As long as there's no earthly way the fire could jump up and catch the tree on fire- it's not a problem at all if some leaves or buds drop from the tree and make their way into the firepit from time to time. There is a huge copper one shown in the slideshow of new summer stuff on the ikea website, but of course it isn't available anwhere on their website.
