I saw the 'after' photos on another page - turned out GREAT!! I actually have a question for Chantel: where did you buy that coffee table-trunk? I would love to find a piece like that (I too live in Canada), so if you could let me know, I would really appreciate it! Thanks!! Keep up the great work, YHL!

Anything goes! I would just play around to see what you like from a framed piece of art casually leaning inside to a collection of vases or even an interesting manzanita branch or large piece of driftwood. Hope it helps!

Hi younghouselove. I am addicted to your site, like probably half the world. :) You guys are awesome!

I'm wondering if you had advice for what else you could put in the nook above the fireplace. We have one too, although not in a corner, where I do NOT want to put a TV.

Hi Meg --- not sure if I'm too late in responding, but just in case you're still checking, the shelf is from Best Buy.

PS -- I just ordered said lamp. There's a code for free shipping on the jcp.com Web site through 1/22 -- 51FS69. Makes it a lot easier to order when you know you can return in a nearby store if it doesn't work out, and you aren't paying for the privilege of trying out the item at home!

I love, love that lamp -- it matches a seagrass headboard I have been coveting from Pottery Barn for a while. If only we had two matching nightstands in our bedroom crying out for two matching lamps... alas, the steam heater in our pre-war Manhattan bldg means there's only space for one nightstand. But I guess I could get one lamp...

that mobile is FABULOUS and i love the idea of hanging it over the fireplace. Also love your suggestion of placing the shelving unit under the tv shelf. It feels odd protruding from the wall right now but that should make it feel much more deliberate.
