Fab Freebie: From Africa With Love
***This giveaway is no longer accepting entries***
This week’s giveaway comes courtesy of a new online gift boutique for women called Yellow Threads. They set out to create a place where women could find meaningful gifts for their female friends and family members- and what better way to start than with items that hold a special place in their hearts… and some that even hold a special place on their walls.
While honeymooning in South Africa, one of the founders of Yellow Threads came across a bunch of rustic, wooden frames made right there in Cape Town. She learned the company actually hires homeless locals to collect discarded wood that is then hand-crafted into these one-of-a-kind frames. Pretty cool, eh? The newlyweds just had to bring a bunch of them back home to display their wedding and honeymoon photos and- upon receiving a slew of compliments- they knew they’d be a big hit on Yellow Threads.

Now Yellow Threads wants to share a little bit of Africa with us, so we’re giving away this White Pane South African Rustic Frame to one lucky reader. The frame holds a 5″ x 7″ photo, retails for $115 and is truly the only one of its kind. Not to mention that Yellow Threads is the only retailer in the US to carry these rustic South African frames (check out some other styles here).

To enter, just comment on this post with the words “FRAME ME” by this Wednesday, February 11th at 8pm EST. And while you’re at it, tell us about an extra special item in your home that you picked up while traveling (one our favs is the big iron bull head in our den that we snagged at a North Carolina flea market). As usual, only one entry per e-mail address is allowed and we’ll announce the lucky winner (selected by random.org) later in the week. Oh, and this giveaway is limited to US residents only (but stay tuned for an international prize next week).
We can’t wait to hear about all of your worldly treasures and, more importantly, find out who’s going to get one more to add to their collection very soon.
Got a question about our giveaways? Find out more here. Images courtesy of Yellow Threads.

FRAME ME!
I’ve got a great photograph of an old pick-up truck painted with a chili pepper pattern that I picked up in New Mexico that I just love (and to think, I almost didn’t buy it because of the price, yikes).
Frame me
A small rock from a hike in the Swiss Alps.
FRAME ME!
We have maps from our honeymoon in the Caribbean.
“FRAME ME” BABY!!
My favorite vaca bring back items – ever growing – are our clay masks from the foothills of the Argentine Andes mountains.
“FRAME ME”
One of my favorite finds was a vintage cashmere sweater with strawberry appliques that I picked up in St. Louis. It still has the date it was made in Vietnam, 1968, and the party it was made for. I still wear this sweater, which is in perfect condition.
Frame me!
I love the wire “live laugh love” that I found at a small town craft fair in Nebraska.
I am anxiously looking forward to an International Giveway!!! I get sad everytime I see the “Rules”.. :(

FRAME ME!
My favorite item? The black cardamon we picked near the border of Tibet in a place that bears our surname while on our honeymoon.
Forgot the second part! Favorite thing I’ve brought back…I think my favorite treasure from on the road would be the antique stuffed scottie dog I got at Tobacco Barn Antiques in Asheville, NC.
Frame Me! I adore my little wooden angel bought in a market in a small Guatamalan town. Reminds me of my amazing Central American excursion.

my husband and I went to Prague on our honeymoon and we brought back a beautiful crystal vase. It is boxed up because I don’t want the kids to break it. But this post makes me realize I need to get it out and display the thing!

my fave thing from my travels is the gorgeous jewelry that I got while in Nicaragua and Ecuador–all wooden and hand painted and fun!
FRAME ME!!
Frame me!!!! I love getting jewelry when I travel.

FRAME ME!
On our honeymoon to Sedona, my husband and I bought our first “real” piece of art — a gorgeous sculpture made out of copper. It has a prominent place in our dining room!
FRAME ME!!
My favorite home decor souvenir is a small wooden board painted with an advertisement for a 1920s aviation festival that I picked up during a trip to Spain in college. It’s propped up on my dresser with other international souvenirs and lends a great vintage touch.
Frame me!
Chopsticks and rice bowls from Japan.
FRAME ME! Pretty please.
I love a brightly colored coin purse I picked up in India…
Frame me! My favorite treasure is a framed drawing of the Banyan tree in Lahaina on Maui. It is also known as the tree of life and is over 120 years old. When we visited it on the morning of our wedding, my husband hurt his knee and was consequently on crutches for our wedding and the first 2 weeks we were married. It reminds me to roll with the punches.
Frame me! My favorite item is hand made jewelry from my recent trip from Peru.
FRAME ME!
My husband and I buy an ornament each time we travel. My favorite is a hand blown glass painted one we bought in San Francisco.
FRAME ME!
Unfortunately, we have not done much traveling but would love to one day.

Lat summer we took a little road trip to Madison, VA in search of the Plow and Hearth Outlet. We found it, but the real fun of the trip turned out to be all the hole in the wall shops we discovered on the way home. I picked up two vintage paint-by-numbers (NOT the creepy clown kind) for a song in a tiny junk shop that would not pass any building code anywhere. They look wonderful in our living room and remind me of a great day.
Frame me!
My favorite thing that we brought back from our travels (honeymoon to Napa and Sonoma) is a fantastic bottle of cabernet to be opened on our 10th anniversary.
P.S. Those frames are beautiful!
Neat! Frame me, please!
FRAME ME!
We picked up a lightning bolt shaped piece of slate on our honeymoon that sits in our garden.
FRAME ME!
FRAME ME! I think the best thing that I have from any trip are the photos that I take, they capture a feeling, a time in my history, and they are something that can keep that memory long after I am gone. Love the perfect imperfection of these!
Frame me! I love our rug from the Grand Bazaar in Istanbul.
Frame me! Our favorite items are most often the pictures we take on our trips, so that’s why we need this beautiful frame! Thanks for offering the giveaway!
FRAME ME!
I came across your blog not too long ago. I love it! These frames are gorgeous!

My fave piece I think I would have to say is a U.S. flag that was flown in Iraq during my husbands deployment. It is pretty special.
Frame Me… I’d love to visit Africa one day!
Frame me:-)
Frame Me, Frame Me, Frame Me – Please!?!
Frame Me!
While in Paris, I picked up a few prints. I had them framed and now they remind me of that beautiful city everyday.
Frame me! We always try to buy a Christmas ornament when we travel. Oh, and we take LOTS of pictures, one of which would look great in this frame!

I picked up some original vintage advertisements from a flea market in England. I have them frames around my house and I LOVE them!
FRAME ME!!!
On our honeymoon, we had all of these big ambitions to get some sort of decorative item that we could display in our home for years to come. We searched all over Mexico and found nothing…except for a magnet from Chichen Itza that we bought for 10 pesos. Oh well! Maybe next honeymoon!!
FRAME ME!! We love all of the ornaments we pick up all over the world – we travel lots and have made it our tradition to collect a piece for our tree each time.
FRAME ME!
We bought our first two art pieces on our honeymoon. We went on a carribean cruise and stopped at Key West. There are lots of local artists selling there!
FRAME ME!
please!
FRAME ME! My favorite is a metal fish sculpture we bought in Texas.
Frame me!
DH and I are not huge souvenir people, but we do have a neat collection of Christmas ornaments from our travels. They are small enough and light enough to pack into a suitcase, and every year when we do the tree it is fun to dig them out and reminisce about the trips we took.
FRAME ME!!
My husband and I have an incredibly special series of watercolors that we bought in Italy and had framed here in the states. I was studying abroad in 2002 and he came over to visit for a week. Unbeknownst to me, he brought with him his great-grandmother’s diamond! He proposed in Venice, where we bought several of these watercolors. The rest we bought from an artist in Florence. Picking out the frames and mattes was a fun project, and now they grace the walls of our entry, dining room, and family room!
Frame me! What a beautiful and thoughtful gift for someone. I would love to own one.
