Fab Freebie: From Africa With Love
***This giveaway is no longer accepting entries***
This week’s giveaway comes courtesy of a new online gift boutique for women called Yellow Threads. They set out to create a place where women could find meaningful gifts for their female friends and family members- and what better way to start than with items that hold a special place in their hearts… and some that even hold a special place on their walls.
While honeymooning in South Africa, one of the founders of Yellow Threads came across a bunch of rustic, wooden frames made right there in Cape Town. She learned the company actually hires homeless locals to collect discarded wood that is then hand-crafted into these one-of-a-kind frames. Pretty cool, eh? The newlyweds just had to bring a bunch of them back home to display their wedding and honeymoon photos and- upon receiving a slew of compliments- they knew they’d be a big hit on Yellow Threads.

Now Yellow Threads wants to share a little bit of Africa with us, so we’re giving away this White Pane South African Rustic Frame to one lucky reader. The frame holds a 5″ x 7″ photo, retails for $115 and is truly the only one of its kind. Not to mention that Yellow Threads is the only retailer in the US to carry these rustic South African frames (check out some other styles here).

To enter, just comment on this post with the words “FRAME ME” by this Wednesday, February 11th at 8pm EST. And while you’re at it, tell us about an extra special item in your home that you picked up while traveling (one our favs is the big iron bull head in our den that we snagged at a North Carolina flea market). As usual, only one entry per e-mail address is allowed and we’ll announce the lucky winner (selected by random.org) later in the week. Oh, and this giveaway is limited to US residents only (but stay tuned for an international prize next week).
We can’t wait to hear about all of your worldly treasures and, more importantly, find out who’s going to get one more to add to their collection very soon.
Got a question about our giveaways? Find out more here. Images courtesy of Yellow Threads.

Frame me!
My husband and I brought home a beautiful handcarved wooden bowl from our honeymoon in Tanzania. Every time I look at it, it brings back wonderful memories!
Frame me!
I have limited travel experience, but it did get to spend several amazing weeks in London and Rome during the summer of 2007. I was too broke to buy much of anything besides food, but I’ve decorated my room with many of the maps, brochures, and postcards I picked up during the trip.
FRAME ME! I have a shofar, a rams horn, that I picked up when I was in Israel a few years ago. (I actually bartered with the shopkeeper!) I have never been able to play it and I am not sure how to display it, but it is really neat looking and has a lot of significance and memories behind it.
FRAME ME!
We always pick up christmas tree ornaments on our vacations/travels. Every year, when we decorate the tree we reminisce on all our fun trips together.
FRAME ME!
We love our beautiful blue handmade blanket we got while on vacation in Puerto Vallarta. It goes great with our deck decor and we didn’t even plan it!
Frame Me
My favorite piece is a framed art piece of classic pottery from Ecuador. The colors are incredible and the framing was done while we were there and so cheap! Love your stuff! Thanks, Lolli
FRAME ME
One of my favorite travel gifts is a hammock from Costa Rica that my boyfriend brought me while vacationing.
Frame Me!
my favorite treasure(s) are the rocks i’ve collected from so many different places…all displayed on a shelf.
Frame Me!
My favorite travel piece is a bird design mirror made from a 50 gallon steel drum that was handcut by an man in Haiti, where my sister and her husband do mission’s work. It is the most unusual piece and something we treasure.
I am generally an extremely giving person, and have been known to give the shirt off my back (Or the scarf from around my neck) but when the girl who worked at the glass/mirror shop said that she’d love to have a piece like it, all I could do was say, “Yup – I sure am blessed.”
I’m not proud of my actions, but at least I still have my mirror. She got the scarf I was wearing… Haha!

(Please, thank you!)
I love to buy something small from a local artist when I travel. Something nice to remind me of the trip.
Frame Me! I love the two handcarves vases we bought on our honeymoon, Their unique shape and color stand out in our living room and they always remind me of our fantastic vacation!
“FRAME ME”
When I was on vacation in Belgium, I saved everything I purchased, even the shopping bag from a cute little shop. The bag was made out of hand made paper and just very unusual, so I had it framed and just love it.
I’d have to say my favorite thing that I have brought back from a vacation was a hand carved wooden giraffe from Jamaica, although my tradition is to always buy a piece of jewelry whenever I am traveling out of the country, makes for an interesting collection. Oh yea, please frame me!
Please Frame Me! What a great site, Yellow Threads too. Looking forward to adding both to my internet “favorites!”
Please Frame Me!!! My favorite travel find is tied between a cool geometric print of the skyline of Hong Kong and several pairs of fabulous shoes in London.
FRAME ME
my husband has traveled a lot of the world, and by far the pictures he has taken are amongst my most favorite things!
Frame me! My husband and I get a Christmas ornament whenever we travel places. I love having so many fun memories to go through at Christmas. My favorite is an olive wood nativity from Assisi.
Frame Me!
One of my most favorite things is a small photo of seagrass that my husband and I purchased in Charleston. It was at a time when he and I were just dating, and he told me that he thought it would be a great tradition to buy one piece of art from each place we visited for the rest of our lives. At that moment I was so comfortable with that idea, and I knew that he was the one I would be with forever.
It’s 8pm here on the East Coast, meaning no more entries for this giveaway. Sorry to those who missed their chance, but thanks to everyone else for sharing all of their special finds from around the world. Amazing how well traveled this group is!
We’re off to go let random.org pick a winner, so stay tuned for the announcement tomorrow.

FRAME ME!
My favorite item I picked up in Xi’an, China on a study abroad trip. I missed my husband (boyfriend at the time) dreadfully and found a set of two dragon seals, they faced each other and were in a jade looking color. I had them engraved with our names in Chinese (they go by sound, rather than spelling). I cherish them!
