Who doesn’t love candelight? The soft glow, the romantic mood, the fire hazard… wait, forget that last part. Well, you can literally forget about that last part thanks to the bright minds behind this week’s giveaway from Smart Candle. Their flameless candles take the mess and worry out of setting the mood at your next dinner party, couple’s night in or spooky séance (if you’re into that sort of thing).
We were a smidge skeptical of these faux candles at first, but after receiving a set to take for a test-run, we were pleasantly surprised. The rechargeable LED light has an incredible way of flickering so randomly that you’d have almost no idea they weren’t real. Plus, their tea-light size means you can drop them into just about any of your existing votive candle holders if you ever need a change from the modern, frosted glass cups that Smart Candle provides (or even some cool luminary bags to line your front walkway). They’ll even look great in your windows during the holidays.

I love shopping for name brand clothing, but hate paying full price. I always shop at TJMAXX and Marshalls for them and always get the best deals. I guess thats a form of faking it, n’est pas?

I’ll fake it — although I’m not sure I’ve used fake anythings before. Oh–wait! Our outside-the-kitchen deck is re-done in some kind of plastic “wood.” It looks great and I wish we had the $$ to re-do all of the outside decking like that.

I’ll fake it! I have a fake Christmas tree. I used to LOVE going and picking out a fat, prickly Christmas tree from the nearby lot… until one Christmas when my dog peed on it because she thought she was outdoors, it fell over breaking several vintage ornaments, and water leaked out of the bottom tray, staining my hardwood floors. My husband made the point that it would be much greener to just purchase a fake X-mas tree and re-use year after year, skip all the work and cost, and just enjoy. While I still love visiting my parents’ house around the holidays to smell their real piney smell, my fake tree suits me just fine for now.

I love Nantucket baskets and Shaker boxes. Can’t afford either but I found some faux Nantucket baskets at Joann Fabrics (under $10 with coupon!) and a Shaker-esque box or two at Target for about the same amount of scratch.
Sometimes the fake is better than the real. I have to agree with Erin, above, about laminate flooring. I’d rather have that than hardwood, if I’m the one who has to clean them.
