Love this idea! Since you use the plain jars for your spices, is there a way that you label them so that you know which spice each jar contains? I'm trying to get rid of all of my mismatched plastic containers and make the switch to glass jars and am worried that it will take longer to locate what I need.

Hey Elisa,

Those jars from Bed Bath & Beyond. They came as part of a countertop spice rack, but we just used the jars and not the rack.

I found similar drawers at our local Habitat for Humanity Restore. Their label on the front said "Cole" (for Cole Steel) which is my son's name so I snatched them up. I did end up spray painting them lime green and powder blue to go into our guest room/playroom.

I found one of these at a garage sale a few years ago and gave it to my hubby thinking he'd use it for some creative tool storage in the garage. Unfortunately for him, it's still on a shelf in the garage empty...I think I'll wait until he leaves for work in the morning to pilfer it :) Another wonderful idea for you! Thanks for sharing.

What a great idea. I just saw one of these at the surplus place on the campus that I work at and it was only 3.00. I may have to copy this idea if its still there when I get back. My hubby gave me a tripod for my new SLR camera and I treated him to dinner at his favorite Japanese steak house.

Ok seriously this is getting a tad crazy! ahhaa Our decorating styles are so similar. Once again you post about an item you have and we have it too, and in the same room of the house! LOL Hubby and I found our metal card catalog last year at the local restore for like $7.00. We love it and use it for our recipe collection. :) Here is a picture of ours on my flickr:

What a great find and thoughtful gift! I'm a trained librarian but never actually worked in a library, still would love to have this card catalog. Love the color as well.
