Hey Ottoman, Where Ya From?
We did it! We finally compiled a room by room source list for almost every item in our entire house. You can find a link to the list at the top and bottom of the House Tour tab under the header (and another link on our FAQ page) but you can also cut straight to the chase and click here for the goods.

So whether you’re looking to find something in particular, or just want to suss out a few of our favorite home decor stores (Ikea and Target make quite a few appearances) click on over and have at it. Oh and we’ve also included each room’s paint color so that will also hopefully come in handy.
And while we’re on the subject, when you guys look around your house, are there any home decor stores that you seem to favor? Any unexpected places where you’ve picked up an item (we once got an ottoman at a craft store)? Do tell.

wow! impressive! (and time consuming!) looks like i’m not the only one cleanin’ up shop in the new year…
Most of the decorative stuff in our place is from Home Sense/Winners, which I guess is the Canadian version of Home Goods??? They have a great selection, variety of styles, are pretty cheap, and I can always find something, so gift cards for here are always on my wishlists!
Kirklands & TJMaxx stand out the most in our decor.
I think my unexpected place is Lowe’s for decor.
I’d guess the majority of my stuff is from Pottery Barn and Crate&Barrel — probably because I registered at both places when I got married in 2006! I’m currently trying to spice things up a bit with some other stores…. :)
Also! Should you ever want to get a new slipcover for your PB basic sofa, the EKTORP chair covers from IKEA fit the PB basic chair I have perfectly — and for about 1/3 of the cost! I’m not sure if PB basic sofa and the EKTORP sofa are a match, too, but it’s probably worth checking out.
Your readers are going to love this feature! What a fabulous idea! Hmmm, in looking around my house, I would say Home Goods, TJ Maxx, Pier 1, Pottery Barn, Ballard Designs comes up pretty frequently.
How fun! I’m off to take a look right now! : )
Home Goods is a popular choice in my house when it comes to accessories. Pottery Barn for main furniture (since the hope is they’re classic enough to last forever!) and West Elm for some modern touches. Thanks for all the resources!
I must also add that thrift stores and flea markets have also contributed to our look! Can’t beat ‘em!
I laughed when I saw Burger was identified in the patio picture.
you guys are just so darn organized. first all of the how to’s and now this. one question. the one item that i’m most interested in that is in you’re sunroom didn’t appear to make the list. where is that coffee table from, i love it?
i just tried to sum up our living room/dining and i can’t believe how little we’ve spent on each room. I guess you could call them the thrift & gift rooms -we do a lot of thrifting and our family has given us some timeless pieces as well! otherwise, i’d have to say walmart/target for our accessories!
I don’t even want to think how much time you guys spent on this, but THANK YOU!!!!! I can’t wait to read through this post. We’re moving into a new place in a couple of months, and this is going to help me SO MUCH!
how about the coffee table in the sunroom? =P
I’ve enjoyed reading your blog for several weeks not, but you’re now my HEROES! Your home is truly an inspiration, and proof that with the right eye and patience you can make an absolutely gorgeous, magazine page-worthy home with inexpensive mass merchant retailers and re-painted, re-finished thrift store finds. All I can say is WOW!! I can’t wait to move this spring now!
I look around the apartment and I see a lot of stuff from craigslist (couch, chair/ottoman, other chair, coffee table, book shelf, kitchen cart, curtain rod, bedside tables, etc). Now THAT’S recycling!
The rest is mostly IKEA
Wow this is nice! Thanks! What thift stores or flea markets in Richmond are good spots? I don’t seem to have a lot of luck in these sorts of places.
Hey guys,
So sorry about the sunroom coffee table oversight. But fear not, I’ve updated the source list with the missing info! It’s actually an Ikea Lack table with a larger thrift store tabletop screwed on top (and painted white to match). Hope it helps! And so glad you’re diggin’ our room by room breakdown.
Oh and as for which thrift stores we love around here, we always seem to have the most luck at Diversity Thrift and Love Of Jesus Thrift (gotta love that name). Happy hunting!

Sherry
I think Home Depot is at the top of our list!!! Craig’s List is quickly becoming a favorite for good deals!
thanks for the update, i had a feeling it was something you guys created/hacked. it looks great.
my home used to be filled with a lot of stuff from target. still a good amount but it’s slowly getting replaced with some great ebay finds and of course ikea. oh and artwork is now coming almost exclusively from etsy.
Hey guys…thanks for the info. love your home! have you ever had to clean your sofas? If so, what process do you use? dry cleaning, machine wash? I have an ivory PB basic sofa & chair that need cleaning and not sure what is best. would love an experts opinion!
Are the two brown ottomans/benches from different places – Target and BB&B? They look identical. Are they the storage benches/ottomans that are under $100? I have been looking at them as well as a more expensive one from Crate & Barrel, but I cant’t decide which to get.
As for how we wash our slipcovered sofas and chairs, we actually just throw them in the washer and dryer. We’re careful to divide things up as much as possible so we don’t overload the them (ex: we’ll wash all the seat covers in one load and the big sofa slipcover in the next) and take everything out of the dryer (set on low heat) when it’s a little damp so we can stick ‘em back on the couch where they’ll dry crisp and wrinkle free. It’s not easy wrestling seat cushions into their seemingly-too-small-and-a-little-damp slipcovers, but all the pushing and pulling is worth it because the couch literally looks like new (and everything once again fits like a glove when it dries completely).
As for the ottoman question, yup, the bench is really BB&B and the ottomans are really Target. We actually purchased a bench at Target but it didn’t have those little two or three inch feet on the bottom of it so when you sat in it at the table it felt a bit low. So we returned the Target bench and picked up this almost-identical-but-slightly-taller bench from BB&B and life is good. And yes, the den ottomans were under $100 each, maybe around $69 actually (on sale in that section at the front of the store with the Victoria Hagan stuff a while back). Hope it helps. Happy shopping!

What an awesome resource you’ve put together!! Thank you, thank you… :)
I think all my unexpected finds have come from garage sales, thrift stores and antique shops. I like IKEA, Target, and Pottery Barn as much as the next guy, but I get a thrill from hunting for unique items that have a story and a meaning to them. Somehow they seem to be a little bit more treasured when I know that everyone else in the world doesn’t have the same exact piece in their house!
HomeGoods, TJMaxx, Pier 1 and Target for me. I love finding things at a great price.
Homegoods for the get it girl.
I could look at your house all day. And yes, Ikea and Target are great for staples, but you just can’t beat those unique finds that vintage shops, thrift stores and antique malls offer. Oh, and don’t forget your city’s local Craigslist. I recently got an awesome retro style sideboard for 85 smackers.
WOW! you guys rock!
I will be scouring your list this weekned :D
We also do a lot of shopping at ikea and target for large pieces, but a lot of our accents come from Bed Bath & Beyond.
You can find a lot of gems at craft stores!!
Yay Sherry + John! love love love the resource list!
xo-
WOW-that is really impressive! I think most of mine would come from the thrift or antique stores. It’s taken me years to find exactly what I wanted, then refinish it or have it refinished by someone else. I will admit that I still have a bunch of Pottery Barn laying around from my college years though.
Well done!
Is there any more info you can provide on the lamp in your bedroom and den? I love it! But i can’t seem to find it on the Loew’s site and I even went to Loew’s today (in LA)…any ideas on a similar lamp or the model # on this one?
Thanks SO much!
Hey Michelle,
The chandelier in our bedroom is no longer offered by West Elm but they do sell other similar capiz models or you can Google “capiz chandelier” and find a ton of other nearly identical options. Happy hunting…
As for the fan in the den, it’s actually just a boring old white fan from Lowe’s that we added a lamp shade to (which really makes it feel a lot more tailored and less industrial. Here’s a link to that project. Hope it helps! Be sure to check out the comments for a few more tips and tricks.

Hey Sherry- thanks so much for info- i am so sorry i think i was confusing…i meant the nickel plated floor lamp with the white shade that is in your bedroom next to the mirror and in the den….
any idea if Loew’s still sells this? I went to a Loew’s last night but they didn’t have many options.
Thanks so much for taking the time to tell me!
Hey Michelle,
Those were actually purchased a while ago so they might not be offered anymore. You might want to try Home Depot as they often have similar products. There might also be a few clean-lined options like them at West Elm or CB2 (although they may be a bit pricier, they’re classic so you’ll have ‘em forever). Hope it helps! Happy hunting…
