Guys, I'm stalking your blog and have caught up to this point, but just had to comment on this because of how my hubs and I met! I was a bridesmaid in my cousin's wedding in Missouri (I'm a lil 'ol Texas gal) and he was the best man in said wedding, his best friend was the groom. We hit it off beautifully and talked the entire weekend, spent every second together at the reception, and were married in Vegas a mere 6 months later! So he got to become family with his best friend, and let me tell ya, holidays are a blast!!! :)

We just got word today that our offer was accepted for our first home, and the inspiration I'm pulling from your website is tremendous! Keep up the fun fantastic work you two, can't wait to read (stalk) the rest of your blog.

Our favorite creative wedding gift that we received was from my cousins. They weren't able to make it to the nups but they sent a big box with a note saying their gift was "food for the mind, body, and soul." Inside was a dictionary, a cook book, and a Bible. Cute!

Great ideas! Here are my two favorite wedding gifts that always get rave reviews:

1) I order a stamp roll holder from a mail order catalog and have it personalized with the couples' initials.Then I throw in a roll of stamps for them to use on their thank you notes. About $60 including stamps.

2) When I'm broke, I opt for a cute basket from a discount store. I fill it with a 20 box of microwave popcorn, nuts, or other snack, a cuddly little blanket, bottle of vino, and a movie with a wedding or marriage theme. Then I print up "instructions" on a cute little card A. Pop popcorn B. Pop in movie C. Pop on blanket - mix all with a dose of cuddling! About $25-$30 if I already have the bottle of wine on hand.

My favorite gift from our wedding was a treasure chest our two closest friends HAND MADE! It even had a fancy "S" for my new last name. We have an Old World/Pirate themed house and it went perfect with the decor. They filled the chest with amazing various gold wrapped candies. They created an antique looking scroll with a heartfelt message for us and rolled it up and slipped it inside. It was AWESOME!

I have given a 'functional-but-not-fun-to-buy' gift for a couple who were renovating a home they just bought. I filled a laundry basket with cleaning supplies and different 'protectant' type things and wrapped a ribbon and bow on it. I know those things really add up escecially when you are constantly cleaning all the time!

My mother in law has the BEST gift Idea... She goes to the Bride's house on the morning of the wedding & snaps her leaving the house... getting into the bridal car etc. Then she goes to the church & takes pics of the guys & then photographs the wedding... then, whilst everyone else is at the cocktail hour, Jill runs off to a digi-print place & has her pics printed off, she pops them into an album she's bought, wraps it up & gives it to the Bride & Groom at the reception telling them it has to be opened that night! Everyone LOVES them - it's such a thrifty, thoughtful gift.

I LOVE those vintage maps!

We just married in April and our favorite gifts (besides all the wonderful registry gifts that we really needed) have included:

- a gift certificate to see a show at the Kennedy Center here in DC;
- a small bowl to hold our rings during the wedding ceremony engraved with the words "to have & to hold" (check it out here: http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=9295523) and a bigger bowl engraved with song lyrics that we had included on our wedding programs (http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=11267537);
- a cloth bag full of wood-carved German Christmas ornaments that came with a printed sheet that listed all the ornaments and the tradition/meaning behind them (my husband lived and studied in Germany for a year);
- a beachy wooden angel by Jim Shore;
- a flowered tool set (from my Grandmom) that came with a box cutter, which came in handy to open all the registry gifts that were shipped to us;
- and a vintage print of Italy found in a thrift shop (we traveled to Sicily for our honeymoon).

For wedding gifts that I've given, I made a similar honeymoon gift bag and put everything in a cute beachy straw bag for the bride (they were going on a road trip to Florida). I also recently gave a friend a cute patterned storage box in her wedding colors filled with things for her new kitchen like a vintage pie dish, dish towels, and other items, and included a set of pear candles with a note saying 'congrats to the perfect pair.'

Back when we were quite often short on cash (hey...some things never change!) I would always take my camera to the wedding and shoot a lot of candid shots of the wedding party, the bride & groom, the guests, the food - everything about the day that I could see. After the wedding, I would have the photos printed and give them, along with a cd that also contained the photos, to the couple. They are always so appreciative, especially since I usually capture moments they missed out on while doing other wedding-y things. One friend had a professional shoot her wedding, who then lost all of the photos. I'm so glad I had my camera that day!
