Fab Freebie: From Africa With Love
***This giveaway is no longer accepting entries***
This week’s giveaway comes courtesy of a new online gift boutique for women called Yellow Threads. They set out to create a place where women could find meaningful gifts for their female friends and family members- and what better way to start than with items that hold a special place in their hearts… and some that even hold a special place on their walls.
While honeymooning in South Africa, one of the founders of Yellow Threads came across a bunch of rustic, wooden frames made right there in Cape Town. She learned the company actually hires homeless locals to collect discarded wood that is then hand-crafted into these one-of-a-kind frames. Pretty cool, eh? The newlyweds just had to bring a bunch of them back home to display their wedding and honeymoon photos and- upon receiving a slew of compliments- they knew they’d be a big hit on Yellow Threads.

Now Yellow Threads wants to share a little bit of Africa with us, so we’re giving away this White Pane South African Rustic Frame to one lucky reader. The frame holds a 5″ x 7″ photo, retails for $115 and is truly the only one of its kind. Not to mention that Yellow Threads is the only retailer in the US to carry these rustic South African frames (check out some other styles here).

To enter, just comment on this post with the words “FRAME ME” by this Wednesday, February 11th at 8pm EST. And while you’re at it, tell us about an extra special item in your home that you picked up while traveling (one our favs is the big iron bull head in our den that we snagged at a North Carolina flea market). As usual, only one entry per e-mail address is allowed and we’ll announce the lucky winner (selected by random.org) later in the week. Oh, and this giveaway is limited to US residents only (but stay tuned for an international prize next week).
We can’t wait to hear about all of your worldly treasures and, more importantly, find out who’s going to get one more to add to their collection very soon.

FRAME ME.
Oh, I LOVE this frame. Even without the cool backstory, I would want it in my living room.
My favorite decor item that we’ve picked up traveling is a handmade wooden bear from Mexico. He’s so smooth and polished, and sits right on top of our unpaid bills in the entryway. :)
Frame Me! I love it. Starting in high school, I began collecting various shells from the beaches I grew up visiting and the few Caribbean islands. I’ve saved these shells in a beautiful glass bowl and it sits in my bedroom. Hopefully, I can keep adding to it as my future husband and I travel!
FRAME ME. i think of my favorite items picked up around our household is a postcard my new boyfriend at the time (now husband) and i picked up in paris (where we met) at the bookstore in centres pompidou in paris. we love having coffe time together, and always joke about how he’s medium and i’m small. i found a postcard that has two coffee cup icons–one medium, one small. i just love it, and it says so much with the one simple graphic.

My favorite item I picked up while traveling was a beer stein I stole when I was in Germany! I was only 17, and my punishment was having to carry it around in my back pack for 6-weeks!

My favorite item is a painting of the beach in Anguilla where my husband and I took our honeymoon. We have it hanging in our living room to remind us of the amazing time we had together.
FRAME ME!
My favorite item ever was a sack of vintage hankies I brought home from Paris. They now live all over my small home.
FRAME ME!
While we were honeymooning, we picked up a beautiful cross that I just love! It has traveled with us through our different homes, and there is always a special place for this painted cross!
Frame Me!!
While on an anniversary trip in Door County, Wisconsin, my husband and I happened upon a fantastic Architectural Antique Warehouse. We wandered around in the dimly lit interior hunting for a cool find to bring home to our Cape Cod cottage back in Minnesota. We knew we’d stuck gold when we dug up a beautifully preserved vintage mahogany wood plane propeller. To this day, it’s one of the most unique and commented upon pieces in our home.

Am I supposed to say FRAME ME?
I have an elephant-shaped chinese checkers board a friend brought me from Africa. It constantly makes me feel dumb for not winning.

My favorite item is a set of three watercolor prints from Barcelona. They are a beautiful portrayal of the only international city I’ve ever visited!

favorite thing from travelling is old hand-bound copy of Les Miserables I bought at a flea market in Paris…

the hubs and i like to take lots of pictures when we’re on vacation and bring them home to frame! we usually try to pack light wherever we go so we don’t bring too many “things” home.
FRAME ME!!! My favorite travel item is a painting on a piece of silk that my husband brought back from India.
Frame Me!
I just bought a house and much of decor is already South African – this would tie it together! Frame me!
FRAME ME!!!! I love that frame! My favorite travel item is a wand of peacock feathers my husband brought back for me from India. We are off to Cambodia and Germany this year, so hopefully there will be many more favorites!

we got a great ceramic plate while in mexico … which sadly broke recently. i kept the pieces just in case i decided to get crafty one day with the leftovers.
FRAME ME! I have a model jeepney that I received as a welcome gift to the Philippines for a work trip. It is one of a kind!
FRAME ME!
One of our favorite finds is an old postcard of Syracuse University (my husband and I met there), it would look great in that frame!!
FRAME ME
My favorite travel item is a neat frame made out of lobster traps. We picked it up in the Florida keys.
Frame me! My favorite thing that I have from my travels are my photographs. I love graphic images, architecture, and texture, so I tend to photograph things I love and enlarge a whole or a part of a photograph, and hang it on my wall. Currently, I just decorated my office with some photographs of salvaged architectural pieces from my visit to the Art Institute in Chicago.
Frame Me! My favorite travel item is a large papyrus bought by my future mother-in-law during a trip to Egypt last summer. My fiancee and I had just gotten engaged, and the papyrus symbolizes the celebration and blessing of marriage.
FRAME ME!! While in Tokyo this summer, I picked up an antique silk kimono that I have displayed on the guest bedroom wall.
Frame me please :)
Being only 21 my husband and I do not have to many items collected from travels. What we do have is a beautiful paper umbrella we bought on our honeymoon in Hawaii. It stis on our dresser.
FRAME ME! Just got back from Belize where I picked up some great wooden bowls carved from the palm trees – love them!
frame me!
shells collected from edisto beach now displayed in heavy glass jars with lids.
they were collected over a week’s time by my children, my husband & myself, my parents, my brothers, my MIL, my sister & her husband.
FRAME ME! One of our favorite items we picked up while travelling is actually a collection of items. My husband and I drove cross-country to move from WA to FL, and picked up vintage-looking postcards in every state we drove through. We then framed them in a sectioned frame with 9 panes (we didn’t have room for every state, but got most of them in!) It’s a great-looking art piece that only cost us $9.99 for the frame and about .25 per post card, but I love seeing it on our wall and thinking of all the adventures from our trip.
FRAME ME, please!
Not too long ago we were in LA and took a side trip to Malibu, where we found a little gift-shoppy place that was home to a pair of sculpted rabbit bookends. They’re more spirited than cutesy, and I like so much how they look pushing against each other with their paws that I prefer not to put any books between them.
Frame me!
A beautiful set of white square plates from china.
Frame Me! Those are beautiful and wonderful how they come to be. I travel for a living as a corporate meetings & incentives planner, but truthfully I cannot think of very many things I absolutely LOVE that I have picked up from travelling. I have some great coral pieces and a wood carving from Costa Rica, a beautiful etched wine glass from Santa Barbara, nothing too special- I’m usually working way too much to shop (unfortunately)!
FRAME ME!
while traveling in Europe, i picked up a darling salt and pepper shaker from paris that i love. they intertwine and are the exact colors of out kitchen! i love them!
Oh please FRAME ME! I know exactly the spot this would go in.
FRAME ME!
One of my favorite pieces in my house is a display of seashells from all over the world. Anytime my boyfriend and I travel, we make sure to pick up a special shell or two, so I now have shells from Brazil, Ireland, Portugal, Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico and beaches from all along the East Coast … I can’t wait to keep adding to our collection!
Frame me!
I picked up a wooden Madonna and child statue for my mom in Spain when I went after college graduation. Also, my big oversized sweater I bought in Amsterdam came in handy recently.
Frame Me!
I LOVE this! I have a great many things in my home from Africa — Kenya, Lesotho and South Africa. My favorite item picked up on travels is probably my sand pot from Lesotho. It’s a hand crafted clay pot covered with colored sands to make two images of African ladies cooking over an open fire. I love it! Hubby and I have also collected Christmas ornaments from the different places we visited on our honeymoon, like the Biltmore house, which are special as well.
Frame me! My husband just recently returned from Australia with some authentic wooden bumarangs and an opal necklace for me!!
Frame me! My favorite item is a glass angel ornament my husband and I found on our honeymoon in Venice. My parents always put angel ornaments on the top of their Christmas tree, and now my husband and I continue the tradition, so it was only fitting that we found a beautiful addition to the collection while on the honeymoon.
Frame Me
My favorite decor item is a tiny bottle I have with some sand from the very spot on the beach that we were married. It is my little bit of that moment in St. Lucia to have forever.
