America’s Next Top Model Home

A literal parade of homes couldn’t have been more fun than the actual Parade of Homes that Sherry and I checked out today. Each fall, the Home Building Association of Richmond puts together a tour of model homes that shows off the latest in new construction and home trends. Now in its 56th year, the Parade is 158 homes strong proving – if nothing else – Richmond has a whole lotta new construction. And boy is it spread out!

Over about 5 hours, we logged plenty of miles and saw about 12 different furnished model homes. A few were townhomes and duplexes, but most were insane $1-million-plus mini-mansions. One was over 8,000 square feet! That’s 5 times the size of our house. Since the jumbo sizes were definitely not our style, we focused on the interiors for ideas instead. You’ll soon see us jump on the warm neutral paint color bandwagon (giving up our pale green living room in favor of a more crisp tan wall color) but we’ll let the tacky theme room train go on without us (I’ve never seen so many pink little girl rooms and weird jungle murals).

In the end, we just fell more in love with our current house, which makes all the dusty renovation projects we’re juggling seem even more worthwhile.

But if we ever need another 6,500 square feet (and a jungle mural or two), we now know where to look.

We love hearing from ya. We try to keep it light & fun (it's only decorating), so we'll nix comments that are snarky/spammy (our moms are reading).

If you don't see your comment it's because they're manually approved (it should pop up soon-ish). Occasionally our spam filter eats one. Boo spam filter.
