Hi, I've been reading your blog from the very beginning and just got to this post!

I totes have a bed in the middle of the room. Luckily I have a fairly large room so I just put my furniture where I would've if the bed been against the wall and still had room to move. It's different, but I don't know anyone who ever thought it was interesting or cool idea. I didn't do it on purpose either. The walls of my room were being re-done and painted, and my lazy ass never pushed it back to where it was.

Wow. Who knew this would be such a polarizing topic? Thanks so much for weighing in and explaining your point of view. Stick around for a lot more burning questions (what can we say, we're hopelessly curious individuals).

I saw an instance of a floating bed that worked just like the one MC described, but the headboard was pretty tall so it still felt like the bed was against at least part of a wall. I wouldn't be comfortable with a floating bed for the same reason Laur gave: fear of someone sneaking up on me would mean no sleep in the bed.

I think it works in lofts, studios, or very large bedrooms. Do y'all think it's weird to have a full-sized bed as a daybed? I'd like to find a bed similar to the one you pictured in a twin to use as a daybed in our guest room. Unfortunately, it's difficult to find a bed like that in twin that will accomodate a trundle that pops up. Any ideas?

In general, I'm not really a fan of floating a bed, unless its a sofa-style day bed. It's not that I don't think it "works," it's more that it doesn't mesh with my personal sense of style. I did see someone do a floating bed I really loved where the headboard was anchored by a dresser, and floating the bed created a dressing area, but generally, it's just not something that would work for me.

I think if the room is large enough... it can look great - but I would need to have some small nightstands there as well.

I think it works, but only because this particular bed is a very solid bed. I wouldn't like it with an open ironwork bed, for example. However, who has a bedroom large enough to do it?

While I'm generally a furniture floater, I don't think I could get used to a bed floating in the middle of the room. I like that a bed against the wall feels grounded, comfortable and safe.
