Fab Freebie: Furry First Aid
I bet it hasn’t taken long for you guys to figure out that we’re a tad infatuated with our dog, Hamburger. Well, at least I know Danielle from FirstAidLive.com picked up on it. She kindly sent us one of their Pet First Aid Kits, a tidy little bag with all the first aid goodies we might need if Burger ever gets cut, stung, or otherwise ends up in harm’s way. Speaking of which, here he is risking a tongue-in-the-zipper injury.
And since we know we’re not the only ones playing protective parent to a furry family member, we asked Danielle to share the love. Hamburger is just the cutest name! We have a little Cooper, a CKC Spaniel. He is very much the lapdog and loves to lay on his back with his head on one of our pillows and sleep. My goodness, I never knew a 20lb dog could snore like a 500lb man!
We have a 5 year old cat named Murphy, that we adopted from the SPCA. His weird habit is to lick all the windows in our house.
What a great idea! We could definitely put a first aid kit to good use at our house since we have 4 rescue Golden Retrievers. Ruby, who is also my dog training demonstration dog, LOVES apples (or anything else that resembles a tennis ball). When she sees a ball or ball-like object, her lower jaw chatters! This looks especially funny b/c she has had her lower front teeth removed…
Bella is our spoiled Maltese. She will not allow DH and I to kiss without her jumping in to get some love too.
Piper, our 6 month old black lab, has multiple weird habits but the most annoying one is how we cannot stop her from eating the many acorns that fall in our back yard. I guess they taste good but she has had a couple of coughing fits that I know I can blame on those acorns!
Nella and Autumn, one year white fluffy cat and 3 month old vizsla dog respectively. Nella, the cat plays fetch with her favorite pink mouse, but no other toy and comes when you call her name! Autumn, the puppy has a foot fetish and even chews on your shoes when you are wearing them, walking by or just standing there. She also has to sit on your feet if your still! I just love them both!!!
I recently adopted “Kitty” from a friend. She’s all white with one blue eye and one gold – very glam and very cuddly! She’s still getting used to the house, and she often goes to look out on the back porch through my sliding glass door, where she inevitably catches a glimpse of herself. This almost always causes panic – I think she thinks she’s another cat – and at least five times a day, a flurry of fur and paws goes skidding across the kitchen floor to her safe place – the food dish. Hilarious!
Roxie is our 2 year old mutt. she has a blankie that she cannot live without. she takes it everywhere with her, and if we dont see it, we can ask her where it is, and she knows exactly where she left it last!
We have two- Lexi is pushing 11 years and will bark if you raise your voice too high (ie loud laughing)- she likes her peace and quiet!
I don’t even know where to begin with Gus- he’s the silliest dog I’ve ever known. Last night we put a sticky noodle on his nose and watched him dance around and do double axels b/c it wouldn’t fall off. he’s always making us laugh (but not too loud!)
p.s. gus is extremely accident prone, so the sooner we can win that kit the better! ;) hehe
My beagle/shepherd mix is named Sienna. Her weird habit is that she likes to lay at the top of the bed ON the pillows, but only if my fiance and I already have our heads on said pillows. She stretches across both of the pillows, completely sprawled out. Did I mention she is 65 lbs?
I have 4 furbabes, 2 crazy Lab boys, Drake & Tucker (they are bros) & 2 orange tabby cats, Daisy & Tootsie.
Tootsie acts like a dog more than a cat, she loves rough housing & she is named Tootsie b/c she has 7 toes on each front paw.
Daisy likes the outdoors & loves to taunt her doggie brothers by walking the fence & the roof, just out of reach.
Drake, Is my goofy dog, his tail wags a million times a minute & feels like a whip.
Tucker is my stubborn dog & will only do what he wants, when he wants. He will only fetch a red ball, no other & will only fetch a ball from the pool if his brother is going after it first! He is a lot like me. :)
We have two cats – Nemo and Roxy. They do a lot of hilarious things. The best is that they love sitting on window sills. Even if the blinds are down. They’ll both climb up on the sill and just push their way between the blinds and the window.
We totally understand the love-your-pet-like-a-child phenom! Our two-year-old hound/doberman/pointer/mutt Fin is a 60-lb cuddlebug. But with her long gangly legs, she’s quite clumsy and is always getting into trouble (the other day during a jaunt on the floor, her paw ended up stuck in a beltloop on a pair of jeans!)
She greets everyone at the door, wildly wagging her tail, and offers a shoe (any shoe) as a welcoming gift. Her weird habit doesn’t stop with shoes, though; she’s also infatuated with socks. She can produce a sock at any time, from anyone’s home. She doesn’t always tear them up, though; she shows them to us and seems to enjoy it when we ask, “Where on EARTH did you find another one!?”
I have 3 dogs – two sweet Golden Retrievers and 1 loveable Black Lab mix. Every morning while I am drying my hair they have Wrestlemania in the bedroom, and then when I am finished they line up to continue in the backyard. They’re a little nuts, but lots of fun!
Our dog, Zeus, frantically rolls around on the carpet after every bath. Our cat, Alton, absolutely cannot resist scratching his kitty condo if you start pretend scratching. He also got stung by something once when he was outside on his harness & leash (he’s an indoor kitty). His poor little paw about tripled in size!
We have one rescue pup named Toni – she is a beagle/min pin mix — its actually quite a cute mix. She is pretty funny and so full of love (may be having been in 4 homes before the age of 3) – her habits include: putting herself to bed underneath her blankets (and trying to burrow under ours) when we don’t go to bed early enough for her, thoroughly smelling people’s and dogs’ eyes, ears and noses, licking just about anything for no apparant reason, shaking like a leaf from pure excitement, and peeing when she meets someone new or if she is excited to see us after a long period away. Dogs are pretty amazing!
We have two mini rescued American Eskimos, Cooper & Riley. Ther eare so many funny things they do. When you tell Riley to give you a kiss, she licks your face. She also has a rope from the dollar store that we call her “wobbie” and if you ask her “where is your wobbie” she will cock her head at the question and then run, find the rope, and come back to show you. Cooper loves to burrow in the covers on our bed. He will burrow to the bottom of the bed and sleep there, totally covered. He also goes berserk when you ask him if he wants to go for a car ride, and will try to put the window down himself if you don’t crack it for him.
Our dog, Henry, is a mix of Miniature Schnauzer, Maltese and Lhasa Apso. He gets these crazy bursts of energy where he runs around our yard as if he’s stuck inside a pinball machine. We love it! :)
My dog Maddie is definitely considered the baby in my house. I get up and go to work before my husband, Kev, and as soon as I get out of bed, she comes out from under the covers and takes my pillow. I think she’s in love with Kev and likes to sleep next to his face when I’m gone! She also likes to lick him until she falls asleep. She is so weird and I love her. I could go on about her quirks for days.
I have a 1 year old 8 lb cockapoo named Strider. Strider has a mini tennis ball, perfect for his little mouth, that he LOVES to play fetch with. We can play for hours on end in our tiny apartment. Lately, when we aren’t giving him enough attention, he’s taken to pushing his little tennis ball under the stove or couch and then barking incessantly until one of us gets it out and throws it for him. We’ve watched him carry the ball into the kitchen, drop it on the floor, and then use his little nose to push it just out of his reach under the stove. It drives me nuts!! But his barking drives me even more crazy so I always end up getting the ball out and throwing it for him.
He has plenty of other odd habits, but this is his most recent!

Charlotte: is so scheduled that at 9:15pm each night she sits by the door for the bedtime potty break.
Our dog Barley does wind sprints in the backyard and our cat Kozmo drools on us when he’s really happy. =)
Our dog, Eli, is a great dane/german shepherd mix. When he’s thirsty, he brings us his water bowl. Sometimes it’s not completely empty.
Our Westie, Ted, is pretty well trained (thank you, Cesar Millan), but his one weakness is the open dishwasher with dirty dishes inside. Must lick, must lick! Now, loading the dishwasher with him underfoot is like playing interference.
Our cat, Ziggy, has learned that when his mom and dad are both awake at the same time, it must be a weekend and that means he gets a wet food treat. I leave for work an hour before my husband, so on the rare mornings that “dad” gets up early to work out, Ziggy follows us both around, crying the whole time, until one of us gives in and treats him.
We have a 3-year old lab/border collie mix named Glacier. She looooooves her daddy almost more than anything in the world (balls come first, then dad). Whenever he leaves, she runs to our living room window, and stands with her front paws on the sill and watch him pull all the way out of the driveway and down the street. Then she runs to the front door where she stands and STARES DOWN the handle to wait for him. She’ll stay with her nose pressed against the door for about 20 min before she lay in front of the door and wait for him to return. Too cute!
We have a 3 year old ckcer spaniel named Cooper. He has lots of strange habits but there is one in particulair that blows my mind. He is sexist and I will tell you why I think so. Both my husband and I play fetch with him. But if we are bot in the room, no matter who throws the ball for him, he brings it back to my husband. And he greets my husband at the door with his ball in his mouth. But he does not do this for me.
I’ve got two dogs – a pomeranian named Chica and a mutt (we know he’s some minicher pinscher and at least 4 other breeds, we got him dna tested, did you even know you could do that? it was awesome) named Jack. We rescued both from the Humane Society, and I seem to have a nack for finding what I like to call “special” dogs – Chica has epilepsy, and Jack came with a pelvis that is fractured (permanently) in 3 places (the vet things he was hit by a car when he was a pup). So one weird thing is that they both take pills for their health issues.
You probably weren’t looking for such a sad and pathetic story, so how about something more fun on each of them.
We got Chica after we already had a cat at home, and she picked up a lot of traits from the cat, so at our last place, we had an endtable that was situated between the arm of the couch and a window. Chica learned to trot right off the end of the couch and onto the table were she would plop down and watch the world outside that window. Oh, and she likes to extend both her back legs out behind her when she lies down – looks like she went splat.
Jack – he is crazy (reminds me of the video you have a burger trying to get out of his halloween costume.) His funniest thing is probably, when we wants to come back in from the back yard, he’ll get so excited when you come to the glass door that he’ll hop on his paws, but his two front paws go up at the same time, so he looks like he’s bouncing. Its too cute.

Kona, our lovely 3 y.o. Pom-mix, is a chunky 15 pounds, and will *only* play with dogs that are smaller than she is. And, plastic bottles are her enemy. :)
Abigail Birchwood Meadows, our Shiba Inu/Lab puppy. The strange thing about her is that she has no idea that she is a dog. You can walk into a room and she will just be sitting, as if she was a person, there on a chair (which she isn’t supposed to be on). She will give you a look like “Oh, how are you,” and then just get back to staring off into space.
Our black and white Basenji, Domino, closes his eyes and waits about 30 seconds before he eats or drinks water. The vet says he is trying to focus his elderly eyes (he’s 13+) but we joke that he is praying before partaking.
Our lily (beagle) loves to sleep with us, which is fine but she prefers to sleep UNDER the covers. Yep, so if in the middle of the night she gets uncomfortable, she spins around under the covers–usually ripping them off of me–until she finds her comfy spot. We just got a new pet–Piper (she’s our 3 month old kitten) who luckily doesn’t care to sleep under the covers like her sissy! :)
These responses are hilarious to read through. I have a female golden retriever, Maddie, who…I’ll keep this PG…likes to “get friendly” with her sister, Maisey, who my sister owns. I guess family ties in the dog world has a different meaning.
We have two dogs-a golden/chow mix named Eli, and a chow/sheltie mix named Sally. Eli loves to take rides in the car, and can even roll the window down on his own!
We have a 6.5lb Alaskan Klee Kai named Rory (AKKs look just like Huskys – but they’re small!) She has all sorts of quirks – most of which make her sound like a cat! She loves to curl up in the windowsills at the front of the house and stare out into the front yard. It wouldn’t be so bad – but the previous owners didn’t leave any paint and her little paws are beating up the sills! She also runs laps in the living room when we aren’t looking – she start on the loveseat (the only piece shes allowed on), jumps to the ottoman, makes a flying leap across the room to the chair, jumps to the sofa, and then back to the ottoman. This isn’t a small room and these pieces aren’t close – it is some might leaps for a tiny dog!
We have 2 dogs. Our first adopted is Skyler. He is a lab pit bull mix. He loves to put 2 tennis balls in his mouth and kick a third ball around like he is playing soccer. Our second dog is Dia. She is a full pit bull and about a year old. She is our crazy hyper dog. She loves to hop on the bed, thrust herself in circles and throw all of the pillows off. Then when she realizes your watching her she stops and gives you a look like, “What, I’m not doing anything!” It’s hilarious.
Our dog Reagan is a three year old yorkie. He used to sit by his food bowl, full of food, until we told him he could eat. Since we moved to our new house, he doesn’t sit by the bowl, but he will creep into the kitchen and get a piece of food and take it into the other room to eat it. Once he realizes we think it is ok he is eating, he returns to his food bowl to finish his meal. I think my husband gave him some weird complex… at least it’s easy to blame on him. :)
SHELBY is our 1 year old Papillon. Shelby must think her big butterfly ears (have you ever seen a papillon!?) can make her fly, because she loves to leap from high places and she kinda floats for a second before miraculously landing on all fours.
Winnie Woo my year-old Airedale Terrier willingly catches balls or stuffed toys mid-air, but attempt to throw a milk-bone or marshmallow at her and she does a duck-and-cover or simply lets it hit her before chowing down.
We have a nutso boston terrier named Lola. She has many weird habits, but her favorites are licking peoples toes and sucking on her toys. :)
I have a Weimaraner named Norman who loves to ride in the car so much that he gets in when I am unloading groceries, then refuses to get out. I have to coax him with treats, or just leave the door open until he gives up…
As of next week I will have Emmett, a two year old Chihuahua who thinks of himself as a parrot. If you sit on the couch he jumps up on the back and then sits on your shoulder – he also does figure eights around table legs when he’s excited.
cali is our 3.7 lb chihuahua and we just adopted a kitty that is 5 months old and 10lbs. they like to play fight. also cali paws at the cover to get underneath constantly.
First of all, your Burger is too cute! We have a shorkie (shi tsu – yorkie mix) named Rafael.. we call him Rafa. He has so many kwirks it is hard to think of the most fascinating one right off hand. He sorta has a little bit of cat tendencies in him… he’ll rub his body against your legs and turn around and do it again… like a cat. Weird! He also has a foot fetish. My grandmother said that… it sounded really weird coming from my grandmother. Haha! Great giveaway! Lord knows we need a little first aid help with our little devil – oops, I mean angel – around! ;)
We’ve got a dorgi (Dachshund-Corgi) named Toby. You’d never guess by looking at those little legs, but he’s got quite a jump. We used to baby-gate him in the kitchen whenever we left the house but he’d jump over it. Then we learned just how high our 4 legged friend could jump when we caught him jumping from the floor to the top of our pub style kitchen table – without jumping on the chair first! Geesh. Sometimes his ‘talent’ is annoying (table jumping), but other times its just plain adorable!
Our 8 year old cat, Howard, loves to plop right in the middle of the Sunday newspaper while we’re reading it and take a nap!
Roxy and Sandy are our golden retreivers. Roxy sprints 5 laps around the perimeter of our backyard every morning, and Sandy has the funniest excited bark/growl that sounds like she’s talking. We need the kit because they have the unfortunate habit of biting each other occasionally!
We just got a chocolate lab, Payton, who likes to run circles around his food bowl while he inhales his food.
Hello Young People:
Love little Burger…Lexi’s boyfriend. We are so proud of our beautiful boxer that we rescued in February. She is STILL a puppy. She is definately a girly dog. She loves jewelry, shoes, scarves…and she likes to chew up my bras. I HAD a nice black one from Intimacy here in Atlanta$$$$$… she chewed the underwire out of it in no time flat!

Our Rottweiler’s name is Wally, and he likes to jump at and eat bugs bugs. During the summer he would run around the park at dusk, leaping and gulping down the little creatures. While most people see a rottweiler and are intimidated, we find him to be absolutely adorable.
