Window Shopping: Target Hits The Mark

By now you’ve all probably heard about Tar-jay’s Home Design Event (we’ve seen it mentioned  here, here and here just to name a few) so we decided to drop in and see what all the fuss was about. And boy was it worth all the aforementioned fuss. So we stealthily shot some photos to share our ten favorite items. Here’s what we’re loving.

#1. These rugs. At just 29 clams a piece, these 3x5s are a super easy way to add a happy splash of personality to any room in your home. They even felt durable enough for a kitchen and they’re certainly cheap enough!

#2: This chair. This gray armchair is pretty freakin’ fabulous. We sat in it. It was comfy. We looked at the back and the sides of it (often where craftsmanship goes out the window) and it appeared to be impeccably made. And the price for this sophisticated wing chair? $299. Yeah, we gasped too.

#3: These towels. We love these beachy blue towels that sport a chic little embossed shell detail and a luxe fluffy texture to boot. And at just 9-12 beans they’re as cheap as the old tattered ones in your closet that you probably picked up five years ago. 2009 is the year for new bath towels!

#4: These frames. These simple square linen frames look a lot more expensive than their $10 price tag. The square shape is super crisp and current and the textured fabric is so Nate Berkus. Just pop in a favorite picture and admire the finished product.

#5: These stools. We picture these nautical woven stools in an all white bathroom with a stack of white fluffy towels on them. Of course our bathrooms are too tiny to accommodate even the smallest of stools, but hopefully someone out there can turn our fantasy into a reality.

#6: This art. Two years ago we actually ordered a sea fan and purchased a white frame to showcase it. The total cost for the project was around $30. So when you think about the fact that this beefy and beautiful sea fan is already framed and ready to go (on a chic linen backdrop no less) it’s definitely worth the $39 price tag.

#7: This wallpaper. That’s right, Target is selling wallpaper. And it’s not your grandmother’s. Some of it is even flocked and embossed for a high-end look on a budget (just $29 a roll). We’re not always huge wallpaper fans (mostly because it’s more complicated than a coat of paint) but we’d love to see this one on the back of a bookcase, in a closet, or even under a piece of glass on a desk or coffee table.

# 8: This lamp. We loved these oversized etched glass based lamps (with an opening at the bottom to accommodate everything from photographs and wine corks to sea shells and ornaments if the mood strikes). They’d look super swanky flanking a sofa or bed, and at $89 a pop they’re a lot less expensive than the average humongous glass lamp (which usually runs ya $150+, even at Big Lots).

#9: And this lamp. You may notice a pattern from here on out. The lamp selection was by far our favorite part of the entire Home Design Event. These cheerful green glass lamps (with patterned shades that glow for added interest and ambiance) will run you just $49.99 a pop. And I must admit I almost walked out with one of them for my desk- they’re just so springy and fun.

#10: And this lamp. Told you there was a pattern. But we couldn’t resist the urge to add these pearlescent oversized glass gourd lamps to our list of items that we adore. They’re large and in charge with dramatic lines and warm linen-ish shades and for just $89 you can make one yours. We know this might sound pricey for a lamp, but trust me, these big guys will make a room. So save on the rug, get $10 Ikea curtains, but grab this lamp and the whole space will shout “posh and proud of it.”

There you have it. Our top ten picks at Target’s Home Design Event. Of course the prices may vary from store to store (goodness knows we learned this last week) and availability will fluctuate so this list is by no means exhaustive. In fact there were many an empty shelf at our Target so we’re keeping an eye out for more stuff over the next few weeks. And we wanna know what you’re loving. Anything we missed? Anything you purchased? Do tell.

We love hearing from ya. We try to keep it light & fun (it's only decorating), so we'll nix comments that are snarky/spammy (our moms are reading).
