Goodbye Country Home
You heard it here first folks. Country Home magazine just folded this very morning. Their last pub will be the March issue. Eeeks!

There have been many a fantastic idea in CH (like this old refrigerator coated in chalkboard paint for new life and effortless charm) and I actually have a special connection to the magazine as I interned for them in New York City for a summer in college (when they actually built a showhouse in Grand Central- amazing!). Needless to say, we mourn their loss and have our fingers crossed that this magazine firing squad will have mercy on the rest of our glossy reads.

Sniff. Goodbye, CH.
Enough! This is teetering on the line of ridiculous.
Do you think Real Simple is next? A small part of me will die if that’s the case. How will I know what other uses there are for rubber bands? This madness needs to end!
Damn, Damn, Double-Damn! It was second in my book to Cottage Living, and I was clinging to it for dear life! My mom was just saying last night that her subscription is good through 2011, too.
NNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The madness needs to end NOW!!! And to think that my CH subscription arrived in replacement for another magazine that closed a year ago and then I became addicted to CH only to have that one close…STOP THE INSANITY!
No!!!!!! What’s going to be left??!!?
and they’re moving readymade to des moines!
I never read that one but I’m nervous for other home mags. Will there be any left? I did find out that I’ll get Coastal Living to replace my Cottage Living mags so that’s a small silver lining (although I *really* miss Cottage Living).
Oh so sad…when will it stop!
I have house beautiful and domino lined up for this year.
Unbelievable! As a lover and supporter of all magazines, I hope this madness stops soon!
So sad! Home mags are my last big luxury. I love Real Simple and actually caress the lovely matte finish paper when it arrives. However, my two favourites are “Style at Home” and “Canadian House and Home” and it worries me that our Canadian market might not be able to support both.
That is not good news indeed. I wonder what will happen to my CH subscription now … I hope my other faves don’t follow suit. I need my mags!
I’ve never read this mag, but it SOUNDS like it would have been right up my alley! I even have a chalkboard painted fridge to prove it (though mine is black and not green). :)
This makes me so sad. It is my favorite magazine…and I just got a subscription for Christmas.
Are you kidding me??? HOME folded, and they sent me a replacement mag. Cottage Living, too–and now Country Home. The replacements they are sending are way too formal for my lifestyle. This is getting old.
This is really getting old!! Cottage Living, Country Home… all of my reading material!!
i’m stunned for a second time this week. what a bummer. but at least i don’t think readymade’s moving to iowa (re: rachel’s comment). true, they are own by meredith (an iowa based company) but i’m fairly sure they are firmly planted in the bay area.
Hey Lia,
Sadly ReadyMade is really making the move. Here’s a link about it:

But at least they appear to be safe for now! When will the madness end?!

I am SO sad!! I haven’t even ended my grieving period for Cottage Living and now this. :(
oh!
*tear*
altho I must say that I DO NOT miss Cottage Living – once they started calling 3000 square foot homes cottages, I started donating my unread issues to the library
oh my goodness!!!
I love that fridge – I am still deciding whether I want to integrate some blackboard paint into my kitchen.
Such sad news. I’m a magazine junkie and like most of you, was so sad to hear Cottage Living folded. I was going to turn to Country Home as my next subscription…now what to do?? Any other good suggestions for similar mags?
Sad. There are so few magazines that I really like… and the good ones just keep disapppearing.
I love your blog. I just found it and was so intrigued that I started from the beginning to learn all about your DIY projects as you transform your house. I miss CH too! A good friend used to be a style contributor for them. Does the name Matthew Mead sound familiar? Anyway, it’s a small world and you never know where inspiration will come from. Keep up the amazingly beautiful work.
Of course! We love Matthew Mead and I have actually met him a few times! Too funny. Such a small world.

How sad — and I think I have a subscription to CL through all of 2012. Guess I’ll wait and see what they send me for a replacement. I am still missing Cottage Living — I LOVED that magazine. They better not take Coastal Living from me!
