Reader Redesign: It’s A Wash
When we saw Kelly’s newly spiffed laundry room, we just had to share her mini-makeover with you guys. Here’s her letter:
Just wanted to drop you an email to say THANKS for a great design idea that has totally changed my laundry room. We have a really small laundry room, with some open shelving that looked pretty bad and disorganized. I saw your idea to add roman shades to the space over the washer and dryer, and decided to try it. I LOVE LOVE LOVE the results. I also added a cute piece of vinyl wall art (10 bucks on Etsy!) and the room looks brand new. Thanks so much for your awesome ideas! – Kelly
Here’s Kelly laundry room before:

And her adorable new laundry room with some concealed shelving thanks to a few off-the-shelf bamboo blinds:
And how cute is that wall decal from Etsy? Kelly has proven once again that it’s really the little things that make even a space designed for chores look charming and inviting.

Thanks so much for sending your pics our way Kelly! And if anyone else out there has a fresh and fabulous home makeover to share- be sure to send it over on the double! It’s an addiction, people. Feed our habit!

Love that saying on the wall…very cute!
ok, as a complete non-handy person, I’ve been wanting to hang those shades in my laundry room, but how do you hang two across with nothing to afix it to in the middle? Pardon my ignorance, but I really want to know!
Hey Bethany,
Good question – it is a little confusing without the benefit of looking at the hardware provided when you buy those blinds. They come with a bracket that allows you to attach them to either the back wall or, in this case, the ceiling. That way you don’t need something in the middle to affix them.
Hope that helps and glad you asked!

i am really digging the blinds. very tempted to install one over my washer and dryer even though i am currently renting.
stuff like this make me want to rip out the beautiful cabinets in my laundry room so i can install bamboo shades like that. and plaster up the window so i have wall space for cute vinyl letters.
hubby barely let me hang my clothesline in our laundry room, so i doubt i’m doing any remodeling any time soon.
I really like the blinds. But I hate when pics are angled like that so I can’t see the full picture!! Little things like that bug the crap out of me. My question is: What do you do on the side of the shelves?? Would you need to carry the blinds all across the top of the room? Otherwise it seems like you would see the sides of the shelves?
Yup, you’d need to carry them across the whole room or nook (just like we did in our laundry area as well) so you don’t see the sides of the blinds. Or you could hang a piece of wood to create a “side” to obscure the view of the blinds from the side and also conceal everything behind it as if it was a cabinet with a blind for a door. Heck you could even use a third blind instead of a piece of wood to make the side if you wanted. Hope it helps!

I think if she hung a frame around that saying it would pop more!! Just a thought… :)
That’s a really fun idea! Maybe she’ll add one down the line.
