Reader Redesign: Second Floor Galore
As soon as we saw Brooke’s stunning second floor conversion, we got a serious style crush. Check out her letter (and her fabulous before and after pics) below:
I’m a longtime reader and I thought you guys might be interested in the transformation the second floor of our house has taken. When we bought the house it was split into two apartments – first floor and second floor. We took the second floor, gutted it, and over a period of 18 months (with a lot of help from contractors), converted it into a beautiful master suite and family room. Enjoy! – Brooke

Here’s the second floor kitchen (which used to be necessary when the second floor was a separate unit) that they turned into a spacious master bathroom:
And the family room that they totally transformed (love love love the cow hide rug, the parson’s desk and the tree in the dormer nook):

Brooke’s space looks amazing–especially the stairs. I can’t imagine living in a construction zone for 18 months. Ugh! (Looks like it was worth it, though!)

The vanities (sinks, fixtures and mirrors) are all Ikea. The lights and towel rods are West Elm. Thanks for all the renovation love!
Love the shower in the bathroom! I also don’t know if I could handle living in a construction zone for that long, but I agree that it looks completely worth it.

What an amazing transformation–beginning at the stairs and continuing throughout. It must be wonderful to have a retreat like this…excellent use of the space and a brave leap in the world of projects. I am in love with that shower! Kudos!
Michelle, the bathroom tiles are from Lowes. We used a 1 inch hexagon pattern on the floor and a typical 3×6 subway tile on the shower and vanity wall. The brand is American Olean.

I love it too!! As someone who is considering changing an unused room into a master closet & bathroom area, this bathroom is exactly what I had in mind! I can already vouch for the love of the sink as that is what was in our previous apartment. I adored that it was a tall sink and so very wide! Hopefully, I’ll have similar pics to post later this spring….
