posh kitchen.

So that’s what we’re drooling over these days. How about you? Any favorite pieces from the holy shopping grail that is Tarjay? Do tell.

I am in LOVE with those chalk dots. I am having to hold myself back from running out of my work cube to the nearest Target to snatch them up :)

Hey Sherry!
Those recycled green glass hurricanes, lemon trees, and all of the cute vintage-y style melamine dinnerware (basically the whole display!) was on sale for 50% off at my local Target last night… which probably means it will be on sale your way pretty soon or even today!
I picked up a set of eight cups, bowls, dinner and lunch plates plus a large tray to carry it all on for about $40. Plus two large hurricanes. Neat!
Rebekah,
That is the most exciting thing I’ve heard all day. Thanks so much for the tip!

I’ll only leave my house on your cue! Yellow with Green is such a fresh look for summer – a season we are way too familiar with in Texas! I’ll definitely be scooping up one of those recycled glass bowls for my kitchen counter, and probably scoring some cool new stuff for our son’s room (he’s 5 months old). I love it, love it, love it!
LOVE any of the green! I have been drooling over the green lemonade dispenser thing for a month!!! The chalk dots are awesome too!
This is my most recent Target steal, about $50 w/shipping.

I really want some hanging votive holders. C&B has some on sale now but the Target ones would be cheaper!
Totally fun shopping trip thru Target w/ you Sherry & John! I LOVE everything you picked out. I would scoop up a lot of it, if finances permitted. [Right now, we're on a strict $$ diet. So far, so good. I realized I haven't even STEPPED FOOT in either of my local Targets since MARCH. I can't believe it.]
But, I have been yard-sale-ing a lot this summer, and I’ve found some amazing treasures at rock-bottom prices.
So, although I’ve had to put Target (& Home Goods, PB outlet, etc.) aside for a few months, I’m happy to report that I’ve found the following amazing deals around my home in Loudoun County, VA (just about 30 miles outside D.C.)
An almost new $300 Coach purse — $40
Two white wooden decorative wooden columns (5 ft tall) — $4
10 grey voile curtain panels from Ikea — $10
5 cotton curtain panels from Ikea (b&w flowers) — $5
(both sets of panels extra long for my 9 ft ceilings)
almost new Krups stainless steel coffee maker — $6
mini trampoline — $6
large, oversized b&w “train station” clock — $8
And that’s just an abbreviated list. I’m telling you, people, yard sales RAWK!
Can’t wait to get back to Target & score some of their cool stuff for the casa, but in the meantime I’m enjoying the thrill of the hunt.
XO, Katy
I drooled over this stuff Tuesday night…. and Target is extra high on my list right now, I purchased bamboo shades for only $15.99 each when I was expecting to spend around $30 apiece. Whoo-hoo! I didn’t actually buy any of the green/yellow stuff because I’m trying to rein myself in when it comes to buying on a whim – I end up with way too many different colors/styles. I’m trying to keep things simple and consistent. Have a great weekend you two :-)
I was at Target yesterday and fell in love with all those items as well! When I came upon the lemon tree, the first thing I thought of was…you guys! lol. My exact thought was “Sherry and John would love this!” I snatched it at 50% off, so about $8! What a deal…
I’ve been admiring the vintage lemony stuff for a month or two now and they are on sale at our Targets as well. During my last trip to Target I saw the yellow vases you posted above and love them but I don’t really have yellow anywhere in my house anymore. Maybe that’s a good thing!
Thanks for this! I’m going to Target after work now!
We are re-doing our guest room in black/white/gray with pops of turquoise/teal and I need to snatch me up one of those feather canvasas and a teal ottoman!
I hope to send y’all pics of the finished product because we did some amazing things with my husband’s seriously old (but very sturdy) furniture set and some black spray paint.
Ooh that sounds awesome! Definitely send us pics!

It’s SUCH a good thing Target isn’t close to me! I bought some of the melamine plates with the fern and flowers on them and have no idea what I’m going to do with them. I just loved the colors and prints! All this talk of 50% off has me itching to make a trip there. Darn you, internet!
Wow! I haven’t been to Target in a while (the closest one is about 2 hours away – gotta love living in North Idaho!). I love the baby stuff. It’s too cute! Just might need to make a trip up there in the next nine months…. ;)
I try not to go into tarjay unless absolutely necessary… I cant come out of there without spending too much money. im addicted to all things target.
love that green recycled glass stuff though… will be keeping an eye out for that to go on sale!
Look on Amazon for different shapes of chalkboard panels and cheaper price. I got 4 panels 5X& for $12 and free shipping!
I picked up those green and cream melamine plates a few months ago and have hung them around the border of my kitchen. They are so cheery and for about 15 plates I only spent $25!
I have those $20 ottomans, and I do like them. They are however, kinda low quality in look and in form. But for $20, can’t beat it and still got them and using them.
be still my heart! I’m sooo on the way to Le Tarjay to pick up stuff this afternoon, might have to take home some cute yellow accents for the living room that is in transition but heading toward brown and citrus accents with pops of white!
I just need to say I HEART TARGET. I have a store about 6 minutes from home and work and another in between, so I am a frequent visitor. I have a few of the green recycled glass votives on a bookshelf and they’re adorable. Also, a while ago I picked up 4 Orla Kiely placemats and I don’t know how I existed before them =) I see a matching utensil holder in your pics but I haven’t spotted that in the store.
Gah! Why must you taunt me so!
Great finds…I sooo wish there were a Target anywhere near me. Or even anywhere in Canada, pretty much.
My faves are those leaf prints and the yellow bud vases.
A great place to find glass mosaic candle holders, votives, sconces and many other accessories is Kirkland’s home decor store. They have a great selection of mosaic items at awesome pricing (usually better than Target).
I love, love, love those yellow accents!!!! I’m trying to figure out ways to spruce up my office at work, without looking too casual, and I think those are perfect!
We need Targets in CANADA!!!!!! :(
I saw the canvas paintings a couple of weeks ago and ABSOLUTELY love them….trying to figure out where in my house I can put them so I can buy them!!!
Target has to be one of my FAVORITE places to unwind (sans my two-year-old and “let’s-hurry-it-up” hubby!!)…there is something very inspiring about walking those aisles–and finding such great deals on fantastic design to boot!
One of my other places to frequent nowadays is Pier One. They have a new buyer who is doing a FANTASTIC job of filling the shelves with unique, colorful eye candy. It’s almost too hard to take everything in with one trip–
As a former art director (now teaching high school art and yearbook), I savor these places where “design within reach” becomes a reality! If only I could have a deep pocket book to take along with me…. :)
BUT, I have to say that visiting your Web site has become a new source of “eye candy” for me–thank you for sharing your design talents with us. Your light-hearted, witty writing, can-do attitude and budget-minded spending is refreshingly unpretentious. It’s a joy to click over daily to see what you’ve posted!
Keep up the fantastic work!
Blessings,
Kristin

i fell in love with the gold feather prints when i saw them last week. the hubs and i were looking for prints for our bedroom and living room but he said they were too loud. they sure would look super cute in our dog’s room though…hmmm
Oooh, I want those green votive holders. I may have to head to Target to snag a few of those suckers.
Oh WOW! I was just in my local Target last night and fell in LOVE with the tall yellow and short white vases!! Target has always been one of my favorite stores. Now I just need to figure out where to put those lovely vases!
I love Target!!
Ok, this post will not be good for my marriage! When I have to do a “Target” run, my husband says, “Why, because you haven’t been there in a week?” And sometimes, I get in what a call a “Target trance” where I go to look at something and end up pushing around someone else’s cart. Yep, it has happened more than once!
I love the teal & gold canvas. I actually saw it last time and debated for a long time about it. I think I may grab it. It is the prettiest thing I’ve seen in stores in a long time.
Thanks for enabling my Target addiction!
I love Target! I was just there today, window shopping for our first home (we close on Monday EEEEEE!). I saw those chalk dots and made a mental note to go back and get them. They would be perfect for my boys!
I went to Target this afternoon to check out the new wares–aside from all the cute home decor I didn’t realize they now sold Aveda hair products (and some other nice brands). I thought that was pretty neat and convenient. Tarjay may just take over the world.
I was there today and saw some of those lovely things. And, I scored my own green glass hurricane for under $10. Now, if the website would just shoot the same deal!
I am in love with those yellows and greens. Must have those birds. Fabulous finds friends.
Kate
I bought one of those turquoise “candle holders” from Target to hold the toilet paper in my bathroom! I was inspired by your glass toilet paper holder and when I went to Target to get one for myself, those were there, matched my bathroom better, and were cheaper! Thanks!
I’m so disappointed! We just returned from a trip to Target, and ours had NONE of the cool things everyone has been discussing. The “seasonal” section was the normal dumb ol’ outdoor furniture and pool stuff. We did find some cute metal stools in the regular decorating aisles, but I was supremely disappointed.
Sherry, it is now official that I need to lay off of your blog…..
How funny is this!!! I feel like I am having total deja vu. I was just in Target today and totally stopped and looked at every single display that you have listed down to the baby aisle! We are having our little girl in a couple of weeks and I was totally checking out the yummy chocolate bedding. I even thought of your wedding when I saw the lemon and lime display. Your ears must have been ringing!
I was in Target today and almost bought the giraffe pillows and the white vases. Unfortunately, I decided to wait and see if I still want them next week. I probably will but am learning to control my spending habits. ;)
Thanks for the awesome window shopping trip! Love it!
Oh Tarjay… I have cut back on the number of trips I’ve taken there, but have seen all these awesome items — the store is dangerous!
In response to Julia who bought the rattan cube shaped end table thing for 50 with shipping – we got it for 10 at a target b/c someone returned it after buying it (their loss, our gain!!) – we use it as an end table in our house and I would love to have another one….they are so nice. Yay target!
I got an end table at Target the other night for 50% off. It’s square, wood with a metal base. I think I’m going to go back to get another.
I will definitely check out the chalk dots. What section are they found in?
I love Target!
Hey SoBella,
They’re actually in the section with all the framed art and clock and stuff. In our Target it’s a few aisles away from the one in the front with all the new decorative stuff (right next to the one with all the Smith & Hawken stuff- the planters, wreaths, faux-orchids, etc). Hope it helps! Happy hunting…

I scored that large green recycled glass bowl at my Target yesterday for $15! Love it and can’t wait to fill it up with something…just not sure what yet. It’s now in the middle of my kitchen table.
It’s funny you chose that mirror as well. We purchased it several weeks ago, and it is currently hanging in our dining room. A quick trip through Target and Ikea, and our dining room got a lovely little face lift!
Thank you so much for pointing out the chalk dots!! They were the perfect thing to finish off my kitchen redo! Now I feel a little safer when I go for long runs, I can now leave messages for my roommate.
OMG I was just going to do that on my blog last week. I came across this aisle that had blue, blue, BLUE! It made me want to totally redecorate. Love target!
in that very aisle i saw a knock off of those awesome french metal stools in creamy white enamel. http://tinyurl.com/mrnzd3 it was 40 bucks, which is totally my max but i couldn’t leave without it. so cute.
Ahhhhh….Target. The other love of my life! I bought the rattan mirror in your post for my downstairs bathroom (for the house we are building). I can’t wait to see how it looks but the house decor I’ve picked out so far has a very coastal-chic feel to it….by the way my friend also snagged it last week at our local target for $40 on sale!
~Great website, I’ve enjoyed all your ideas!
Feel free to do another target trip :)
I’m a Target lady! It’s hard to nail down my favorite Target find but I do have an awesome red toaster oven from Target that I love.
