Paint Treatments Go Posh
Sometimes murals or paint treatments can skew crafty/tacky, but lately we’ve been noticing lots of fresh and crisp painted details that give a room some definite va-va-voom. For example, this fabulous shot of the Luxe Hotel designed by Mary McDonald that we spotted here:

And this Moroccan inspired painted border that we saw here, which takes a super white room to a whole new level.

This lattice-looking paint treatment that we spotted here is also one that we’ve been admiring. It looks super intricate but we can imagine that using masking tape to create the outline would be the hard part- then all it takes is a coat of paint and some serious tape peeling while it’s still wet (that’s a great tip to keep taped off lines crisp, always peel ‘em before the paint dries).

And last but certainly not least, we really liked this rich emerald green painted trim seen here. It’s like a modern take on the accent wall. The graphic pattern that it highlights (thanks to those gorgeous windows and doors) really makes it a focal wall and plays up such a breathtaking architectural accent:

What do you guys think? Are wall treatments (from subtle semi-gloss stripes to nursery room murals) your cup of tea? Have you noticed this seemlingly new trend too? Do tell. And of course, feel free to send us some pictures of any and all paint treatments you’ve done in your own home (or have collected in your inspiration folder).

I want to attempt a Moroccan or lattice treatment on a wall in my dining room after finding out the wallpaper I love from Schumacher (Imperial Trellis) is just way too expensive for my husband to deal with.
I haven’t found any stencils that I like enough and you’re right – taping is for the birds!
I’m considering designing one of my own and having it printed on plastic to cut and stencil myself. Unless of course you guys have a better idea . . .
that lattice! looks like a pain but it sure is pretty.
and that house with the Moroccan-ish border is here in Birmingham … you would love her storefront — very white and clean. I’ll try to remember to snap a photo next time I’m in the area.
thanks for the link :)
Thanks to this post and the previous comment I now know that my wife and I both read the same blog at work. Great pictures. Kudos to those that took the plunge on that lattice wall.
I love the bottom one… I just don’t know that I could pull them off myself. Maybe if someone else painted them for me?
That lattice wall is so pretty–I love it! I’ve seen argyle patterned walls too, and I really like that. I’m a fan of most paint treatments. I did stripes of varying widths in my powder room using leftover paint from our living room and dining room, and I love how it turned out: http://tinyurl.com/653mjq It’s definitely a fun and inexpensive way to add some character to a space!
20 points to the first person to try one of these! I’m not sure what the 20 points go towards yet, but who can complain about earning points! :)
KK, I’d say your plastic suggestion is probably the safest bet. That’s what Sunny Goode uses and I’m sure it’s for good reason. Anything less durable probably wouldn’t stand up to multiple layers of paint. But we’re open to suggestions if anyone’s got ‘em.
Wes and Jennifer, thanks again for the inspiration. Glad we provide a place for you two to virtually hang out together during the workday.
G&D, love your bathroom! What a sophisticated treatment and to think you did that with leftover paint. Hmmm… you’ve got me thinking now…
Thanks for your thoughts, everyone.

I LOVE your blog–I’ve just found it recently and am going through old archives b/c the inspiration is so motivating. (we’ve got a 5 y/o condo that was basically a white blank slate when we moved in five years ago, then jobs had us living in two cities, and my attempts to decorate, mean that as of this summer we’re pouring an apartment back into the condo and the purging, sorting, organizing, and then finally attempting to create ONE cohesive happy space begins–I can’t wait)
Also, LOVE the 3rd picture–with the painted window frames. I’ve never been a fan of accent walls–they always seem a bit too disjointed to me–but perhaps I just haven’t seen them expertly handled, but the window frame painting makes it seem much more subtle and integrated into the whole scheme of the room.
