Steal Of The Week: Walking The Line
Many of you have requested that we feature a find of the week, and it just so happens that our first steal is something that we snatched up for our third bedroom. An adorable and cozy jute rug from the impressive clearance section at The Company Store. The charming stripes and wallet-friendly price tag (50%!) of the Newport Stripe Jute Rug made it a must have, and it looks right at home in our quaint little third bedroom (especially since the jute is great with the even-more-textured water hyacinth ottoman).
Our sweet new 4×6 foot rug was just $43. Plus the natural fibers are 100% green (as opposed to many other area rugs with harsh chemicals, glues and dyes) so we never have to worry about off-gassing in the room that will one day be the nursery. Score. And because we love a good detail shot, here’s a close up for all the rug lovers out there:
While we’re at it we thought we’d mention that The Company Store is a pretty amazing resource for accessories and accents in general. I used to think they were kind of expensive but boy was I wrong (and missing out as a result of my wrong-ness).
So there you have our first steal of the week. Of course all of our steals won’t necessarily be something that we’ve brought into our own home… but they’ll always be fresh, fab and affordable items that are sure to swankify any space. Love the rug…I’ll have to check out the Company Store again. A little sad story about the ottoman in the picture. After you posted a picture of yours, I went to Michael’s and bought one. Brought it home, loved it. That weekend went to get another (to use as a coffee table together like your other posting today). They had just stopped carrying them! Called all local stores (seasonal item).So now I have one lonely little ottoman looking out of place. If any of your other Richmond readers have one they don’t want, I’ll buy it from them! As they say, “you snooze, you lose”!

Thanks for the steal! My husband and I just bought our house and I’m trying to find rugs to help protect our gorgeous hardwoods in the bedrooms. Sherry, I see that your rug there is 3×5? That seems so small to me! Granted, our guest bedroom is big, but… HELP! If you had a HUGE guest bedroom with only a full sized bed, what size rug would you get to “anchor” it? In our master, we have two small rugs on either side (very his-and-hers), but I want a solid rug in the guest room. I just want something to ground the bed and allow my guests to put their feet on rug, not cold floor when they get in/out of bed. Any suggestions?
Anytime, Blair. And oops, we just realized our typo – the rug is actually 4×6 (we’ve must’ve been daydreaming about another rug that was 3×5 and got mixed up).
As for your question, we used a 6×9 rug to anchor our queen-sized bed (which allows for enough overhang on both sides and at the foot of the bed). For the full-sized bed in your guest room, you’d probably be safe with a standard 5×8 rug. But when it doubt, go bigger because it’s better to err on the side of more overhang than less. Hope that helps!

Great tip on The Company Store! I have 2 down comfortors from said place that I use on my bed. One of them is 6 years old, the other is 3. BOTH are still in great condition. Recommendation: buy a light color that will not fade. My sky blue comforter has resisted many machine washes, been exposed to lots of direct sunlight and has not faded.
Thanks for the great tip! I’m thinking about getting this for my bedroom. Is it very soft for bare feeties?
