Young House Love: The Sequel
Every good movie has a sequel (Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit, anyone?) so it’s about time we debuted the follow-up to last fall’s partial-house tour. Sherry’s back in her starring role as “tour guide” and I’m directing again, but the set is much improved this time around. Not only do we have a completed kitchen to share, but this time we take you through the bedrooms, the other bathroom, and even let you a peek inside our fridge. As you’ll see, a lot can change in five months.
So grab some popcorn, silence your cell phones and enjoy. (Also, please excuse Sherry’s blurry face in the very beginning. The censored look wasn’t intentional.)

That was so entertaining! Your house really looks like the finished product on one of those HGTV shows! I don’t know how you have everything so clean and organized! And the host of our tour? Thanks for devoting seven minutes of your lives to watching our humble house tour. Sorry about the sad production quality and bad lighting. If only we had a camera crew at our beck and call. Anyway, so glad you guys enjoyed sneaking a peek.
Stay tuned for other videos (a basement, garage, and outdoor tour of our patio, fire pit and more…) and probably another house tour in a few months because things change so regularly around here. We’ve already rearranged the living room and the third bedroom since the taping. It’s a sickness, people.
And of course we have a full master bathroom renovation on the agenda…

One thing I have to throw in: I actually love the bathroom as-is. Of course it might not look as nice close up as it does on the video, but I would honestly buy a house just for a bathroom like that. I love the basketweave!

I know what you mean! I was lamenting to John that if the bathroom really looked as good as it looked on the video I wouldn’t dream of touching it! The truth is that there’s a 2 inch gap between the tile and the tub and the whites of the basketweave tiles are more of an old dingy yellow from age. There are cracks and holes in the floor and the wall tiles, so sadly it can’t be saved (I even looked into reglazing but it wouldn’t work longterm).
But that’s not to say that we won’t replace the old yellowed, cracked tile with exactly the same vintage look. The basketweave and white wall tiles are definitely something we’d love to stay really close to. It’s so true to the period of our house. So don’t worry that we’ll be bringing in anything too new or trendy!

I stumbled upon your blog and I LOVE your house tour! What a cute idea, AND your home is absolutely tour-worthy. I will def watch this again and again to get ideas. I did cringe when you said you were taking out your antique bath tile – I think it has so much character! But whatever you decide to do, it will look great!

Thanks! Did you have an electrician “hard wire” it? I bought one just like it at CB2 this summer and was told it couldn’t be converted and that it had to be plugged in.

Hi Joi,
John here. We did have an electrician hard wire the CB2 lamp into the ceiling, so it can be done! He installed it the exact same way we hung the West Elm capiz lamp in the master bedroom ourselves. Just cut the plug off the end of the cord and you’ll expose two wires, which can be hardwired directly to the wires in your junction box.
You can probably do it yourself (if you’re comfortable around wires and electricity). If not, any electrician should know what to do with it.

Sherry (love your name by the way…hee hee)…you are adorable, and so is your home!! I love how you guys have EVERYTHING you need in your space, a den, a large garden, a game room/sun room, a desk/office, a wrapping/craft station, letter writing station, a porch, and a fab kitchen. You guys definately found a treasure in your ‘old house’ and are making it your dream home. You’re letting the world know that you don’t have to have a mansion to get every room you want in one house, and be organized at the same time!!
In your video you say ‘food shopping’!! Let me guess, at the Food Store!!! I had a roommate from New Jersey and she always said food shopping and food store…. so funny. Also, your shirt looks like it’s from the limited, if so, I have one just like it!!
