Hey ladies,
So glad you're loving the color scheme everyone... and Emily, we're so happy that at first glance you LOVE IT! And Maggie, thanks so much for the 75% off tip about the runner. I'm sure readers everywhere are hunting down their very own at this very moment. Such a deal.
MaryB, we totally get the baby-proofing point, so let's get creative. How about a wide, light colored (white, pale blue, tan) wooden or even plastic bowl full of the aforementioned balls of twine? Or one of those round white acrylic trays with a few decorative objects (some books? a stack of old postcards or pictures?). That seems a bit less permanent than painting a circle, and since we like to switch around our arrangements so much we always take the semi-permanent route when we can. We'd love to see pics of your coffee table reinvention though, so feel free to share your little mini makeover with us!
xoxo,
Sherry

If their 19 month old is like *mine* were when they were that age, neither a glass top nor a mirror are going to work on a coffee table. Wait -- mine is 17 now, and I wouldn't dare do that even today!

I do "get" what you're saying about lightening the piece up, though, with a "hole" in the center. What do you think about painting the center portion a lighter color? Is that just a way to ruin an otherwise good table, or is it a good Plan B if you can't literally lighten it with an opening?

Just curious, since my solid-wood coffee table might benefit from something like that, if it might work....

I just bought that runner at Target for $3 bucks. It's 75% off right now, and they won't restock it after that... run to Target! :)

I love the color of Emily's living room, and think you really nailed it with the blue for the dining room. Blue tones look great with wood floors. And OMG that Pottery Barn chair! I'm afraid to go on the site and see the sale price because I already feel like I need to have it!

If only it WAS an Ethan Allen chair...it's an oldy inherited from a grandmother and it's really seen better days, hence the red slicover.
I am totally underwater at work so I'm looking forward to getting some time this weekend to really look at the moodboard and your suggestions, but at first glance I LOVE IT!

LOVE the color scheme. The round coffee table is also available at Target. http://www.target.com/Genoa-Coffee-Table/dp/B000MQS7L6/qid=1216402303/ref=br_1_1/602-1299267-9432669?ie=UTF8&node=3527871&frombrowse=1&rh=&page=1

Hey Rauths,
A slipcover is definitely a great way to repurpose the chair for another room in Emily's house. A nice crisp white or sand colored cover always looks fab. Great idea! As for the legs, she may be able to switch them out and could even stain them or paint them to work with the decor in the chair's new space.
Sherry

that redish chair has some good bones...i think it may even be the same one that i have a pair of (and am recovering)...she should consider recovering it, even if she recovers it in a fabulous fabric for her bedroom. she could always change up the legs to something more modern if it is indeed the ethan allen chair.
