We Do Love A Challenge…
We’re super excited to be a part of the 48-Hour Challenge with Better Homes & Gardens and Home Depot. Here’s the deal, Home Depot and BHG selected five of their “favorite home and garden bloggers” (we’re blushing) “to create clever weekend projects for outdoor living using $500 in materials from The Home Depot.” I know! We’re still pinching ourselves. Feel free to pop over to BHG.com and read more about the challenge, oh and you’ll see that our lovely friend Nicole over at Making It Lovely is also in on the action. Fun, fun, fun! We’re actually both sprucing up our front porches so of course we can’t wait to see what she has in store for her gorgeous home.
Speaking of in store, we’ve already done a quick run-through of Home Depot (a la Supermarket Sweep) and picked up some fun little starting point pieces. Although we recently tried to spruce up our porch on a dime with old spray painted chairs and new painted wood planters, we’re about to take porch pimping to a whole new level. Here’s just a sampling of the stuff that we’ve already grabbed and stashed in our sunroom (of course there will also be penny pinching building and painting projects so stay tuned…)
And because we love a good hint (or four), it’s safe to say that our new porch plan includes: some rockin’ new seating, painting between the lines, a bit of a Burger zone, and a 2 minute make-your-own-side-table tutorial.
We can’t wait for our big two day transformation that’s sure to be full of sweat and maybe even some tears of joy (hopefully no blood if we can help it). Throughout April we’ll be blogging on BHG.com about our project preparation and our plan of attack, and then in early May comes the big reveal! Stick around for weekly updates and all the dirty DIY details.

Those pillows are from Home Depot?!? I didn’t see those at my HD stores…I may have to go back! If you read my blog you’ll see that I’ve been trying to find the perfect GREEN pillows for my back patio and I *love* the patterned ones you show above.
Yup! The three pillows piled on the daybed are all from our local Home Depot (one was even $6 on sale!). They have a ton of great stuff out for spring and summer, and we can’t wait to pull everything together! Is it May yet? We can’t wait to share our big porch project!

Yeah we can’t even think about the $5,000 bonus right now because we’re so crazy excited about our $500 transformation (really, we dream about it!). Obviously the 5K would mean a lot more home improvement and DIY projects for us to share, so of course we’d be over the moon about that possibility too…

Well this is just plain fun! Man, $500 to play with? What a terrific deal for ya’ll to use **someone else’s dough** to showcase ideas that were probably swimming around in your young little heads anyway! Sam and I are really excited for you both! Congrats and good luck!

Did you guys make yourselves a mood board?
Hey Jamie,
We’ve actually been cobbling together a mental mood board for a while now (along with about a million lists- we’re such list people) but time will tell whether we’ll actually create a true mood board or just skip to the execution part (since we’ve already started shopping I’m betting on the latter). Mainly we put mood boards together so other people can “see” how all of the elements that we dig up will work together (sometimes it’s hard for them to picture certain textures and patterns together until they see them on a mood board and things click into place). We’re pretty good at visualizing how things will mix & match (and we’re big fans of letting things evolve as we go when it comes to our own home) so we’ve actually never made a mood board for ourselves (even the big kitchen renovation came and went without a single mood board!). It’s probably because we’re just too excited to roll up our sleeves and get started. Impatient is my middle name. Stay tuned…

So many green porches/patios this year! I did find the cushions at HD the other day but opted not to get them as I’m still searching for the perfect pillows for my space. I see you have concrete/porch paint – can’t wait to see what color you use since I’m doing the same thing once it warms up in MI (can you believe it snowed yesterday?!?).
