Will Joust For Votes
The voting for BHG’s 48-Hour Challenge is in full swing and we’re back with our weekly remember-to-vote post. We’re currently in second place and we need your help! Of course you all recall that we gussied up our front porch as part of their 48-Hour Challenge, and now there’s a $5,000 bonus on the line for the blogger who earns the most votes for their project. Imagine how many home improvements we could take on with that wad of dough.
But how could we ask you fine people to spend a moment of your time voting each and every day until June 12th without going the extra mile for you in return? Betcha didn’t expect that we’d get oiled up and take to the American Gladiator arena for votes…
That’s right, we’ve been training day and night- check out my muscular thighs and John’s impressive moobs (man boobs). We’ve even brainstormed our very own decor-related gladiator names. From this point on John shall be known as Demo and I’ll go by Houndstooth. Grrr.
In short: just follow this link, click the arrow til you see our names/porch, register (just once and never again) and vote each and every day if you so desire. That’s right, everyone can vote once a day until June 12th. And since they update the voting tally each day, it’s safe to say that when we’re not firing foam balls at each other or knocking people off pedestals with giant pokers we can be found on the edge of our seats!

I’ve been voting for you daily, I simply cannot wait to see what other projects you’ll come up with! My friend and I were talking the other day and wondering how much you could have left to do with the house- it already looks so great? I know you’ll always come up with something creative and by time you finish everything it will be time to start over again. We just don’t want to see you guys run out of “material”- EVER!

It’s so funny that so many people worry that we’ll run out of stuff to do. We’ve come to realize that our house will never really be finished since it keeps evolving- and if you could see our to-do list you’d never worry again. We have big plans for a major bathroom overhaul and we want to retile the living room’s fireplace hearth (which is currently just terra cotta tile that we painted white and coated with polyurethane for protection until we can upgrade). We also have a big back patio makeover in the works as well as a veggie/cutting garden project and we have the most boring hallway ever that leads to the bedrooms so we want to create floating shelves and do a little hallway transformation as well as finish our completely unfinished basement (yes, we have a secret basement that we never talk about below the sunroom). Of course there are a million other things on our list (paint horizontal tone on tone stripes in the half bathroom, paint the closets a fun contrasting color, try our hand at grasscloth wallpaper, get a new roof one of these days, upgrade our builder bathroom faucets and dated doorknobs, etc). In short, our list is looong. Thanks again for your vote and stay tuned for tons of fun…

Oh my! That picture made me snort and laugh out loud…at work! I am glad I share my office with one other person (she did look at my like I had lost my mind!).

I have to be 100% honest, I wasn’t going to register with them. But then you went and posted the American Gladiator thing, AND used the term “moobs” in a post. You made me laugh out loud.

It makes sense not to paint a propane tank black. Black tends to absorb rather than reflect sunlight, i.e. heat. Think about it… big, bada, boom.

i voted for you guys!! its the least i could do! your make your own headboard worked out so well for me. i was going to spend so much on a new one that i didn’t even like but then i found your site and bought awesome fabric and the whole thing came out so fast and so nice. hope you guys win :o)

I think part of the reason Making it lovely is getting a lot of votes is because you can subscribe via email on her site… have you guys considered that? I mean, I look at your site every day, but I’d like an email subscription so I get something in my email too! ;)

Thanks for the suggestion! We’ve actually always had email subscriptions available through the “subscribe” tab near our search box on the top of our sidebar. Thanks to your comment we did realize that it seemed more geared towards subscribing though a reader, so we changed the description when you click on it thanks to your helpful hint- so hopefully it’s easier to find from here on out!

In two different posts now you’ve said that “we can be found on the edge of our seats,” and both times I expected to scroll down and see a picture of you two sitting on the edge of that lovely bench on your front porch… :)

It’s so funny that you say that because we’re just so jittery and excited about the voting that we completely missed the opportunity to pose on the end of the bench for ya. Here’s hoping we can calm our nerves and stage a photoshoot sometime soon!
