I love this! I actually have very similar bookshelves, but mine are from Target (still cheaper than the Crate and Barrel ones!) You can see photos of them here: http://magchunk.blogspot.com/2009/01/living-room.html

Another great mood board! I love that you mostly stuck to Ikea and Target... very budget friendly! There are some Victoria Hagen perfect pieces end tables that you have suggested in other mood boards that would coordinate with that coffee table without being matchy...

Hey Lisa,

We're never ones for a matching set of anything, so we'd just suggest clean-lined dark wood side tables if Megan and Drew feel the need for 'em. Some people get by with just a coffee table to avoid wood overload, especially with a big wood TV stand and dining table so close by. Hope it helps!

And as for Carol's lighting suggestion, we were waiting for someone to mention it! We completely agree that switching out the lighting in both spaces will further contribute to the makeover, and we'd actually love to see a big fabric pendant light (we love the Eden pendant from CB2) hung 30-34" above the dining table. And in the living room a sleek flush mounted fixture like this one (one sale!) would look lovely- assuming Megan and Drew don't regularly use the fan. Great suggestion Carol!

xo,

Love all the plans laid out...but couldn't help wondering about making some adjustments to the ceiling lights. I'd hang a simple 5 arm wrought iron style chandelier over the dining room table, which run less than $100 from anywhere like Target of JC Penny. For the family room, that ceiling fan doesn't do a lot for me, and am wondering if you use the fan a lot, or if you would be willing to consider a more contemporary light? Sherry, your thoughts? Great job, this room is really nice and will go fantastic. Love the wall color. Good luck!

I really love the coffee table you suggested, but what end tables would you put with it? I don't see "matching" end tables on Target's site. Thanks!

Hey Tom,

Thanks for the TV clarification! We definitely pictured them placing the TV on the stand as opposed to mounting it (the image from West Elm just happens to show a mounted TV but the stand is also built to hold the weight of a television without it being mounted as well). I just loved the idea of a dark wood backdrop behind the TV since it will create a larger dark box behind that big box of a TV- thereby framing it out and making it look sleek and balanced.

And as for Marisa's question about JC Penney's quality, they actually blow us away with their craftsmanship. Not only are their pieces priced to sell, they're just as durable and well made as furnishings from pricier places like Pottery Barn. And we're not the only JC Penney fans, plenty of commenters often come out of the woodwork to mention how happy they are with their sofa/table/console/media cabinet from JC Penney.

xo,
Sherry
